Oh a small PSA for you all! As it turns out, we're reading 'The Nature of Witches' for the month of October for our book club over on patreon! So if you feel like reading a long with us, please feel free to check it out: www.patreon.com/christyannejones 🎃💛
One thing I have noticed is that when you talk about a book while holding it, you often look at it as if you were introducing your friend to us. I don't know, I think it's really wholesome and it makes me smile.
The Girl Who Drank the Moon is one of my favorite middle grade books! I wish I could find more books like this one. I need to read the Phillip Pullman series. I love your edition. The cover is beautiful.
Omg perfect timing, I’m ready for the spooky season 🎃 For Spanish and Italians this a very famous kids-young adults books, but maybe not so well known outside, but Fairy Oak saga is the best for autumn. Every year since I was ¿10? I read again the saga because they’re one of my confort books. And the illustrations… wow, thanks to them I discovered the illustrator profession and wanted to be an illustrator. And on the 18th of October for the 15th anniversary of the saga, the writer (the same as The W.I.T.C.H) is going to rehearse a knew book here in Spain (I think in Italy it’s been sold a few months before). Also I recommend a book from one of the most famous fantasy writers in Spain Laura Gallego, al her books are amazing but “Dónde los árboles cantan” is perfect for this season
I am in love with your content voice book recs aesthetics and your home❤️ I mean look at the details..the candle piece on the table throw on your couch and the caramel coloured lamp in the background....so calm and eye pleasing ✨🍁✨ I am binging on all your old videos
Oh my god after over 5 years watching booktube you are the first person who’s recommended Chronicles of Chrestomanci in a video! I LOVED those books, imo they were the same level of Narnia Harry Potter and His Dark Materals, but nothing takes itself too seriously. I still have my secondhand books of those, they’re yellowed and crackling (already at that state when I got them) that you can barely hold them let alone read, but I refuse to let them go
Lovely list! I also love witchy stories, especially coming of age ones. I ordered the Virago Book of Witches after seeing you talk about it in another video. Some of the ones that I have picked up this year or would recommend: - Flying Witch by Chihiro Ishizuka (slice of life manga series) -Thornyhold by Mary Stewart (cozy mystery) -The Thickety by J. A. White (dark middle grade) - Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama (Ghibli-esque manga) - Black Spring by Alison Croggon (Wuthering Heights retelling with witches)
These recommendations are perfect and so festive for the season. I'll be checking a lot of them out. As an aside, I love your candle "spinner." Where did you get it?
You are so phenomenal to listen to. Your accent is so pretty and your person seems very genuine and calming. I will be checking out a few of these books.
Hi Christy 🙋♀️ I noticed that you have a lot of board games, can you make a video about your faves, I’ve been wanting to buy one to play with my bf, but I don’t know much a bout this type of game 😢 and since you have a great taste for books, and I loved every book recommendation that I read, I think a I’ll really love your board games recommendations!!! ❤️❤️❤️ lots of love from SC Brazil 🇧🇷 ❤️
You could read The Alchemaster's Apprentice by Moers. It's about an (evil) Alchemist who really hates Witches who adopts a cat-like creature that he plans on feeding and killing for its fat at the end of the month (The book is from the perspective of said cat). Spooky castle vibes, immaculate atmosphere, so much food.
@@christy-anne-jones I think you might also enjoy his other book - The City of Dreaming Books! It's really creative and what's more, Walter Moers also illustrates his books by himself, which I find very inspiring :)
I absolutely loved Circe. I also read Song of Achilles and I thought it couldn’t top Circe but it did. I never cried so much as I did in Song of Achilles.
I've loved the recomendations, as always, maybe because I love magic!!! Actually I've already read "Howl's Moving Castle" and " Charmed Life", both are amazing! Cheers😊
Great recommendations Christy! I love this motif, especially at this time of the year! I've read The Familiars by Stacey Halls but now put The Foundling on my TBR list too :) I would personally highly recommend the Practical Magic series by Alice Hoffman (Practical Magic, The Rules of Magic, Magic Lessons and coming soon The Book of Magic
It’s crazy to me that you’re talking about the Pendle witches and you’ve read the Familiars! I live around the corner from Gawthorpe Hall where the book is set, in Lancashire ☺️ I highly recommend Stacey Halls’ other book The Foundling, I think it’s even better than the Familiars!
"Wicked" by Gregory Maguire! I love the writing, I love Elphaba, I love how inventive the world is, bringing a lot more complexity to the land of Oz. It's a good read.
Someone may have already asked but that candle in the background of your video with the spinning mobile attached is incredibly beautiful and whimsical. Where did you find that?
Fabulous list. I have the familiars on my tbr already, must move it up. Autumn is such a great witch time 😊 the witch books that are on my tbr are the Manningtree witches, the witch finders sister, and a discovery of witches. Can't wait!
Thank you for the lovely recommendations!!! I have not read very many witchy books before but I am really interested in that History of Witchcraft and Magic book! I love your dress so much by the way!! ^o^
Hi Christy! For a wonderful witchy series, I can highly recommend The Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth. It's a 6 book series (don't be overwhelmed, it's very immersive), starting with book 1 titled Dragonclaw. Kate Forsyth is an Australian author. (I'm Australian too... hi from Brisbane!) I loved the characters and the world-building. For so long, I thought if I had a daughter (I can't and won't now for medical reasons) she'd be called Isabeau, a name I hadn't heard before reading those books. Isabeau is one of the main characters.
@@christy-anne-jones You're welcome! I hope you get around to reading it. Be prepared for me checking in periodically to see if you've picked it up yet, haha. I promise not to hound you. (*Ponders what our definition of hounding is in the reading world*). The dialogue in the books often leans towards old Scottish dialect so there's lots of 'ye' and 'ken' and 'canna' and 'dinna', which some people find to be weird or a hindrance at first, but it didn't throw me off at all. I read it for the first time about 20 years then re-read it about 7 or 8 years ago. It's the first fantasy series that I really loved.
So many good recommendations! I still haven't read Howl's Moving Castle yet- so i'll be reading that one this month for sure. By the way- can i ask where you got the windmill candle from ? it's lovely
Hi Christy, really enjoyed the variety of recommendations presented. 🐱🦇 Looking forward to The Nature of Witches for our Patreon bookclub. 💜 🎃 And I'm hoping to get to The Hour of the Witch in October as well. 🏚🌌🌃
I want to recommend Thornythold by Mary Stewart and Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. Another book I enjoyed was Confessions of a Pagan Nun by Kate Horsley. Maybe you'll enjoy them...)0(
Thank you very much for your recommendations! Last Halloween I loved very much A pinch of magic by Michelle Harrison, really the perfect read to bring some magic on this day! 👻🎃
Thank you so much. This is the first video of yours I seen and totally love this list. I added a few to my tbr for sure. I devoured a awesome witches novel called Coven of the Soul Sisters by Laverne Stewart. I read the whole thing in one day and perfect witchy story. Thanks so much for sharing. Peace love and happiness ~ Tracey
I wish people would stop treating magick and witchcraft as aesthetic. It's not something you can wear or that only gets celebrated during one month of the year. I wonder if someday we will get accepted in society as practicing witchcraft, but I doubt it 😅
Libraries are a fabulous way to go if you want to read physical books and have access to them! If your local library doesn't have a book available, often you can ask the librarians to order it for you. And, if not, eBooks are generally way cheaper than physical copies. Or you could even try the app Libby, which is a free library app for audio books and ebooks--you just need a library card to use it 💛
Christy, I love this kind of video, and I love books, but I feel that you recommend the same books over and over again. The only thing that changes is the title of the video. I know that reading takes time and you can't recommend something that you haven't read, but maybe it's better to only publish these videos once in a while. Have a nice week.

Omg i saw that when I was online shopping
My house just got flooded because of a storm u have no idea how much this video has comforted me
I'm so sorry! That's absolutely horrible. I hope you're okay and that the damage isn't too bad 💛

I love Alice Hoffman's book on the Owen witches, there is Practical Magic which is great, but I love Rules of Magic and Magic lessons so much!!
I love the movie for Practical Magic! I really need to read some of Alice Hoffman's work 💛💛
@@christy-anne-jones me too a big comfort movie for me, re-watched it so many times and defientley my favourite movie house 💜💜

The Crucible is also an allergory for McCarythism during the Red Scare, so it's doubly great because you can see how "witch trials" continue to happen

I recently bought 'The girl who drunk the moon', excited to read.
