You can hear the influence of West Coast music. His nephew Snoop and Dr. Dre used these same types of riffs/chords
I know Bootsy Collins, but never heard this song. Great tune, very innovative, but that's Bootsy. You should check out his work with Buckethead in a group called Praxis. Also, point of note, he made an appearance with Deee-Lite on their hit Groove is in the Heart. You can't miss him; he has a very distinct singing voice.
