GamingSins: Everything Wrong With Devil May Cry 4 (Special Edition)

- Welcome to GamingSins, where I nitpick the hell out of video games.
So, Devil May Cry 4 is definitely in the upper echelon of action games and certainly one of the better DMC games. However, it is certainly not without its sins, especially when you take the Special Edition into account.

Nero: What? I thought this meant alot to you.
Dante: Keep it, so my brother can go after you and not me.
Vergil's DMC4 campaign should have been a What If scenario in which Dante never showed up to Fortuna and Yamato was still in The Order's possession, so Vergil comes instead to retrieve it from them.
@@loregasmic that would have been an awesome, what about vergils weapon? just plain ol fist action?
@@lightkirinhururname9147 ehem...Force Edge
Gameplay wise, Vergil wouldn't be any different than he is when you play as him. I'd have replaced Force Edge with Sparda just to grant him a bigger power boost when using it and a stronger DT. Mostly to show us what a Vergil wielding the Sparda would've been like. In the cutscenes he crashes the church instead of Dante and would be effortlessly ruining his enemies without his sword the way he did to Nero in DMC5 - which he does again here, but without ripping off his arm. Nero is tasked with pursuing Vergil the way he normally pursued Dante. By the time Vergil gets to the lab, Yamato has already been restored and taken by Nero. Agnus tries to ambush Vergil with Gladius but Vergil catches it and uses it to interrogate Agnus about Yamato, saying he had briefly sensed its energy here (when Nero awakened its DT). Agnus tells Vergil about the demon kid Nero who restored it and was able to use its power. Vergil immediately realizes who and what Nero is and pursues him. Instead of Yamato, Vergil discovers Beowulf in the possession of the Order instead. Vergil battles Nero for the second time who is now holding Yamato in his hand. Just like his second battle against Dante, Vergil now breaks out Beowulf which he uses to retrieve Yamato. Once he has it, Vergil cuts a portal open and is about to leave when Nero pleads with Vergil that he needs it to save Kyrie, who is being held hostage. Vergil knows he is degrading but actually has more time at this point of the DMC story. He decides to do his bastard son a favor for causing all this and kill Sanctus himself, who should be fodder for him even in his weakened state. After fighting Sanctus, Nero shows up to save Kyrie but gets absorbed into the Savior. Now Vergil has to do the backtracking and destroy the Savior. Once he does, Sanctus is dead, Nero and Kyrie are saved and Vergil departs with Yamato, bidding a quiet goodbye to his son. The end.
Best joke ever

@@ZoniferConundrum Quite a bit, yes.
I think Dante would be that one actor who can improvise very well and most be known as comedian while Vergil is the more serious method actor.

Though he did sell most of them
I never new that about the Devil arms lol. But at least Dante got an upgrade in the form of Barlog.

Majklkiller This series is basically nitpicking turned up to 11. He probably already knows it.

No-one:
GamingSins: VERGIL'S H A T E B O N E R
That hate was divine for that lady, I'm sure
6:00 Dante needed the Sparda too so when he stabbed himself with Rebellion, they would merge as one and unlock his Sin Devil Trigger
also he had to be the one to stab himself to unlock that power, much like how vergil had to stab himself in order to split himself with yamato
It was also about him finding his purpose again and accepting his heritage.
He got trashed throughout the first half of his story segments. And looked very, very tired. Not physically, but attitude-wise.
This entire series is about family and purpose.
So yeah.
Though Gaming Sins is not really serious, anyway.
About half of the sins can be pretty easily debated.
But that is not really the point of these videos.
@@rogaldorn4759 didnt he already come to terms with his heritage in 3 though, since him being able to embrace his demon side aswell as his mortal side is kind of what put him over the edge against vergil to begin with
@@Sleepy_Kitsune
Come to terms?
Yes.
But the reasoning did not have to do with defeating Vergil.
I am pretty sure he still hated, or at least, disliked this aspect of his, since he blamed his father for many conflicts and issues, correlated to demons.
I could be wrong.
But that does not change the core issue: Dante lost his MOTIVATION until Vergil came back.
He was really without a purpose.
Only after realising that he still has a family matter to settle, did he start caring.
I am trying to keep these replies reasonable in size.
Because the psychology behind the brothers and their conflict is pretty damn interesting. And going off on a tangent happens quickly.
@@Sleepy_Kitsune
Vergil stabbed Dante with Rebellion in 3 and that unlocked his devil trigger.
Absolutely lost it when Dante set Rebellion on the ground and revved it like Nero does with Red Queen. NEVER noticed that on any of my playthroughs.
10:34 sin 82. Visions of V answers that question. The Yamato broke after Mundus defeated Vergil and corrupted his body into Nelo Angelo. It is suggested in one of the novels that Mundus disposed of the broken sword and it and the black armor pieces of Nelo Angelo were found near Fortuna
Neat but remember if you have to use outside material to understand something in game is a sin for the game has failed in providing DETAILS
That does bring up the question as to why DMC's Satan would break the sword that opens up doors to the demon world and just toss it in the garbage.

4:21 maybe its because the devil arm glows only when it senses one of the Sons Of Sparda, since in DMC 5 it glowed when Vergil was present in the garage with Nero. (But that's just what I think..)
Actually I think it's just with anything directly related to Sparda, since it also reacts to Yamato.
No "KYRIE!!!!!" Bonus Round? Bummer...
- 5 sins for Dante's entrance, -3 sins for Dante being pinned to the wall with his own sword and get back to fight, - 3 sins for amazing shot with Nero's both boots landing on Dante's face. Man! That was powerfull cutscene!
Would've been weird if Vergil encountered Credo. Especially, when they both share the same voice actor.
Not to mention Credo was a kid/not born.
No just mocap. His english voice actor is terence j. Rotolo not daniel southworth
8:58 I wouldn’t be surprised if Gloria did inspire the creation of Bayonetta’s character since Hideki Kamiya did say he researched DMC4 a lot when developing that game
“Nero, I don’t feel so good” Dead lmao
Signs of pregnancy
Dante is the guy that would bring a motorbike to a gun fight
To be honest. That would sound kind of cool. If that makes some sense
Sin #30 Dante isn’t fully embracing his demonic power at that moment. He ,at that particular moment, is just using enough of his power and strength to just toy and play with Nero. Remember how DMC5 where he said he felt that Nero was Virgil’s Son but wasn’t sure? This is him at that moment “testing the waters” and trying to confirm his suspicion. Especially now after Nero had shown off his Devil Buster.
Sin Devil trigger doesn’t activate/take effect because the whole purpose of the rebellion sword is to embrace one of the two halves of any figure, instead of keeping them separate and contained like how the Yamato does. The two swords are polar opposites, much like Dante and Virgil. When Virgil stabs himself, he embraces the power of the Yamato knowing it’ll separate his human from demon. Rebellion awakens Dante’s inner Devil trigger in DMC3 because the sword’s power was feeding off of Dante’s hatred for Virgil after he’d been bested. Theoretically he could’ve gone into sin devil trigger at that moment as well, but Dante doesn’t know to fully embrace his demon power to send him to that state. Rather he ties it with his human nature and thus lets his demon power harmonize with his human self.
Dante only gets the idea to stab himself with the rebellion after seeing his old home and thinking about his father and mother, who gave Dante and Virgil Rebellion and Yamato (Respectively). Then he thinks back to the events of DMC3 and says “Hey my Father gave my Brother a sword to separate man from devil, and when I was stabbed with this, it embraced my inner demon and made me more powerful even though I rejected my demon side. But now I accept it... How bout another party” and thus stabs himself.
Thanks for reading.. ok I’m out. K thanks bye
... It's Devil BRINGER... Just sayin'.
Redd 02 thanks. Got a little confused there. It’s been a minute
Still missing Dante's mindset. He's still not fully accepted his Demonic half. He only just went DT in cutscene in thia games that one time Nero was punching his face in, he's legit still rejecting his Demonic side so I'm doubting his Sin DT would hav activated when he got impaled anyways. Probably just give his base DT a minor boost at best

17:37 And Capcom slaps us in the face with their DMC X pachinko machines, which has a Trish/Dante tag team scenario, Lady gets involved too.

Yea about that, if you notice in nearly all DMC games Dante’s devil trigger is different in each one because of which sword he’s carrying, so him getting stabbed by rebellion here wouldnt cause him to go into sin because
1. He didn’t have devil sword Sparda
2 his devil power had been activated at that point

9:40
"Luck! Blind! Stupid! Simple! DO DAH! CLUELESS! LUCK!"
5:55 lol I already know the sin for DMCV
Actually pays off that time too
Well that sin doesn't make much sense either. Since in DMC5 Dante had Sparda with him so it can be absorbed into Rebellion whereas in DMC4 Dante didn't have another Devil Arm or Sparda with him when Nero impaled him with Rebellion. Also Nero stabbed Vergil with Yamato in his boss fight and if we apply the same logic to Dante he should've split apart like when he stabbed himself with Yamato. Not only that but everytime Vergil stabs Dante with Yamato shouldn't he have split Dante's soul like it did for Vergil.
The only obvious solution is the fact only the user of the weapons can utilize their special ability or someone who mastered the weapon. Dante in 5 stabbed himself with Rebellion with the intent to activate it's ability whereas Nero stabbed him with Rebellion by throwing it at him.
And even then like I said before Dante needed Sparda to absorb which he didn't had on him when he was impaled in DMC4.
Dante's shop is in Redgrave instead of Fortuna ;)
So, great work as usual. One question, will you do a gaming sins on DMC5 after E3?

"Dante's not invincible" ... Good joke, man, I almost believed you. Seriously though, Dante is the definition of being invincible
If we're being technical, Dante is unkillable not invincible.
@@caitlinbrewer4843 Maybe, but there are some things speaking against this.
First, he is the protagonist of the game, so .... plot-armor. Next, he is not unkillable, as you could cut his head of and he would die, but he almost everytime seems to get a powerboost if something like this happens, for example when he was stabbed and through this gained additional demonic powers( plot-armor says "hello") and the best reason for Dante being (almost?) invincible: he defeated the King of Demons. You know, just the one who is the strongest demon of them all? I mean, why else would he be the King of Demons if he is not the strongest? And Dante killled him. The only one who is a real match for him is bis brother, and in Dmc 5 their fight was a draw. So, can his brother defeat him? Maybe, but Dante, before fighting him, also fought a whole army, tons and tons of demons, while his brother was just sitting around and still, he could not defeat Dante. So... why exactly is he not invincible?

17:31 Oml I laughed so hard😂
Well, to be fair, when Dante pierced himself with Rebellion in DMC5, the reason he acquired the Sin Devil Trigger was because he had the Devil Sword Sparda in his possession and absorbed its power. So...
10:18 so I have a theory. So at the end of dmc 3, Vergil had to fight Mundus and lose. Hence why he was mind controlled. So I believe Yamato was shattered and somehow was found in the human world, near or at fortune. This is a theory and I don’t know if this is right.
14:49 The roots are holding the bridge up, so of course it wouldn't work.
He does use the fruit. Seconds later in the video, Nero punches the ground - touching the roots, and they wither. It's fair to assume he's had to touch them the whole time, 'cause in all previous cases he's standing right in front of them. In this situtation he couldn't reach them from downstairs at the bridge controls.
I know this is for fun and the 'sins' are arbitrary, but I can't let it slide if you're wrong and the thing you're sinning actually makes sense.
I'm glad someone else points out how ridiculous it is for Vergil to boink a human woman.
