Great video MD! However I just noticed in video, you didnt know why is sponge filter is good for shrimp. Its good becouse shrimp can climb on the sponges and eat biofilm, which is really important for shrimp. Even newborn shrimp eat only biofilm (biofilm is slimy coating
made of bacteria). This is why is sponge filter great for keeping shrimps and it sometimes really help newborn shrimp babies to survive :) I have sponge filter in all of my 9 shrimp breeding tanks. (Sorry for my english, i am only 15 y.o. and I am still learning and its not my native language)
Yes this! And also baby shrimp can get sucked up into the filter and not be able to escape so sponges are used for that and the biofilm

@@silverword1913That's definitely most important. Yes, sponges make it easier for the microbiology to develop there, but it's not like baby shrimp would starve without them. In a properly cycled tank, there is biofilm on absolutely everything. Everything is alive!
At first I was skeptical about no substrate but the end result is amazing. I don't know how I love every set up you do
If I were him I would’ve put a thin layer of playsand (in a grey-ish color if possible, but not straight grey near the rocks and gravel and the more pure playsand in the open areas)
You know when youre going to bed and you stick some random recommended shit on and its usually some weird stuff about haunted places or top 10 times maccies messed up. This was one of those channels that i stuck on thinking imma fall asleep so fast, and now i stick around cause its not one of those weird channels, its fucking awesome. Im sticking around for the long run :)

I purchased one of your blue acara sweatshirts a couple years ago and love it! I have one electric blue acara I call Buster ,he follows me everywhere and if I’m sitting he perches on a rock closest to where I sit and watches. Such personality! been watching you since the beginning!
Hey MD! I think that white cloudiness wasn’t tannins from the wood, I think it was a bacterial bloom. it’s pretty common to get in a newly setup tank. my theory is that because you don’t have a substrate in here the bacteria didn’t have a good place to settle which led to the water being cloudier.
I understand where you are coming from and you can get a little cloudyness like that....but not like this. It was 100% from the wood and catappa leaves.
@@MDFishTanks the wood would have gave it a more tan or yellow color It was probly a mix of both.. looked like bacteria tho
@@MartinFireExotics I dont think the camera picked it up well. It was brown tinged. The day after it was even more brown. Yeah probably a mix of both. This was 4 days ago now. The tank is doing really well though.

@@MDFishTanks Shove a small bag of Seachem Purigen into the filter. I rarely ever presoak any wood in my tank and instead use Purigen. Never any tannin discoloration

Looks fantastic! I wouldn't recommend anybody rinsing gravel off into their sink though. Eventually that sediment is going to build up and clog your drain like cement. That's free from my plumber son.
If you made a shrimp hoodie I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Everything coordinates so well, and it turned out so visually appealing! You are the reason I have 2 nano shrimp tanks and have chosen only shrimp friendly tank mates for my 60 gallon tall!

Water is an accelerant (rather the hydroxyl ions in the water are), for the glue you are using. So you can spray water onto the contact points that have the glue, and it will harden almost instantly, and stronger than without water.
Been doing no substrate tanks for years. Never had a problem. On a side note tho, the motorized filters with those course filters will such up some shrimp larvae. I'd highly recommend airdriven fine spongefilters. Alternatively HMF.

I enjoyed this. It would be good if there was a channel that shows an hour of so of the critters moving around in one tank . I felt relaxed just watching the end section of the shrimp going about there time in the tank.

I never liked bare bottom tanks, so I was like meh, don't think I'm going to care for this built much...WRONG!! THIS is beautiful! To be fair to my dislike of bare bottom tanks, all that I have ever seen have been totally bare bottomed. What you did is beautiful and such a fresh and clean look.

I know you’ve explained your system here and there, but I can’t seem to find one with all the details in one video. Can you please make a updated video that’s dedicated to just your water change set-up? How it works, the equipment and accessories used, any modifications you had to make, what you like and don’t like about it, etc. Just permanently pin that video to the description section on all your videos coz it’s going to get referred to a lot.
