people in the comments talking about how Trina is wrong for the way she reacted...i watched that scene a couple times and i'm on Trina's side. People like to think the way to bring someone out of pain is by offering sweet little platitudes, in this case about how "God will take care of you", but like, at the end of the day, you cannot tell someone how they should feel about anything they're going through. It is VERY intrusive and self-aggrandizing to come in and tell someone they're gonna be "good" or that you prayed their pain away or something. This woman didn't know who Trina was, claimed that a prophet came to her about a "woman celebrity" (which could have been ANYONE), and continued being vague about how this celebrity was "going through things" like duh, EVERYONE "goes through things"; That's a common tactic for these fake prophets: being vague and letting the other person fill in the blanks for themselves, then patting themselves on the back as if they did something. She came in expecting to be the hero and that Trina would react a certain way but thats all fake af; You just spent your first meeting with her making it all about YOU and how God spoke to YOU and about how YOU and God were gonna deliver her from evil or something. what do you have specifically for Trina to let her know you get it?
It is not up to YOU how someone processes things, ESPECIALLY something as deeply personal as losing a parent/family member; you can be there for someone and support them and let them know you got them, but you can never just tell someone it'll go away and they';ll get over it.
Not to mention, they decided the best way to do this was to put Trina on the spot with an "intervention", which would be broadcast to millions (and most likely already knowing, since this is coming from Trina's COUSIN, that she hates surprises). As much as we want to help people and take their pain away, you cannot truly 'help' someone until they're willing to help themselves and that is a decision that has to come from Trina. Am I saying they should just not do anything and let Trina 'suffer'? Absolutely not. But this was not it, especially with someone like Trina who takes it VERY personally.

I'm sure joy had the right intentions but sometimes those kind of platitudes can come off as intrusive and condescending. I don't know trina's religious background, but if she's not a spiritual person, this choice is even more bizarre. They should have let trina process her pain in her own time and space.

@@Agju I think its the fact that people are uncomfortable around grieving people and want them to just hurry up and get over their pain so that they go back to being normal. Thing people don't realise is that grief changes people on such a fundamental level even after you've healed enough to start your life again
When my grandmother died the last thing i wanted to hear was "God called her to a better place" because its dismissed the fact that all I wanted was for her to be here with me again.

@@vday16 you're preaching to the choir. you get into this place where ANY "positive message" or attempt at comfort, while well-meaning, seems like a betrayal of how you're really feeling. If you'll permit me to use another analogy, it's like when someone says, "I don't see race/color" when referring to POC. It SOUNDS okay on paper and you can see what they were going for, but when you look past the surface, people who say that are glossing over the lived-in stories, the resentments and pains, of being black/brown/yellow/purple/whatever. To say you don't see color is to ignore the stories of POC, just like someone telling Trina, or people like Trina, that "you prayed for them and God will take their pain away" is conveniently trying to gloss over their very real stories/experiences that a grieving person goes through.
It reminds me of a scene from the UK edition of Big Brother. A male contestant was told that his grandmother had passed and he decided to leave the competition. As he was going about the house, people kept saying the usual things like "at least she's in a better place" and "she lived a long full life" but he responded with stuff like "No, she lived a tough life and its not like living longer made it better" (i'm paraphrasing).
so TL:DR, people need to understand that they have give others their space and learn how to support someone without making it about them. I am definitely with Trina here; this is her experience, these are her feelings, and none of these shenanigans are going to fly.
I understand Trina is grieving, but she is very disrespectful and controlling to everybody around her!! They always seem scared of her…You don’t play with God, and Prayer can change anything. So for her to say God, prayer, or nothing in the world can change the way she’s feeling speaks volumes of her character. I hope The Lord shows her his strong hand because everybody needs a relationship with him.

Right. Like I lost my mom and grieving is different for everyone, and I agreed with Trina, the pain never goes away. My grandma struggles with pain everyday it never goes away. HOWEVER, don’t turn away people that try to help. I think Trina is just angry right now. I don’t remember when her mom died but the way she talked she’s still very much angry and talking about her mom seems like a taboo topic right now. Sooner or later she will be able to discuss but I think they should just leave her alone because there’s no hope rn. Let her move on her own time
This! Prayer and God changes EVERYTHING. It doesn’t take the pain of grieving away fast, it takes time. But God will be there to comfort you every step of the way!
