Yes! The two tone alpha, I'm pretty sure, pre-dates the adding strings technique. I learned the two tone alpha technique at least 15 years ago, maybe more! And I made a bracelet that had three colors by using two base strings! And I would knot one base string around the other base string AND the leading string, depending on what color I wanted.
Sometimes, depending on the bracelet, I still use the two tone alpha technique for one color in the bracelet instead of adding another leading string because I find it sooooo much easier!

I used to use that technique only, but I could never get the knots tight enough. Now, I do the color switching exclusively and it helped me a lot with knot consistency. My alphas have improved so much, they actually look straight now loll.

From what I see on Instagram, bracelet makers, mostly Russians use crochet thread a lot for bracelet making becuz their skeins are long (it's crochet thread, of course, they are super long) and they are lots of pretty colors

This was wonderful and insightful to listen to, like a friendship bracelet podcast with a background video and the descriptive photos related to the questions. I think I recognized some of the questions too 😉

There is a trick to take perfect bracelet photos on a pure white background. You lay them flat in a scanner and scan them. It sounds silly, but it works well. Of course, as long as the lid is closed tightly enough, which can get tricky, but putting something on top can help squeezing the bracelet in and making the image clearer. It's a trick I learned a while ago on a forum. Sadly, I don't have a scanner anymore :(

thegothicslytherin I think my scanner has too short a focal range because I tried that and even weighed down parts of the bracelet were out of focus- but I’m sure with some scanners it works well, nice tip!

@@patternandcraft3908 oh no :( I didn't think of that, it's true some scanners don't have the same range. It's a shame though cause most of them are pretty good at capturing shine and color. Except neon, that was a total disaster 😂 the floss just ended up looking completely white.

Eva Doodnath haha right?! I have way too much... I feel like I should try to use up at least half of it before I let myself order any more 😬

Oh wow, it had never occured to me to start a bracelet from the middle. A few months ago I made a bracelet that required something like 3-4m of each string, and it was 12 strings iirc, that thing was a PAIN to make hahah more tangle than I have experienced in the years I've been doing this.
I think I know what they meant about FB and BF knots lining up evenly, if they mean it for the straight edges. They're so easy to accidentally push too high or place too low and as a result they don't line up perfectly with the knots inside of them. Just have to be very careful, I guess.
Also, your job sounds super cool! I've always wanted to do something in graphic design but I'm just not very creative when it comes to coming up with ideas. I know my way around software and would definitely be able to learn how to use the advanced stuff, not just Photoshop, but I just don't have ideas, it's been a big struggle my whole life haha
