    WHAT IS PoE
PoE stands for "Power over Ethernet". It is a technology that allows network cables to carry electrical power, in addition to data, to power network devices, such as wireless access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones, without the need for separate power cables.
With PoE, network devices can be installed in locations where electrical outlets may be difficult or impossible to reach, providing greater flexibility and convenience in network deployment. PoE can also simplify cabling and reduce costs by eliminating the need for separate power cables and outlets.
There are several different PoE standards, including IEEE 802.3af, which provides up to 15.4 watts of power per port, and IEEE 802.3at (also known as PoE+), which provides up to 30 watts of power per port. PoE+ is typically used to power devices with higher power requirements, such as pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras and video conferencing equipment.

Does the device have to be rated for POE or is POE only available on specific devices? This would be worth it just to get rid of all the power cords I have to stick into a power strip.

I just got a similar one and have powered it with just 12 volts ...does it need 48 volts before the PoE kicks in???

I don't know how to answer your question. I have not had a similar problem. These are basic POE switches. Sometimes you can run into the problems when your total power is eaten up in your first or second port then when you plug in the third item all the other devices will stop working.

Switches will sense PoE needs and send the right power to the equipment. Please subscribe!!

Can somebody tell me why this device can not power my Ubiquiti AirCubes? They power up fine with normal PoE bricks, but not with this PoE router?

I don't know why you're ubiquity equipment is not being powered by the switch. Usually POE switches need to communicate with the equipment before powering. Sometimes the equipment is requiring more power than the POE switch can handle. I have run into a similar situation with Cisco switches a few years ago. Everything was working well until I plugged in that last phone then all the phones shut down. I went past the total power that the switch could provide. You might want to check to see how much total power you are pulling from the POE switch.
