    Fantastic video Gary we have been in for a treat without a doubt. I’m 47 years a mechanic and I can see why the parts cannon was fired on this vehicle indeed I probably would have guilty myself but to a lesser extent. Your skill set knowledge and investment in equipment is plain to see ‘ even a good garage with good mechanics can’t really be expected to carry out such in-depth analysis as your self we can’t do it all anymore you sir are indeed a specialist. Have watched the video twice hope there’s a part 2

    Fantastic video Gary. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The higher hourly rate for your professional excellence in diagnostics is less than the much higher cost throwing the parts cannon at the vehicle and high cost of labour hours spent trying to diagnose the fault, not to mention losses of reduced vehicle turnover and unhappy customers . Excellent video mate and very nicely explained, just shows what skills and tooling you actually need to diagnose faults.
    Too many techs now just rely on what a code reader is telling them what is or could be faulty - needless replacement of parts at great expense to the customer chasing faults.....diagnosis by substitution!.
    After all that testing I'd be very suspicious of the engine timing too especially if the belt has been off to change the fuel pump, timing a tooth out? 🤔

      Thanks for the input. There’s no history of cam belt failure, the owner has had van from new.
      Also if it had suffered cam belt failure causing the lines to spin I’m pretty sure it would not be affecting all cylinders.

  • @rukass1
    @rukass1 Před rokem

    this happens because of a slightly open egr! it was interesting to see the amount of air measured by the maf, if it is low it causes a low diesel injection not enough to start the engine until the cylinders increase in temperature!

    • @intelligentauto737
      @intelligentauto737  Před rokem +1

      The EGR is fine, if in fact the EGR was sticking open there would be Driveability issues, excess turbo lag.

    I'd suspect the glow-plug system initially, just because. I'd be measuring the actual amps being drawn by the control module as the engine cranks, on the glow-plug control module feed wire using a clamp meter. If it is any lower than 50 amps then there is a plug issue even if there supposedly isn't a plug issue. Clamp meter onto the + feed of the plug module - see is it drawing close to 50 amps - if it isn't, the plugs are kaput or the plug feeds are bad. Because the parts cannon was fired up, I'd be doing some serious staring at the plug control module, the plugs, the wiring to the plugs & all the grounds related to the plug system.. I may be dead wrong, but that's my guess before seeing what the actual fix is - it'd be boring otheriwise. God loves a guesser. :-)
    Plus that's a PSA motor & they don't like getting out of bed unless a fire is lit under their backsides first thing in the morning.. from experience. No plugs glowing - no startey, no matter how hard you curse. Just my 2c. :-) Once started, they then re-start fine all day - PLUGS.
    I'm prolly dead wrong.. :-)

    is it possible the cam lobes twisted on this engine had it had cam belt replace in the past due to breaking AS NOW VERY COMMON FAULT but its very low milage is it genuine ,also heard tow starting cars can cause this problem if starter motor had gone as due to slack in belt then attempt tow start can cause excessive strain on belt in wrong position thus put strain on cam but not crank myth or not ,,as manufacture specify do not tow start modern cars for this exact reason ,this could be the fact that cars now have dual mass flywheel allow a rocking motion unlike a constant pressure using a starter motor this in turn allows the belt to loosen tighten loosen causing timming issues allowing valves to hit pistons ,as said a myth or not ,but manufactor believe this is an issue
