I made an access hatch under the rear seat directly over the fuel pump. I just didn't want to remove the gas tank. lol. So now, If I have to do this again I just move the seat, open the hatch and there it is. They should make a hatch like this on these trucks at the factory.

Tech tip. It's a better idea to unhook the positive battery cable instead of the negative cable. Reasoning is, that if you remove the negative cable, it could still accidentally ground itself. The positive cable cant do anything.

A fine video: thank you. The porno movie background music was annoying, though.

would I have to install a new fuel pump if I broke the fuel line connection? I pulled on it without the special tool thinking it would come right off.

I’m replacing the Airtex fuel pump right now because the sending unit failed. The two flexible fuel lines that go from the pump to the metal fuel lines are kinked and soft feeling. Should I replace those?

Also take the rear drive shaft out for little more clearance to get the tank in and out

How much does this usually cost to get done?

I paid over $800 to get mine done some years back and now have made the access opening under the left rear seat for "next time". Also, the metal deposited strip that the fuel gauge wiper rides on is pretty wore yet the pump is still working. I like the old style rheostat resistance wire which could take a car all the way to the junk yard and still show you how much gas is in the tank. I do my gas fill ups based on the trip odometer mileage.

Yeah thanks, found the tool. I would recommend to anyone else who needs the tool to buy the metal one. Spend a few extra bucks. Well worth it.

What size removal tool would you need for a 2000 5.7L Tahoe? That's giving me the most trouble.

Stand on a step stool and look from above the engine. Drivers side, hidden behind lines or a harness or two. You'll see the little cap. I couldn't see it when standing on the ground I had to jump up on the radiator support/engine/anywhere else to support my weight and look from directly above where the fuel lines come in.
