@@RossParos OK sure. I was thinking more along the lines of manufacturer price reduction like we've seen with M3 and MY lately. But $7.5K is a good chunk of change! For most of us.
To qualify you realize the price would have to be reduced to $ 80,000.-$ 7,500=$ 72,500
I cancelled a year ago and have had no regrets. I don't NEED a truck, and my WANT budget is well below $100K.
You made the right decision and I would have done the same. Not worth spending 20k to get it now.

The right decision is what works for YOUR family/household needs. Nothing else matters. I support you, it’s smart to take a step back, look at the landscape and make smart decisions. You can always get one in the future. I think it is very wise to look at the market and see what is potentially/actually coming far pricing. But either! Good video. Don’t worry about the decision. Stand by it, and move forward.

How many vehicles do you need you have a 3 and y, let me ask you a question what would it cost you to insure the truck I'm sure you checked this out?

I'm glad we have an influencer that finally has the balls to say this out loud. I could have got my Cybertruck in December. I think the inflation plus the $20,000 foundation adder just puts it out of reach for normal people that were day one reservation holders.
Rivian honored their early reservation holders, then raised the price. Tesla just told us all too bad, we need the cash…
Eventually...they tried raising the fee and had huge backlash and gave in.
No instrument cluster, 6 seater or spare tire is a deal breaker for me, its a truck it should of at least come with a hidden spare tire.
I did not use a spare tire in 40 years of driving. About 1 million kilometers in total all around Europe. I had a flat once in 1987. 10 min. from the next tire shop it was easier to walk there and give them the keys.
I drive Teslas since 2019 and i am happy not having instruments and other distracting thingies between me and the road.
@@wolfgangpreier9160If you drove 40 years and never needed a spare, you aren't a truck customer anyway. Driving off road, or on construction sites, or other rough places trucks go, is guaranteed to puncture tires.

We have no "off road" here in the middle of Europe. I would have to travel to Ukraine or Moldavia for the next off road adventure.
I would need a off road vehicle like a Tatra or a Unimog for "off roading". Or maybe a Iveco Daily 4x4.
I have been "off road" many times decads ago when it was still allowed.
In Italy, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Tchech Republic, Poland, Greece, Austria.
Also in Yugoslavia - today known under different names like Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and other insignificant states.
I never had to change a tire. I had a flat once, 10 minutes from the tire shop per pedes. It was easier and cheaper to walk there and give them the keys.
Maybe your "off roads" are spiked with nails? IDK.
Absolutely the correct decision. My list is the same...and I realized that in 2020 that to pay that much for a truck, that I'd never use as a truck, was not smart for us.
Raj, this one of your best vids. CT pricing right now is a rip-off for buyers who must have it now. Foundation Series features are a total waste of money for most people. You know the price will come down when the backlog diminishes. Furthermore, you (and I) don’t need a CT. Raj, very smart decision !
i had the same thigh happen. I had fomo and went through with the extra 1000. After 3 days of thinking about the monthly payment and cancelled online and I'm a grand.
i decided to get a used Y recently for basically everything you said here. 2021 used Y 40k miles, fsd included, $34,100. My CT reservation wont be for a while anyway. perhaps by the time i could take delivery for the CT, it will be better conditions based on how deep in the reservation list i am.
In addition the disappointment over going from 6 seater to 5, it’s just not as dog-friendly as the Y I bought last March. We also sold our camper as we got impatient with all the delays. Add the price and no FSD transfer and it’s a no-go for me too. For now.
Get that sponsorship deal and make a video saying “How I bought this Cybertruck for $30,000” and as the video makes money, consider that as money saved.

Totally agree. 1. Way too expensive now 2. No 6 seats 3. No pass thru rear seat for camp mode 4. Feature creep due to Elon hubris? i.e. Hummer 4wd; great 48v system; steer by wire
It sure is hard but financially a wise decision. My 2022 MX Plaid tanked. I now will have to pay up if I want to get out of this car. And getting into a Cybertruck would get me right back in that same boat.
Saving money is a great idea. I just bought a used 2020 Chevy Bolt EV for $10,000. (Included the $4,000 federal EV rebate.) You don't have to buy an "expensive" EV!!!

You made the right call. I'm personally looking forward to the Rivian R2. I've seen the Cyber Truck in River Islands and the R1s... Rivian has done a great job of building an adventure brand by and for people who will use it as a daily and for weekend get aways. The CT seems to be more hype than truck, honestly think CT is the boaty mcboatface of Tesla's line up, Elon decided to bet on doing it for the lulz. It's fast but if that's all someone wants then there's plaid, ludicrous 3, & Roadster someday.

I’m in the same boat. Didn’t want to watch this, but it’s a good review. Super difficult financial discipline. So for now… I’ll wait, dream some more, and see what happens in the next 6 months. Delaying for now.
Bait and switch to get people to deposit $100 for a limited range vehicle that is more than double the original cost in a high interest market.
The CT is a vanity item. It consumes twice the power as a model 3. I'm looking for an E-Transit style van body, which would be far more useful to more trades people. I'd also be interested in an all electric 20 foot Isuzu style box truck with 160 SF solar panels on the roof. Or a Teslabago. But not an overpriced pickup. And not an overpriced pickup that consumes twice the power as a Model 3 after Tesla raised SC fees 300% since 2018.

Hi Raj! Your 3 still looks great. It looks like you have tons of mods. I particularly like that white dash with the black seats! I was able to configure my Foundation Series last week and I'm excited to get it. I really need the whole home back up here on Whidbey Island where we lose power when a mouse farts. I'm justifying the price based on the portibility of the power back up. If I was your age, in your shoes, I'd have done the same thing as you. $50K is NOT $100K no matter how you slice it. A little patience will serve you well here. In 2 years it will be Cybertrucks galore and you'll settle into a much better deal. I'll stop by and let you drive it next time I'm in Palo Alto !

I’m going to get mine in about a year. This should be after the Foundation Series are done and I should be able to get a dual motor for about 80k. I think that’s a good value.
This is when you qualify for the $ 7,500 credit, you must wait.

You went against the trend for the right decision. Congrat! If you do not need a truck, don't buy a truck! I know a lot of people will hate me for that comment, but that craze for bigger is better will lead us to our doom... A bigger vehicle (electric or not): use more resources to build, use more resources to run, take more space (so more parking) and is more dangerous (worst visibility, more mass, ...).
So again, congratulation for not buying it!

Sounds like this decision makes perfect sense in your situation. One aspect that at least partly justifies the price increase (other than inflation) is the extra features they included, especially rear wheel steering and steer by wire with variable steering ratio at different speeds, which makes this big truck much more nimble.

Absolutely right to be cognizant of your needs and financial means. Most of us grapple with that. My cybertruck reservation is maybe 5 years away. It will have improved a lot by then.
I’ll wait for a 400 mile minimum range without compromising the truck bed…will keep my Y Performance until then…

Good decision for you and your family. I don't see prices going down anytime soon with the high demand. Also $20k foundation series includes FSD and many accessories valued about $15k, so it's really not that bad.
For us early reservation placers, FSD was locked in at $7,500
@@jesseschmigiel1223 Fair point, I was one of them that order on day one for a Tri motor with FSD. Somehow had a feeling that Tesla would find a way out of it.

For me, I feel like this is a huge impulse buy. In a year when the prices are lower will I even want it then? It's not a pratical purchase. This is a money waster. It just depends on if you have the money to waste.

I could have configured just before New Year's Day. I'm in the same boat. Granted I had an accident last year that doubled my insurance rate, and totaled out what would been a spare 2018 Model 3 LR DM. My 6 month old 2023 Model Y AWD is about 36k in trade in. I took a 20k hit on buying that vehicle. Irony is the value I got in my 2018 Model 3 was about the same as the trade in value today which I still owe more than that.
I have a couple options, but paying down the Y and trading in would likely need to be done. I had set aside some for the Cybertruck for down payment but hadn't planned for such a dramatic hit to trade in cost. I thought maybe 5-8k if early, maybe 12k off by end of year ... nope. So I have other options to dig into long term funds but ... I rather just hold until the AWD and tax credit (hopefully) comes. By then I will decide how much I want to put down, need to finish paying down to balance a trade.
Yea sucks. In reality I shouldn't bother and wait for another year or more. Maybe just keep the Y some how after all.
If your insurance doubled how much would it cost you to insure CT, did you ask?
Thanks for being transparent! I actually like this video, it gives an adult and reasonable perspective about how to spend money, thus setting a great example for the younger generation to not put themselves in a bad financial situation whenever something shiny shows up. I am a nobody when it comes to give financial advice, but a good rule of thumb is to not go over half of the household income when purchasing a car. This is to be able to build wealth, making money work for you against inflation and depreciating assets. Stay smart people, build wealth, pay of debt, invest, and you will get there one day!
My family has three Model Y's. I am cancelling my cybertruck preorder. I wanted a $70k cybertruck with 500 mile range and I'm tired of waiting it has been 4 years now. I will take that $100 and buy myself something useful instead of vaporware. Like you said I didn't really need a truck anyways.

I’ve been watching for years and have always appreciated the content. This is a great video, especially coming from someone that’s a really big fan of Teslas. I completely agree with you too. It’s a really expensive vehicle and I would have come to the same conclusion. Unfortunately/fortunately not everyone else is as financially sound with their decisions. Personally it’s great to be able to walk away from a hard decision and I’m assuming Tesla will still sell plenty to people that are more impulsive or live beyond their means. I don’t envy them.

I believe you have made the right decision. I lost a ton of cash overnight when Tesla dropped the price of the model 3 Performance in The Netherlands.

I'm almost in the same predicament. I have a 2023 model 3 for trade-in of a cybertruck but they are only offering $25k.
Oh man that’s what i thought I’d get for my 2018 one maybe i need to reset my trade in expectations. Either way yeah still gotta come up with $75k and that’s crazy
Oh my god. 😮I am not the only with the same exact reasons. I cannot agree more on all of them. This is exactly the reason I rather have the Rivian R1S ( for the need to have 6 seats) rather than Cybertruck ( really should have had 6 seats 😢)

I cancelled my Cybertruck and got a Rivian R1S. I still like the Cybertruck, but the R1S suits my needs. Also got it for much cheaper that the Cybertruck. Who knows, maybe if they come out with "CyberSUV", I'll be all over that!
Nice! But that FSD is EPIC. Granted it's TbD and BS. But long term, truck drives me ... eventually.

120K is about half my house. Not happening. 60K is my limit. I wait for the RWD with the big battery. Actually i have to wait for Tesla to import it to Europe anyway.
What was it? One motor $40,000, Two motor $50,000, Three motor $80,000. Now: the one motor is not coming out 'til the end of time. The two motor will be $69,000? And the three motor is more than $100,000. I realize that there is a little inflation to be figured in, but my two motor model at $50,000, turned into a $70,000 vehicle, which if I figure right, is a ~40% jack in price. I TOO WILL BE PRICED OUT OF THE MARKET.

CZcams does not pay very well anymore. Plus there are already hundreds of Cybertruck videos. Buying a Cybertruck hoping that CZcams pays for itis not a wise decision.
The price increased $20k and $30k while the specs dropped, really disappointed it doesn't have the 500+ mile range. It's not the vehicle I put my reservation in for either, I'm priced out too. The tax would be ridiculous with the new price points, not to mention the DMV fees and insurance cost. But I'll keep my reservation in place for as long as I can. Why would you sit on the hood of your car? It's aluminum and dents easily. But never buy or don't buy a vehicle based on resale because they aren't investments. Buy it if you think the price works for you and just enjoy it. Otherwise just lease it. But look, you are not being financially responsible, you just can't afford the new price point. Nothing wrong in admitting that, I'm in the same situation. Even if I could get a loan for it, would I want a mortgage payment for a vehicle? Of course not!
Elon lied to us 4 years ago. He knew they couldn't sell the Cybertruck with those specs at those price points. He did it to get millions of dollars in reservations that they then held interest free for 4 years, making interest on our money for Tesla. Just like he's done with FSD. I used to be a huge Elon fan but the empty promises are getting old. I'm still a Tesla fan, just not a fanboy.

Yep, you need the right tool for the job, if the Cybertuck isn't the right tool for the jobs you have, then don't buy it, and get something more affordable and suitable.

Trucks hold values better than any car, so I don’t believe you’ll be taking the kind of hit you think you’ll be taking. If you bought it now; and sold it after a year you’d still be winning. They won’t produce more than 50,000 and who know when your chance comes around again

Totally legit decision. Me, not so much. Just confirmed order for AWD Foundation. Don't want the wheels/tires. So paying 5K for the BS Limited series. BUT...April delivery. Waiting since 2019.

because you wanted to make a video saying you preorder it , but in reality dont have $65k , $89k , $110k laying around to purchase the vehicle
