Venison Deer Meat Recipe Easy Venison Gravy Roasts in a slow cooker crock pot or in a dutch oven in your oven. These roasts are braised or seared and then put in a slow cooker or cast iron dutch oven for 4-6 hours at 300 F. We like to eat these over potatoes , but it can also be a stand alone meal.

That looked awesome. I know I would eat a LOT of that. Great video.
This looks absolutely delicious! We are cooking it tonight! I'm going to wing it because you didn't list the specific recipe, only ingredients. I loved that your video was to the point and the clip of you harvesting the animal was the cherry on top! Nice job!
Awesome video thanks!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Comfort food and looks delicious going to do this for dinner soon! Thank you for the video
Awesome! Let us know how it turns out for you.
Watching this video makes me feel hungry...so yummy
I just ate some of this as leftovers, so good.
That looks awesome
It is as good as it looks.
Oh wow, that looked amazing. Well done
It is a real crowd pleaser and belly filling comfort food.
Best looking deer and gravy ever so tender you that man
It is sooo good.
THANK you for actually knowing and using the word fond! most chefs i watch dont even know it, much less use it!
I’m a novice, but I’ve picked up on what you pros are doing. Thanks for checking it out.
Havent cooked deer in years, this year i decided to give it a try, first attempt is this recipe, im so glad i tried it out, it is amazing. Never giving my deer away anymore. Reallly good with mash potatoes and a cup of wine on this cold day
Comfort food! 😄
THAT is a thing of beauty! I’m making a venison stew with this recipe! THANK YOU!
How did it turn out? I've got friends that have used this recipe and they say it has been one of the favorite meals for venison.
@@TeachaMantoFish It turned out very delicious! Thank you!
Thank you so much! This looks delicious! Going to try it out tomorrow in the crockpot
You won’t regret it. I’ve been told by many it is a family favorite now.
Let us know how it turns out.
Oh that looks wonderful!!
It is, real comfort food on a cold day.
@@TeachaMantoFish oh so true I miss deer and elk.
I was sold when I saw the gravy at the end of cooking
Nice! I'll be giving this a go. Got a big buck this season. Subscriber for sure.
Congrats! Please let us know how it turns out for you. One of our favorites.
OMG, You have the most gorgeous blue eyes. Interesting venison roast recipe. I have an Axe deer roast I do not want to ruin. Thanks.
Oh man I can almost smell the delicious flavours from this video. Such a great informative video mate. Much love from England
Kinda hard to hunt over there isn't it?
@@montanamike7948 We can hunt, but we have very regulated legislation regarding firearms, hunting licences, areas we can hunt etc. But again, I love your videos.
I love this recipe. I cook my roasts in the slow cooker following this recipe. I add big pieces of carrots and celery. Before serving, I add bow tie pasta and mix it all together.
That’s a whole meal! Sounds delicious
Have only cooked venison roast one other time, and it was “meh”. My brother recently gave me a couple, so searched and found your recipe. My hubby and 20 something kids couldn’t get enough and neither could I!! You’re a venison chef hero in my opinion. 👍🏻 So easy and sooooo delicious!! Thanks very much:)!🦌
That is great!
And I meant 20 something year olds, who’ve never eaten venison!!! Lol. Not 20 kids😂😳. Just caught that. Ha! Anyway, thanks again. ☺️
Also really depends on the cut of meat you get. Anything from the front, besides maybe the shoulder, IMO is just too tough for a roast, same for cows.
Added this to my list of to makes. Just picked up my deer from the butcher and accidently got a bunch of roasts. I don't normally get any roasts, just steaks and burger. I think that's about to change after I try this. Awesome video, thanks for the share.
You won’t be making a mistake adding this to the recipe list.
Meal fit for a kin right there. I'm making that one haha.
Here in Australia we say "Wistasheer". Thanks mate I got my 1st whole deer leg to slow cook. I was gunna add vegies but I might do it your way.
Things make more sense in Australia, I’ve loved my travels there.
Let us know how it turns out.
Omfg that was the best meal made that I've ever seen. And I watch tons from everywhere. #1
😲😲😲. Wow! Thanks
@@TeachaMantoFish i got full just watching it
Absolutely looks delicious!! But I didn’t see any amounts for spices and water!
‘‘Twas delicious
Good company goes along well with a good meal.
Made it. Delious. My wife enjoyed it as well. Waiting to hear feedback from our 17 year old but I think they are going to really enjoy it as well.
It’s a home run with our family and friends too.
Oh no not another to try lol. Looks good and I will be trying it. The carne asada was amazing.
Sooo easy too!
@@TeachaMantoFish I see that
I like venison recipes. I made Italian Beast with shanks last week it was very tasty.
What was your recipe? That would be something good to try this season.
@@TeachaMantoFish Essentially an Italian Beef recipe substituting Venison for Beef, but with a little more love.
Thanks for Subscribing i appreciate that , your video was great thanks for sharing
Keep cranking out those videos! 😃
Giving your recipe a try for dinner tonight. Using elk roast! If it taste half as good as it smells, this will be a new recipe to add to the rotation!
Excellent! That sounds like it will be amazing and a giant meal. I’d love to hear back how it goes.
@@TeachaMantoFish simply put…it was amazing! I did the corn starch slurry at the end like you suggested. My kids aren’t big fans of venison, yet they both went back for another plate full! You’re right, it was a giant meal. We had plenty to share with our neighbors who also loved it and begged us for the recipe. We shared your video with them.
Great meal and a wonderful recipe. Thank you for sharing this and I recommend that anyone reading this also tries it! Sooo good!
@@maverickadventures723 that is great and warms my heart to hear you all like it. Thanks for participating in the channel. If you haven’t already seen it, our Osso Bucco recipe is another great and surprisingly tasty comfort food recipe. I’ll put a link below thus comment.

Where'd you get that Garlic Press? I Like that!
It is a cool mincer! Check out the links in the description, you can buy the stuff there.
I've used lipton mixes on beef and pork but if I use a whole pack on pork it is always way to salty for me. Does it not make the venison salty? I always add beef broth too. Looks amazing! I have my venison in the sink thawing right now!
Maybe a little but I wouldn’t say “way too salty”.
I wonder how different au jus mix vs onion soup mix is... I'm a big fan of au jus in my crock pot dishes
I bet that would be good too.
Did you make a video of your mash potato mixture??
Not yet, I promise it is in the production list.
Can't wait to try this recipe, but what are the amounts of Worcestershire, bouillon, garlic, and soup packs?
I just kind of wing it, but it isn't much, tbsp Worcestershire, 2 tbsp bouillion, 3 garlic gloves, one soup pack
Giving this a shot. Using an elk roast that I coated with salt, pepper, oregeno and basil before searing. 3 cups of beef broth , about 2/3 cups of Worcestershire Sauce and three shakes of powdered garlic all stirred together and then poured over the roast. Put in oven at 375 for about 3.5 hours. Will let you know what the family things of it!
Wow! That sounds epic. Looking forward to hearing about it.
Looks amazing- what is the oven time for approx 2lbs roast?
I'd go 2 hours and then check it, could be 3 hours.
Hey AWESOME Channel btw. SO I was searching your uploads and you never said what you put in your mashed potatoes? I was just curious...and hungry. Please let us know or make a new video. Thanks
Thanks for the kick in the seat, I'll move it up the production list.
Lol saw one on the side of the road 😂 but look good with gravy remind me of Roast beef
Meat is meat.., 😂
@@TeachaMantoFish true
Holy cow how many people are you cooking for?? Thats like a whole back leg+shoulder
I think I found how I’ll be cooking the venison roasts I just butchered up 🤤
You’ll love it! So good
and congrats on the harvest!
@@TeachaMantoFish thanks! It is actually my first deer. 🙂
@@joshuajohnson7183 oh wow! Double congrats then and job well done. Healthiest and highest quality meat the common man has access to.
Where can I find the measurements for the ingredients. I'm wanting to surprise my husband and make this but I'm a follow directions kind of lady. I appreciate the help with this.
I guess I kind of just do it off the cuff, if you look in the video you can see the size of what I'm using. If you've got a specific question I can answer it with my best guess.
@@TeachaMantoFish I would love to know how much water you started with to make your soup base, how much worscheshire(?) and how much liquid and corn starch you used to make the thickening agent. Only because it made the perfect gravy consistency at the end! Whatever ratio you had going on looked just right. I am just going to wing it today. Thanks for the video!
@@TheFlotronFunnyFarm I’d say 1 qt of water for soup, I cup of water and 2 tbsp of starch. You can s add Keats thin it if too thick.
@@TheFlotronFunnyFarm and two or three dashes of Worcestershire sauce
@@TheFlotronFunnyFarm and two or three dashes of Worcestershire sauce
Can u make like pulled pork BBQ
Most definitely, I’ve done it in a crackpot
What temp did you put the oven on?
375
What was the temperature of the oven?
375
Did I miss the quantities for everything you used? How much water, Worcestershire Sauce, garlic or garlic powder etc. Only thing that's obvious is you used two packets of the onion soup mix and looks like five cloves of garlic.
about 4 cups of water, garlic to taste, probably about 2 teaspoons of powder for my taste.
This was so good. my husband is a fussy eater and even he said it was very good. My roast was maybe only about two pounds and this is the ingredients I used
Seared the meat( I had cut it into 2 portions)
Into 4 cups of water I added:
2 Tablespoons of BETTER THAN BOUILLON
2 large cloves of garlic
1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire
I had no Lipton Onion soup in the house so I added:
1 tsp. Onion powder
1 tsp. Garlic powder
1 tsp. Parsley
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Turmeric
1 Tablespoon. or more of dried onion flakes.
Poured over the venison.
The venison was completely covered, I used a small pot.
Into the 300 degree oven covered for only an 1-1/2
It was not dry per usual.
I found this video very helpful.
Any word on that magic potatoe mixture yet boss?
Thanks for the kick in the seat to get it done! I'll move it up in the production list.
Right on man I'm looking forward to it. Great Chanel 👍🏻
How do you cook this in a crock pot?
A long time, probably about 6 hours.
What’s thanks giving?
US Holiday where families gather together in a tradition to express thanks for the blessings we have, official holiday that ties back to the settlers.
They only have venison medallions and tenderloin at the store-would that also work here?
Most definitely
when did you add the Worcestershire Sauce
When the onion soup mix goes in.
@@TeachaMantoFish i figured it out. I made this tonight thanks. I added carrots cuz that’s what my grandma does
@@fredhall8089 how did it turn out?
@@TeachaMantoFish great. I used a pressure cooker and it only took about 1 hour. Baked the potatoes and carrots though. Thank you
Someone said you needed to soak in baking soda to get the gamey taste out
No way, I hate soaked meat. It looks snotty, tasteless and gray mushy to me. Properly aged, protected from contamination and cleaned up is all it needs. People say my meat has not game flavor.
Lol Worcestershire......take it from an Englishman, it's easy brother. Pronounce it as WUSSTER SHER. Keep these videos coming mate.
That’s a good trick, now I just have to remember it. We are talking about almost 50 years of screwing it up. 😂
@@TeachaMantoFish hahah
Ngl you do look like you hunt and eat those (its a complement)
375°F for 4 hours?!! Did you mean 275°F because holy hell that's hot. That's not low and slow at all.
Yeah, that was a typo. 275 and it is corrected, thanks for catching that.
Did anybody actually make this? Comments like, oh going to make this, aren’t helpful
Yes, it is great.
In the oven now. Will let you know in a few hours!
@@glenhalstead2301 it’s gonna be great!
It's great! Simple to make. I would recommend reducing the heat to probably 275 or 300 if you are going to cook it for hours and hours. I cooked mine at 375 for about 2.5 hours and then turned it down to 350 for last hour Meat was well done but almost falling apart.
My gravy was a little salty. I only used 1 pouch of onion soup mix but I did rub the roast with salt, pepper, oregeno and basil before searing it. I would cut back on the salt during the rub.
@@TeachaMantoFish It's very good! Won't hesitate to make this again! Thank you for making the video!
Could you possibly update your ingredients list with the quantities you used? Even if it's just ball park estimates of what you used. Would be helpful.
use real butter instead!
Agreed
How dare you do this to such a sweet and innocent animal
...without posting a full recipe, shame on you.
I just can’t kill a deer. I get they need to thin out the herd and I’m ok with killing bucks if necessary but not the females and babies. I keep thinking if u kill a mom deer and she has babies waiting for her, and she never comes back with food, they will die, or worse, predators will kill and eat the baby deer. My heart can’t take it. My hubby has friends who are hunters and they often give him fresh deer meat. I find recipes and cook it but I don’t eat it. It smells yucky and tastes gamey yucky.
Try it, it is so worth it and incredibly more healthy than factory farm meat.
