  • The Daintree Rainforest is a tropical rainforest region on the north east coast of Queensland, Australia, north of Mossman and Cairns. At around 1,200 km2 (460 sq mi), Daintree is the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent. Along the coastline north of the Daintree River, tropical rainforest grows right down to the edge of the sea.

The oldest rainforest on earth 10 million years older than the Amazon, the whole of Gondwana was once covered in this rainforest and this tiny bit in far North Queensland is pretty much all that's left of it.

    Pov: what
1: The whole of Australia looked like millions of years ago
2: Antarctica looked like millions of years ago
Man Sad that this Ancient Australian Rainforest remains on the coast. If it never changed Australia whould be also the top place for undiscovered species aswell as produced so much type's of Rainforest. Either way in a few millions of years later Australia will become green again.

I tought Australia only was dry with eucalyptus trees and try trees. At least that's the description people give when they talk about Megalania being extinct today because it has no place to live because humans burned down their rain forrests 40000 years ago.

Australia is indeed a dry, desert country. However there is a small strip in Far North Queensland that gets a lot of rain and has a tropical climate. We call it the Wet Tropics. It's not typical of most of the country, although we do have wet rainforest patches here and there around coastal regions..

It's a temperate forest though. Australia does not have tropical rain forests as they only appear around the equator.

      What's the difference?

    • @ROCdevelopments

The temperature! A tropical rainforest is much hotter than a temperate. They even have temperate rainforests in Alaska and Northern Europe.

Wrong!! Australia does have tropical rainforest! It's in Queensland Australia, and while its small its also the oldest rainforest in the world! FACT....

@@ROCdevelopments I live in Queensland right near the Daintree I know what it is and its classed as a tropical rainforest! And yes it's a sesonal rainforest same as parts off the Amazon but to say its not a tropical rainforests is redicliouse! It is NOT a Temperate rainforest and you need to do some research buddy! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queensland_tropical_rain_forests
