It's funny because I just recently got involved in Magic after about a 10-year hiatus and when deciding what deck to build, I noticed a lot of zombie cards in the latest expansions, so I decided to build a zombie deck. Well, turns out it's the #2 biggest standard meta deck at the moment. Damn, guess I'm a net decker now.
They usually are. Just tell them kindly to take a shower before they come, put on fresh clothes instead of talking behind their backs. Like, how are you expecting any change if you don't adress it? And blaming them for spreading diseases, then going on about health care etc... You know, logical conclusions.
Frankly, I don't understand what all this bad publicity about netdecking is. I am a returning player since 1 month, having sold all his MTG collection. Didn't play Magic since 2004 and have absolutely no idea about how the game plays nowadays. So, as I just wanted to get back as quickly and economically as possible, I looked up for some budget decks on the Net, of which I liked the way they played, and bought them. And the first person who would tell me it's wrong, well... It's her opinion, and I've got mine. In time, when I have got enough of a collection, I will build my own decks. But at this moment, the situation perfectly satisfies me :)
Alexandre Stoyanov The term net decker generally refers to the guys that go on MTG goldfish to check the top standing decks from a tournament and pay big bucks to build them all the while thinking they're hot shit at FNM. So long story short you're good since it's only budget brews.
Alexandre Stoyanov Net decking is a mind set of have to win have to play the top deck to win... I sometimes find a budget "Net Deck" and completely change it.
Alexandre Stoyanov I also play net decks when new sets come out because of the lack of cards. I agrer that It's a good starting point until you can build you're own.
I just built desolatormagic's kid-ramper deck for fnm and so far in testing against my friends decks it has wrecked them hard xD. I've been playing and building decks since 1993-4, so I can build my own, but when I see a fun, but not crazy expensive deck online I will build it. MTG❤❤❤
FUCK YES #6! #6 SMACKDOWN!! #2 - When you go home SMELLING LIKE THE SMELL Y GUY BECAUSE YOU SAT ACROSS THE TABLE FROM HIM!!! I'm starting to think "STANK" is a playing strategy.
I played against a girl at FNM Commander who had only played one game before and didn't have her own deck. Her friend gave her his Oswald Fiddlebender deck and she had no idea what cards she was supposed to search for to assemble any combo so every time her turn came around, the game ground to a halt while she fingered through every artifact in the deck. She moved so slow as well while playing lands, tapping, reading cards. We got one game in 3 hours.
At my old LGS, people told me a really cool way that a lot of people do the split the packs thing: When the record is the same and you're bound to get the same record, not necessarily the victory record, ask the split the packs and just play a casual game. Whoever wins gets the record, but you both get equal packs. You're still playing the game and having fun, but you both still get some packs. It's been a while since I've been to an LGS, and I'm not in the same state, so I'll probably never do it, but I just thought this was a nice way of doing it.
The other variation on number 5 is the staff member who participates in FNM and cannot be disturbed while he plays and expects everyone else to sit around waiting for his match to finish. Happened to me where I was playing standard and he put himself into a draft so round 2 went over by 30 minutes because of his game......
After getting into mtg and then your channel wouldn't it be awesome if you made a series or just an episode where you review your viewers deck, tell em whats good what they could change. Would be a good way to teach people about deckbuilding
i'm thankful for you sharing opinion about "the smelly ones" now I'm avare of how am i seen from the perspective of person I'm playing with. After that i started caring about my looks before going to the FNM. Never noticed it was a problem because... no ones mentioned it
I like and agree with almost all of these points, except for your #0. I think that if the top finishers decide that they want to split the winnings then they should be able to do that. Its not like someone else who didn't finish on top was going to get them if they played it out. The same people would win packs from the same prize pool. The only difference would be how many packs those players got after agreeing to split them evenly.
I don't think I ever would have guessed that people had a problem with it. Usually it's somebody that you're friendly with and you've accomplished what you came to do so you and your friend both get to walk out early and leave winners. Doesn't affect anybody else. More often we'll split then play a game for the W but sometimes peeps just want to get home early.
I went third on a Standart FNM with a self-built propably tier 3 "Mardu Ally Deck" bevore the SoI release and destroyed "Abzan Aggro" easily with Infinite Obliteration (exiled Anafenza on Turn 3 with I.O and then Crackling doomed each siege rhino he played, if I didn't get one of my other two I.O. for Turn 4) ... An underrated black sorcery from Origins, if you ask me. ;)
This is not a complaint nor am I offended because Im not a douche or bitch. I have something to say about #0, I am one of those people that play the tier two fringe decks, I love playing the off key decks. One of the times I was X-0 in an WNM (modern) I was so happy to be up for #1 in the finals. I went up to my opponent who also was the same way and we both decided to split and then played anyway to see who would win because us being in the top 5 was magical and we didn't want to be pushed out due to tie breakers. Splitting isn't something I generally like but in a fun setting I believe its ok because he benefited and I benefited and yet still was able to see how we could improve our decks and play styles. Other than that your opinion is not offensive and I respect your ideas and agree with everything you are saying .
#5 We once had someone go 1-4 and still get second place. There was a 4-1 and a 4-2 who got second and third place respectively. We were salty that night.
Okay legit question on an old video in case you happen to see it. Opinion on the Vorthos player who is way to into the story and can’t shut up about the story and flavor and the story of their deck or some other deck they have.
I really hate the people who complain after every match about how lucky the opponent was and how great their deck is. It just grinds my gears that people cant just accept that they lost, They always have a really mean tone. Its always people who are older than me who act like this. I dont know how it could even be fun to play like that.
In the case of my local lgs, I think your #0 isn't a bad thing. We do a lot of midnight events, so by the time it gets to the final round, it is about 4 or 5 in the morning, so the top 4 or top 2 just decide to split because we all want to go home and get some sleep.
Right! I've seen games end at like 1 AM and the top two player don't finish bc ya know jobs and life and SLEEP. I'm kinda new to MTG (I've only been to 5 fnms) and have never made top 7... ever. And I'd love the chance too. So with my lack of experience maybe I just don't understand... Idk in the end I'm there to have fun and play some games not care about who wins packs or if others finish there games. My only fnm is 200+ miles away so I can barely ever play, not sure how that matters but figured I should throw it out there. GO ALASKA!!!
I pretty much only play NPC decks because I find them to be more fun to play than the top tier decks. There is nothing more satisfying than dominating someone playing some bullshit with an army of commons and uncommons that they forgot existed in a set.
My friends and I share cards all the time. If someone needs a few duels for a gp or a land base for a new deck on the fly, i always hook my buddies up. And they do the same for me. It's a good system if you have trustworthy people in your crew
In regards to number 4: SaffronOlive @mtggoldfish had an opponent on a stream tell him that playing instants on your opponents turn is pretentious. The guy lost to Seth because he only played burn spells on his own turn. Lol.
There can be rare exceptions for #2. I suffered from smelling bad when I didn't know I had cancer. I showered everyday and still had people say I smelled bad but like I said rare exceptions.
About number 2, some of us work physical jobs and get off needing to race to fnm or we don't get to make it. Now those who don't than yea I see your point But I know my job can be physically demanding and cause me to sweat and smell after work and typically I have no time to scrub if I want to make it to even a draft on fnm that starts at 8.
What annoys me as a new player, the people winning are the net deckers, so they have stupid amounts of money to buy a deck, yet they’re the ones taking the prizes that they can afford to buy anyway, if you don’t have the money to buy a top tier net deck, chances are those packs are a lot more useful to you, but you’ll never get to win them because you can’t afford to buy a pay-to-win deck...I guess what I’m trying to say is the prizes end up going to the person who needs them the least thus keeping them out of the hands of someone who’s worked really hard to build a deck that’s competitive because they could really use those few packs, thus the richer player keeps the poorer player from ever truly closing the gap in their advantage 😕
To people saying netdecking is fine, it may be fine if you’re trying to make the pro tour but I think you should play what you want to if you’re just a casual player. If you are just playing fnm or whatever don’t netdeck it just makes you look bad because people are mostly playing fun decks at these. Number 6 it may not take away from their focus but I hate people who have headphones in and don’t even converse with their opponent and are kind of in their own little world When you were talking about the guy who said his deck was better than yours was bad, it reminded me of another type of a person you should add and those are the people who whether they win or lose always say that their deck is betterI remember I beat an opponent pretty badly one time and I heard him talking to his friend right afterwards saying how his deck was so much better and he made one play that would’ve changed at all which wasn’t true of course. Then you have the people who beat you and have the nerve to tell you that your day isn’t very good because also happened to me. If you win just win gracefully and the same goes for losing. I actually beat a pro player, channelfireball guy is all I’ll say, in a draft online one time and instead of just saying good game he had the nerve to tell me how I made a misplay. Even if I had made a bad play i won why feel the need to say something?
One type of player I don't really like are the ones who are constantly shuffling their hand. It's something I really don't get and find it annoying. Are they nervous or something while they play their netdeck?
I didn't know the proper rules for about a year mostly because my play group taught me wrong or didnt think they needed to talk about the stack or something like that.
Regarding #7: I just started teaching my stepsons (7 and 9) how to play Magic, and they're getting it amazingly quickly, as they usually do with games.
At the lgs I go to, our FNM is a booster draft and we do standard tourneys on Saturdays. About 12-15 people show up every friday for the drafts, but not nearly as many show up for the standard tournaments. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get more people to show up so the tournaments are more lively?
oh and do you have any ideas for my standard deck? : 2x asylum visitor 4x heir of falkenrath 3x stromkrik condemned 4x Olivia's bloodsworn 3x drana, liberator of malakir 3x Olivia, mobelized for war 3x excuisite firecraft 4x falkenrathgorger 2x titan's strenght 2x Lightning axe 3x collective brutallity 4x fiery temper 8 swamp 9 Mountains 4x forboding ruins 2x geier reach sanitarium I am currently considering cutting one Mountain or one geier reach for one asylum visitor becouse I lost a few games only pulling land when I needed a creature or a burnspell Please respond ^^
At my store it is common that in the final round the players agree to draw and then play out who gets the first pick of the draft rares, and I think that is ok.
I was interested in your brewing procedure and wondered if you have any videos detailing it. I'm a semi netdecker (I say that because I never chose the most powerful deck yet I really don't build anything from scratch) and want to learn how to effectively build decks for constructed formats. I also want to play blue red aggro forever because Izzet is my thing and want to know how to force it in every block yet still have at least a chance at winning.
Imo, if you get a bit salty at magic, and yes this happens to you me and everyone on the planet, just remember that your loses exist to teach you. If you flooded out/drew to few lands and you feel that this was out of your control, at least try to question everything you could have done to effect the outcome first. "Should I have mulled to five instead?" "Could I have held onto the only kill spell in my hand a turn longer?" Taking the time to at least evaluate your losses, even if it still seems your loss was out of your hands, can make your losses less toxic. Don't go into every match thinking, "I have to win, I have to defeat my opponent, I have to prove I'm better." Go in thinking, "I need to accept that my opponent may very well be better than me, I am going to try to take my play to the next level, and if i do lose I will regroup and examine the loss so that I can do better next time." Even the pros go to gps knowing they may very well be crushed in 13 rounds and have to cope with a very bleak weekend(and they do this for a living). Also, don't bother getting mad at players who are obviously below your skill level. People will suggest changes to your deck when you lose, sometimes you'll know those changes are obviously subpar and that your opponent probably let the win get to their head. Try to stay amicable, and realize you don't have to agree with them or change their opinion, so long as you don't let your own playstyle get worse. If they become trying on your patience, insistent, toxic even, just tell them you have to go do something else (And if they did win the match, maybe suggest they use their time to go report their win, its their responsibility anyways).
-1. Players who put down others who plays with cards/decks that no one else plays, the deck is good but other player(playgroup), wanting them to lose even thought they are actually okay players and actually take advice from other to build the deck and take time to improve his/her and won win most of the matches(like 3rd or 2nd place). -2. players who play "the victim" when they build a deck that is non-consistent and is actually bad not taking any advice from others and gets mad when he loses a match.
I had a few people at my lgs for number 1 that were banned from the store for being to spikey. This was for EDH and they do have some pretty sweet pizes and it made sense to be spikey, but in one match i played in his pod 3 times in a 4 game match
With regards to those in number 0. If you're so good why don't you make a deck and repeatedly beat them at magic and the arrogance right out of them. you have the power to stop those people.
We don't have a smelly guy but we have a few firebreathers. Last week a guy sneezed about 6 feet away from me and the smell of it nearly made me gag, it lingered for a long time too, so nasty.
I'm doing the whole van life thing (gotta love California)... and I still ensure my hygiene is good before I meet up with my play group. The owner of my lgs could stand to hear #2 though
I had to deal with the too-cool-for-schooler, except he was a Yu Go Oh player. Everything was there: ankle socks, white sleeveless muscle shirt, spiked hair, chin-strap, total broski. He had parked his Mustang across two spots before FNM started in a high-volume low-parking parking lot, and there weren't any other spots. I decided to punish him by parking in front of him, blocking him in. He finally came back from dinner and complained, but didn't say a word as I moved my car and parked in a newly opened spot. he was PISSED though. Damn Yu Gi Oh players.
From a "you don't know everyone's situation" perspective for #2 (I think) , I have no sense of smell and suffer from hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes me to sweat more than is appropriate for the weather. I know there are times when I must smell horrible and have no idea. It probably happens at least monthly that someone is significantly offended by my body odor, but the only people that ever say anything are boys around the age of 13, and that's just because boys that age are typically jerks. I don't know if there's an especially kind and at least somewhat socially acceptable way to tell someone they smell bad, and so people that smell bad don't get the feedback they need to make an adjustment. Even if you personally always were just up front and addressed the issue, they will see dozens of other people that are too embarrassed to say anything. The one guy that said something now looks like some hyper-sensitive jerk since no one else seems to have a problem. It's a tricky problem to solve, and, unfortunately, one that's not always as simple as you made it seem. That being said, most people know principles of basic hygiene, so it should not be as frequent an issue as it apparently is at FNM.
with #1, I don't know much about magic, but i play FIFA (I know, calm down) but I found it really fun to thrash my opponents with terrible teams, but just remain completely nonchalant. Btw, this game seems cool, I might start playing.
Hey @DesolatorMagic, you mentioned using maths and stuff to make decks in number 4, I was wondering how you do that? Kinda new and want to know how to get started with making cool deck ideas viable!
from what you have said i fit into the 0 category. i understand your perspective but i normally split at the end when i make it that far because i honestly am afraid i am going to loose and am very happy to be insured 8 packs instead of a 50% chance of getting 10 or 6 packs, i have done this several times at my store and have been able to continue it because the people at the top have said no to me about 3 or 4 times and i got really lucky and won all 4 times so now they agree just about every time. this is a strategy game and if my strategy is to eliminate the risk and get a high amount of packs i see no problem with it.
+Connor Mraz i guess i dont fit into the catagory because i don't net deck, i build my own decks that due fairly well. I start with my own ideah compare it to the netdeck and then change a few cards that i discover in the netdeck that would make my deck better but my lists are always at least 8 cards different from a netdeck. my deck right now is very similar to jeskia black but i dont play any black and made the deck more agressive iwth monestaryswift spears abbot of carol keep and jeskai charm.
If this makes you feel any better, during dragons of tarkir standard, I came in first in fnm and I used a 2 color deck and the majority of people used 3 color dragon decks (always have blue in as well.)
I went to a card store (haven't been there for 4 years prior) and was asked by some stranger if I had a deck to play with. He didn't know who we are and we didn't know who he was. I had a feeling that he chose us to ask, because he has never seen us before. I swear, if I handed him a deck, it would have disappeared along with him. Who the hell thinks this would work? Hand over my deck? Fuck off. Another thing... A friend and I were playing Warmachine (miniature figure game) at a dorm lobby and every time my turn came, he ran off and started talking to people. Every. Fucking. Turn. I know you want to go chat and all that, but every single second? He ran across the whole building, to where I almost couldn't even see him, to talk. Why even play? I had to keep calling him over (sometimes shout) to get him back into the game. At one point, I just started packing up, because it just wasn't worth the time.
I went to standard the other week and there were only 6 of us so we had a friendly 3 round tournament, 4 of the other players were playing the GW token deck that topped the pro tour. I have a bad match up against that deck, I'm a new-ish player so I suck at making a sideboard, I had no fun that night
the people who always say: "You're wrong because that's not what pro tour does" there was someone at my LGS who genuinely said to me, homebrews are not real decks. then proceeded to lose to 2 in a row. Another guy told me not to build my current modern deck because of the fact it wasn't a tier 1 competitive deck. People who blindly follow the pros and will always tell you you're wrong because you don't. and because you don't, you are bad, no matter how much you beat them
+Alex Hazard Where the heck do these people think new decks at the pro tour come from? Oh let's all abandon splinter and bloom and go back to infect and Tron and the other stupid cliches. OOPS looks like everyone built a brand new, never before seen Eldrazi rogue deck. Sorry.
I love it when your playing a person, but the whole time their not even talking and they either winning and just walking away, or when they lose they just storm off
Desolator Magic how do you feel about magic players that had to learn magic online and when he played with buds in Highschool got made fun of when he did not understand How a card revolves? I am a guy who played magic for fun did not care about W and L cause I know I don't know enough about magic, and this happened at FNM.
We did have a tourney with the butt crack guy. He destroyed everyone that night. (No seriously he played everyone and most matches were over in 6 turns.)
For me it'd have to be the "Pure Control" guy the one who you literally have a seat until you lose because you can't do any thing. It's one thing to run control against a top tier net deck, it's another to run it against a deck I literally just built and decided to test it at Fmn (haven't went to one yet cause I work nightshift) so now not only do I feel the deck doesn't run I feel that way because all you did was shut it down while doing 1 damage for almost a full hour. I've literally had to start adding "Anti- Control" to my decks just so I don't have to worry about it at the casual tournament I play at
for number 2 we have a guy with a medical condition thats causes him to smell and deoderant and cologne doesnt stop it but we dont give him a hard time about it last guy who did got banned from the shop
+Rebecca Latty sounds like a coworker of mine, its from his meds after massive surgery. u kind of just learn to deal with it. being a smoker kind of helps temporarily dull my sense of smell after a smoke XD
i dont know if u came accross a diff type of player i hate is the i cant afford to play mtg type person so they come up with a deck that costs like $20(which is fine) however get really sour when they go 0-5 and piss on everyone who beat them cause they had more expensive cards.
my lgs's smelly guy only sometimes shows up (at least the Uber smelly guys) although from time to time from due to no fault of my own sometimes feel like I might be the smelly guy.
when i went to FNM i was always just happy to play even if the only win i got was just due to the draw like the person i was suppose to play just did not show up.
I beat two different Tron decks back to back with my Samurai deck once. They were both salty cause Emmy wasn't the Auto win they expected. Lost to burn and affinity though lol.
Great video. One comment about your #0: this isn't really about the players, but it's the host of the event. They can't split the 1st and 2nd prizes if the event host doesn't award them because a legal winner has not been determined. So, yeah, it's obnoxious behavior to refuse to finish the tournament, but it's enabled by the guy in charge.
OH! YOU KNOW WHO'S ANNOYING? THAT ONE PLAYER WHO COMPLAINS THAT HE LOST BECAUSE HE WAS MISSING ONE OF HIS MANA COLORS! Case in point: I was playing against an Orzhov Zombie token deck with an Izzet Prowess and I basically boardswung for lethal (I said, quote, "I'm not gonna count that"). He then revealed his hand and started ranting about how if he had just *one* more white mana, he would have destroyed me. I Meh'd him away, but I've been wary of his temper since
As an unholy death knight whose sole existence is to spread plague and disease to everyone, you made me sad. I can't help that my rotting flesh smell bad and my aura causes the plague of undeath wherever I go.
I feel like that there should be more competitive players that want to have fun instead of trying to win at all costs. I love having fun, but it isn't fun if it isn't competitive. They go hand in hand for me.
an expansion on number Zero would be the people Who "lock up" top 8 by both drawing so they both make it instead of playing it out and one of them cannot make it now. Those people NEEED to stop playing
I’ve been number seven. It makes it worse in hindsight since I probably would have lost. It was the third game in the round and I was about four turns fro losing. Sorry to whoever it was I was playing.
The thing about people who qualify is that nobody can observe in third person view to see if they are behaving as such. Most people are good and would change their ways. But like you say, some people are bad people who need to go away and find another hobby.
I'm number 4's evil twin; I build decks that I know are flawed but don't really care because I really like the cards in it and don't mind losing. Ironically, I can still scrounge a win here and there in unexpected fashion XD
The only #2 I will accept are those who just got off work where they do physical activity and didn't have time to change or shower, I've been this guy being in the military trying to rush to FNM right after a field mission
I've showed up wearing my dirty work clothes quite a bit. But I keep deodorant, mouthwash, and body spray in my bag so I don't offend anyone. Hell, I even put a towel down on my seat so it stays clean.
Ha I remember running into one like number 3 back in the day during onslaught. Mirarris wake rotates out and I had seen how mana ramp made a deck fast and was still a bit fresh with only a year or two playing the game So I decided to see what kind of mana ramp was in green and ended up running a deck with big beasties kahmal biorythm and my favorite in that deck was plated slagworm mythic proportions A net decker thumbed thru it and couldn't figure out the purpose of the deck......uh derp ramp out mana and throw down big creatures by turn four or five when normally they would hit on turn 8 or 9 Bet that very same kid if he still playing has been net decking the ramp decks and probably feeling stupid if he even remembers lol
i use to work fridays every week for the longest time and hated it cuz i couldnt go to fnm, now that i have fridays open i never go. after going to my lgs and playing a few fnm's ive come to the conclusion its not worth my time. ide rather throw money at mtgo these days rather than actually support my lgs. the players there are for the most part are the typical "im the best" people. even as a fairly long term mtg player ive lived in enough areas and have come accustom to a certain way people act. you cant avoid a store having atleast 1 "im the best, win more ra ra ra" guy but to have the majority of the store be that is absurd. and since the closest thing to a judge in sight is just one of those guys, trying to make a complaint about cheating or issues with rules like for instance delve when it first came out is near impossible since they always side with the other "win more" guys. worse yet the shop owner wont do shit since there his primary customer base even though there the ones pushing a huge potential mass of players out. its gotten to the point you cant even buy most cards until fnm if your lucky since the shop owner doesnt place anything out until his "prime buyers" come in during fnm, and even then he will hold a huge amount of stock back until specific people come in. hes outright told me and shown me the insane amount of must have cards in binders he wont put out until that specific crowd arrives, even if they plan on spending nothing the owner refuses to sell it to anyone else who isnt an every week fnm player.
Netdecking is actually why I walked away from MTG and tournament play; I wasn't going to spend hundreds of dollars on the flavor-of-the-block deck just to be viable, only to have to redo everything when a new set dropped. It also irked me as a newer player (who was steadily gaining experience and tweaking my own deck to something passable) to see the top 2 get into what should be the highlight of the evening, only to split earnings before the 1st match. It was always the same two guys, they were always running the same net decks, and it really did sap the fun right out of the game. Worse, it became harder and harder to play a casual game with anyone as no one really had their own custom decks any more; everyone started running proven netdecks in CASUAL games, most likely to make up for the impossibility of winning at the local FNM scene. At the end of the day, I realized I could either spend all of my spare time and a ton of extra money to get onto the 'next level' and *maybe* win a few extra packs at FNM, or I could walk away. I gave my entire card collection to my brother in law (sans two decks) and haven't looked back since.
I've been playing for a couple of months, and finally won 1 pack during the Kaladesh prerelease :D then I won 2nd place in last FNM. :D I hate it when people try to cheat because I'm new, at least they used to, although they still try. I actually learned how the game works, so now when they try to cheat, they just act dumb like if they attack me with a 1/1 double strike while I have a 2/2, they say that the double strike hits me twice either way, when my 2/2 kills it the first time they attack witihin the double strike, and after they do this mistake 3 separate instances, I realized that they actually are just acting dumb, or do not like learning in order to try to get an advantage.
Also now that I'm actually into the game, I'm actually really grateful to my friends because they gave me card sleeves, dice, pretty good rares, a planeswalker, and a lot of packs because we had some private mtg drafts in their house. Also my first card I had ever gotten was Jace, Unraveler of Secrets which was the rare in my first pack, and I didn't know what it was during the draft, but because the people around me were my friends, they helped me make my first deck within draft. So I am really grateful towards my friends who gave me free things to start playing magic.
#3 - then everyone clapped
It's funny because I just recently got involved in Magic after about a 10-year hiatus and when deciding what deck to build, I noticed a lot of zombie cards in the latest expansions, so I decided to build a zombie deck. Well, turns out it's the #2 biggest standard meta deck at the moment. Damn, guess I'm a net decker now.
im still playing with my standard zombies tribe 🤘
And then Crimson Vow Zombies precon was unleashed (2021)
can you do a top ten great people to run into at fnm?
I guess it's kind of off topic but does anybody know of a good website to watch new movies online?
@Emilio Kasen Try flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
We've got a smelly dude but he's the nicest person you've ever met and he is an amazing player
They usually are. Just tell them kindly to take a shower before they come, put on fresh clothes instead of talking behind their backs. Like, how are you expecting any change if you don't adress it? And blaming them for spreading diseases, then going on about health care etc... You know, logical conclusions.
When did Ross from Friends start playing Magic?
+Michael Hamilton I cannot unhear that now!
"I'm too cool to have fun" people? you mean every blue player ever?
A mental picture of individual people at my lgs pop into my head whenever you talk about a subtype. Is that bad?
Hhaha, I always close my eyes and say "Heart of the Cards" Whenever I'm losing. I usually still lose lol.
Yeah yugi wins because he's a CHEATER!!! Lol
MTG❤❤❤
Alexandre Stoyanov by netdeck he means top tier decks from tournaments.
Subbing. New MTG Player here.
#3 You just lost because you didn't _believe on the heart of the cards_! /jk
CaitSeith stop
FUCK YES #6! #6 SMACKDOWN!! #2 - When you go home SMELLING LIKE THE SMELL Y GUY BECAUSE YOU SAT ACROSS THE TABLE FROM HIM!!! I'm starting to think "STANK" is a playing strategy.
Oh man! Here's a fucking classic one:
Dude on his phone
"Don't worry I'm not being rude I'm just arranging a trade!"
#2: how about those coming straight to fnm from work when they work in fields such as emergency medicine, fire, or Construction?
Understandable but please put on some deodorant or cologne before walking in. Keep it in your car
At my old LGS, people told me a really cool way that a lot of people do the split the packs thing:
When the record is the same and you're bound to get the same record, not necessarily the victory record, ask the split the packs and just play a casual game.
Matthew Lucera yeah I agree with you on this, I personally see no problem with splitting prize packs and I think that no.0 is a personal gripe
Number 0 is basically "people who are better than me", the foundation of this list.
@ 9:53, LMFAO. what you said was funny, but How you said it that killed me
I went third on a Standart FNM with a self-built propably tier 3 "Mardu Ally Deck" bevore the SoI release and destroyed "Abzan Aggro" easily with Infinite Obliteration (exiled Anafenza on Turn 3 with I.O and then Crackling doomed each siege rhino he played, if I didn't get one of my other two I.O. for Turn 4) ...
VORTHOS HERE ^_^
I got a Garruk/Nissa/MorningTide Deck with BACK STORY BB :D
My gosh, this is the best... I would go play mtg in those post apocalyptic machete fights
do you think you can top 8 a modern gp without a net deck?
In regards to number 4: SaffronOlive @mtggoldfish had an opponent on a stream tell him that playing instants on your opponents turn is pretentious. The guy lost to Seth because he only played burn spells on his own turn. Lol.
There can be rare exceptions for #2. I suffered from smelling bad when I didn't know I had cancer. I showered everyday and still had people say I smelled bad but like I said rare exceptions.
About number 2, some of us work physical jobs and get off needing to race to fnm or we don't get to make it.
Now those who don't than yea I see your point
But I know my job can be physically demanding and cause me to sweat and smell after work and typically I have no time to scrub if I want to make it to even a draft on fnm that starts at 8.
You are by far my favorite mtg CZcams.
+omar aguitre I hope you're not Steve Harvey and you're gonna be like "oh crap, I mean the card said Channel Fireball"
I'm assuming when Des said he was the first half of number 4, he was nodding at the Banana Deck.
His explanation of number 4 sums me up pretty well. The only difference being that I don't tell people they have terrible decks.
I like my FNMs the community is very nice and we all get together and everyone is happy to be there. soooooo. yeah
+Logan Christiansen I'm coming to your LGS next week then lol
lol, I have the same type of community
Same
Do you know what game store desalator magic goes to
What annoys me as a new player, the people winning are the net deckers, so they have stupid amounts of money to buy a deck, yet they’re the ones taking the prizes that they can afford to buy anyway, if you don’t have the money to buy a top tier net deck, chances are those packs are a lot more useful to you, but you’ll never get to win them because you can’t afford to buy a pay-to-win deck...I guess what I’m trying to say is the prizes end up going to the person who needs them the least thus keeping them out of the hands of someone who’s worked really hard to build a deck that’s competitive because they could really use those few packs, thus the richer player keeps the poorer player from ever truly closing the gap in their advantage 😕
If I put a coat of arms in a tribal deck, say, zombies, and I just use what cards I have, is it still a bad deck?
To people saying netdecking is fine, it may be fine if you’re trying to make the pro tour but I think you should play what you want to if you’re just a casual player. If you are just playing fnm or whatever don’t netdeck it just makes you look bad because people are mostly playing fun decks at these.
Number 6 it may not take away from their focus but I hate people who have headphones in and don’t even converse with their opponent and are kind of in their own little world
When you were talking about the guy who said his deck was better than yours was bad, it reminded me of another type of a person you should add and those are the people who whether they win or lose always say that their deck is betterI remember I beat an opponent pretty badly one time and I heard him talking to his friend right afterwards saying how his deck was so much better and he made one play that would’ve changed at all which wasn’t true of course.
It could be a nervous habit but I think more likely it's something that actually helps keep people focused.
: 2x asylum visitor
4x heir of falkenrath
3x stromkrik condemned
4x Olivia's bloodsworn
3x drana, liberator of malakir
3x Olivia, mobelized for war
3x excuisite firecraft
4x falkenrathgorger
2x titan's strenght
2x Lightning axe
3x collective brutallity
4x fiery temper
8 swamp
9 Mountains
4x forboding ruins
2x geier reach sanitarium
I am currently considering cutting one Mountain or one geier reach for one asylum visitor becouse I lost a few games only pulling land when I needed a creature or a burnspell Please respond ^^
Matt Hoowantstono a
Matt Hoowantstono very true. stupid u g o players. and yes I dont have the time to look up how to spell that. I don't care.
And my friends wonder why I switched to MTG
+Dylan Hanrahan I made a video about it :D
czcams.com/video/Bf6MYyOojBw/video.html
Cheers! Great video, really helps give a place to start!
I have the bad breath due to an illness and lack of insurance for a long time..
from what you have said i fit into the 0 category. i understand your perspective but i normally split at the end when i make it that far because i honestly am afraid i am going to loose and am very happy to be insured 8 packs instead of a 50% chance of getting 10 or 6 packs, i have done this several times at my store and have been able to continue it because the people at the top have said no to me about 3 or 4 times and i got really lucky and won all 4 times so now they agree just about every time. this is a strategy game and if my strategy is to eliminate the risk and get a high amount of packs i see no problem with it.
21:42 xD he sounds like social repose from the"different types of emos" video
Can we see some of your decks?
I went to standard the other week and there were only 6 of us so we had a friendly 3 round tournament, 4 of the other players were playing the GW token deck that topped the pro tour. I have a bad match up against that deck, I'm a new-ish player so I suck at making a sideboard, I had no fun that night
the people who always say: "You're wrong because that's not what pro tour does"
there was someone at my LGS who genuinely said to me, homebrews are not real decks. then proceeded to lose to 2 in a row.
Sorry.
+desolatormagic is there any way i could email you a copy of a new deck i built to get your advice on it?
I love it when your playing a person, but the whole time their not even talking and they either winning and just walking away, or when they lose they just storm off
Desolator Magic how do you feel about magic players that had to learn magic online and when he played with buds in Highschool got made fun of when he did not understand How a card revolves? I am a guy who played magic for fun did not care about W and L cause I know I don't know enough about magic, and this happened at FNM.
I don't have access to a LGS to play FNM but i would think a moocher would be hated in any group playing any collectible card game.
We did have a tourney with the butt crack guy. He destroyed everyone that night. (No seriously he played everyone and most matches were over in 6 turns.)
net decking is the bane of my existence, all of my decks are home brewed
Lol the #3 guy. "I hope he's dead actually." Followed by "The smelly guy". Fking classic!
I've literally had to start adding "Anti- Control" to my decks just so I don't have to worry about it at the casual tournament I play at
I have only ever Itentionally Drawn at a tournament once, and it's because I was staying with my friend and we didn't want to risk missing our bus.
for number 2 we have a guy with a medical condition thats causes him to smell and deoderant and cologne doesnt stop it but we dont give him a hard time about it last guy who did got banned from the shop
One of the best mtg youtubers. Love it man, keep up the good work!
my LGS breeds a competitive group. a lot of pro tour kinds of folks. It sucks but its the only store in 100 miles so the air is always competitive.
I run into trouble with number 10 with children. I had a child ask me if he could have my 200 dollar commander deck. HAVE!! Not borrow.
Mirarris wake rotates out and I had seen how mana ramp made a deck fast and was still a bit fresh with only a year or two playing the game
So I decided to see what kind of mana ramp was in green and ended up running a deck with big beasties kahmal biorythm and my favorite in that deck was plated slagworm mythic proportions
A net decker thumbed thru it and couldn't figure out the purpose of the deck......uh derp ramp out mana and throw down big creatures by turn four or five when normally they would hit on turn 8 or 9
Bet that very same kid if he still playing has been net decking the ramp decks and probably feeling stupid if he even remembers lol
hey desolator, here's a suggestion for a list: the guy who always wins and flips a table the one time they loose
I agree I am sometimes on my phone but only f I get a text from my mom or something like that
#0 is not cheating or against the rules. You can internally draw in magic. Happens at competition all the time.
i use to work fridays every week for the longest time and hated it cuz i couldnt go to fnm, now that i have fridays open i never go. after going to my lgs and playing a few fnm's ive come to the conclusion its not worth my time. ide rather throw money at mtgo these days rather than actually support my lgs. the players there are for the most part are the typical "im the best" people. even as a fairly long term mtg player ive lived in enough areas and have come accustom to a certain way people act. you cant avoid a store having atleast 1 "im the best, win more ra ra ra" guy but to have the majority of the store be that is absurd. and since the closest thing to a judge in sight is just one of those guys, trying to make a complaint about cheating or issues with rules like for instance delve when it first came out is near impossible since they always side with the other "win more" guys. worse yet the shop owner wont do shit since there his primary customer base even though there the ones pushing a huge potential mass of players out. its gotten to the point you cant even buy most cards until fnm if your lucky since the shop owner doesnt place anything out until his "prime buyers" come in during fnm, and even then he will hold a huge amount of stock back until specific people come in. hes outright told me and shown me the insane amount of must have cards in binders he wont put out until that specific crowd arrives, even if they plan on spending nothing the owner refuses to sell it to anyone else who isnt an every week fnm player.
Like playing a destroy target creature power 3 or greater on a 2 power creature.
