I climbed Adams by that route three times in the early 80s. On one of those climbs, another climber was accompanied all the way to the top by his German Shepard. There was a glissade chute all the way down from the false summit to Lunch Counter. The dog sat at the top of the chute watching people get in the chute and slide down and then jumped in and rode it all the way down in a sitting position.
On another climb in late August, the slope from the false summit to the top was completely free of snow. It was covered with a thick layer of small loose pumice rocks which made the ascent a real workout. One step up, a half step sliding backwards. It was a blast on the way back down though because you could plunge step all the way back to the false summit. Also, the miners' cabin at the summit was partially uncovered.
On another climb I crossed paths with a father accompanied by two little kids just below the false summit. They were completely unequipped for where they were, but he did have a 45 in a holster on his hip, just in case I guess. Luckily for them, the weather that day was ideal and the snow was soft so crampons weren't necessary.
That route is very doable for a lot of people, but it still needs to be taken seriously because things can go wrong pretty easily.

I think I would pay to see a German Shepherd glissade down Adams. Also, I’m curious about the old mining cabin (which I didn’t know existed before your comment). Apparently it was originally going to be a forest service lookout but was abandoned. A place that’s under snow for much of the year doesn’t seem all that practical for mining.

@@DanStenziano You are right that it was originally built to be a Forest Service lookout. It was abandoned in the 1920s. In the 1930s sulfur mining was done for several years on the summit and the miners used the lookout as their place to stay. They also added on to the original building. The miners back then were a hardy bunch, but I don't imagine that the mining could have been in operation for more than a few months of the year. When I saw it, the roof and two sides were exposed above the snow, but the inside was about half filled with snow and ice so you couldn't walk in there. I have a photo of a number of climbers sitting on the roof resting after the climb.

Did I hear the words "glute chute?" 😂 Looked like a lot of fun! Interesting observation about microspikes, and epic slow-mo jumping! 👍

Hmmm, I've never really heard you use an expletive before, unlike UV. Perhaps next time🤞Great Video, thanks for sharing.

Noted, thanks for the feedback. For anyone seeking more risqué hiking content, I would direct them to your latest pct video 😁

It looked like a very hard hike up but fun on the way down. Nice video of the sledding down, but be careful with your poles :)

That glissade looked like a theme park water slide with those huge banked turns and overhangs.

Would you recommend the Hillsound trail crampons for the snowy Sierra section on the PCT?
