  • Whether you want to automatically sync your photos or audio recordings from your phone directly to your desktop PC, or to sync your notes between all your devices, free and open source Syncthing will help you do this securely, privately, and reliably. I'll show how I'm doing this, and how I'm also keeping older versions of changes my notes so that I can restore them if needed (a bit like a basic backup).
Unlike many backup or sync applications, Syncthing will sync any number of folders directly between your devices, so no server is required. This can be done without even knowing the IP addresses of the devices. It can also sync over the Internet to a friend, if you want to share backup space with each other - you can set your own encryption password for each folder to keep your data private.
For iOS on my iPad I'm using the 3rd party paid Mobius Sync app. The only trick was for Obsidian Notes, to ensure I created the vault where Mobius Sync app could access it. Apple has a way of making things very difficult...

Really like syncthing use it for my keepassxc syncing. Wish more RSS readers supported having a file/folder that you could sync between your devices.

Yes Syncthing also fills in for those apps that don't do auto-sync (or which require a paid cloud subscription). It really can have lots of uses!

@@GadgeteerZA have you done a video on call recording before? If not what software do you use? Just checked and it seems like it's completely legal in my country.

I've not as it seems to differ by country and app. Even if the country allows it, many apps still block for that country. I use Call Recorder Pro which has worked well for me for years. Truecaller is suppised to offer it, but it's not working nor is Samsung's version. But my fail safe is a hardware Bluetooth device that works like a Bluetooth headset and records perfectly. I needed it when I switched to iPhone for a while, but it works with anything.

That rotating mouse animation is distracting :(

Thanks for that feedback - wish others would let me know. I'll try something that is not animated. I was just having trouble with some nice bigger cursors that kept changing shape across some windows. But let's see what I can get to work for the next video.

@@GadgeteerZA no worries. surprised you would be on windows if you're showcasing so many open source projects. in linux you can set the cursor size in accessibility options. :)

@@Crftbt no I am using Linux (that was a KDE desktop effect). There is a small issue between GTK windows and native app windows where the cursor shows a "default" on some types of windows - but I'll see if I can match those again. There are some nice cursor shapes there yes.
