- Banned In The U.S.A. - Track 1
Government of the people
For the people
By the people
[News reporter]:
Earlier today in Broward County,
appalling courtjudges upheld the previousruling
to ban the sale of Miami rap group the 2 Live Crew's double-platinum album,
"Nasty As They Wanna Be," in Broward County.
[Someone else commenting]
"We think it's the banning of free speech.
First Amendment protects material, resultably."
Luke (being interviewed):
"We don't talk about, uh, harrassing and sexually brutalizing women in my music, man!"
"We don't do that in my music, man! I'm tired of you saying that!"
Verse 1: [Fresh Kid Ice]
We've got white-collar people trying to grab our style
Saying we're too nasty and we're 2 Live
Corrupted politicians playing games
Bringing us down to boost their fame
They must be joking thinking we will fall
But they're like flies movin' the wall
We stand tall from beginning to end
With the help from fans and all our friends
Freedom of speech will never die
For us to help, our ancestors died
Don't keep thinking that we will quit
We'll always stand and never sit
We're 2 live, 2 black, 2 strong
Doing the right thing, and not the wrong
So listen up, y'all, to what we say
We won't be banned in the U.S.A.!
Chorus: (3x)
Banned in the USA, I was
[Reporter]:
"Luke's concerts are for adults"
[Luke] (being interviewed):
"If it's an adult show you have to be 18"
"Our record is a year old, but with all the publicity,
there's a lot of people ... curiosity is around!"
"We're selling records to a totally different audience."
"I take a precaution that nobody else has not stickered my album, I made
TWO versions, two versions two versions.."
Verse 2: [Brother Marquis]
The First Amendment gave us freedom of speech
So what you sayin'? It didn't include me?
I like to party and have a good time
There's nothin' but pleasure written in our rhyme
I know you don't think we'll ever quit
We've got some people on our side who won't take your lip
We're gonna do all the things we wanna do
You can't stand to see a brother get as rich as you
This is the 90s and we're conin' on strong
Sayin' things and doin' things that you're sayin's wrong
Wisen up, 'cause on Election Day,
We'll see who's banned in the U.S.A.!
Chorus: (4x)
The United States of America
Government of the people
The United States of America
For the people
The United States of America
By the people
By the people
[Luke] (being interviewed):
"The show in Hollywood, that was for 21-and-over people,
they had police out there, cars of the people coming in the club,
and they still arrested us for performing in front of adults!"
[Luke] speech:
What is this??
Is this not America?
This is not China!
This is not Russia!
This is not the place where they brought down the wall, this is America!
We have the right to say what we want to say,
we have the right to do what we want to do,
and what I do in my house, you might not do in your house!
So what I do in my house is my business!
And the simple fact of it all is that we are BONDED by the First Amendment!
We have the freedom of EXPRESSION!
We have the freedom of CHOICE!
And you, Chinese, black, green, purple, Jew,
YOU have the right to listen to whoever you want to, and even the 2 Live Crew!
So all you right-wingers, left-wingers, bigots, Communists,
there IS a place for you in this world!
Because this is the land of the FREE, the home of the BRAVE!
And 2 Live is what we are! - Hudba
Oh the irony: 2 Live Crew's biggest chart hit has absolutely no profanity.
This was popular because of what was going at the time Tipper Gore and other democrats attack freedom of speech from ozzt to twisted sister to 2 live crew. These was about getting laid , meanwhile easy and the boys were rapping a murder rape slinging crack Rock lol
Just shows they are artists period.
This was not there biggest hit we want some p&%sy was
@@kearnal2010 "Me so H*rny" was a lot bigger than that song sorry to say.
The fact that Bruce Springsteen let 2 Live Crew Sample "Born In The USA" for free......For all the things The Boss has done the last 2 decades, he will always have my respect for that.
This song is probably more relevant today than it EVER was. 🔥
Your damn right my friend
What about “Pop that p*ssy?”
Damn true right there.
Even facts are banned these days because somebody, somewhere who sits on the anointed side of a political agenda might feel offended....
Absolutely with the fascist book banners.
I saw 2LC twice, back in college. I hadn't heard this song since its release, some 30 years ago. Brought me to tears. Regardless of their crazy tunes back then, the lyrics to this song still ring true today. I don't care if you're lib/con/black/white/brown/yellow/purple/green...Don't like it, don't listen! Long live the 1st Amendment, and FUCK Censorship!
You are right. Ironic freedom of speech and expression is such a huge issue today.
I haven’t heard this song since the 90s. Watching this video on this morning in 2023 made me cry for all the good people who have been rolled over by the machine.
Most patriotic song ever 🇺🇸
You're hot
Here in 2020. Still love 2 Live Crew
2021 still love 2 live crew
2021
Here from Germany
2023
@@maximan4363 That's because they put together the most pro-constitutional hip hop song ever made.
It's even more relevant now than ever
Wow! Memories at their best! They ran these dudes through the ringer and 2 live crew slapped them in the face with the Constitution! What a great song...Even today
Right the hell on!
Uncle Luke's an old fart now, but I love that dude.
Now we have Tom Macdonald. Just goes to show, the fight for freedom starts and ends with We The People. Not the military.
@@phillipstroll7385 How true that is! I'm 46 and my son got me listening to Tom McDonald. His eyes are open and Tom had definitely been red pilled somewhere along the way.
so ahead of its time
The most patriotic rap song ever made. Period.
.
Bruce Springsteen is definitely a real one for letting Uncle Luke get the sample off for this! JERSEY!!
And now the Boss is agains freedoms of speech
@@ricardoaguilar5031l
Nearly 30 years later!! I still know every lyric to this song. I listened to it every day when it came out.
Same 💪🔥
Well pin a rose on y'all's Joe Biden loving gun banning clowns nose!
Same!! Awesome track!! I bought this album when it came out and I still can't believe that it doesn't get the respect it deserves! Props 2 Live!!!
this was sooooo long ago and holds true more than ever!!!! Ain't even about white or black no more!!
Now they are pushing 100 genders for children, yet the public can't say a word about it. That's HUGE socialism that came down fast.
This should be Trump's campaign song. People know not what they do. He's the first president in US history to follow the Constitution, to force countries to reimburse the USA for what they owe, the first president of and for the people, the only president to stand against the globalization of China and to stop the USA from becoming a communist nation. Look at what's happing now. There destruction of private property and the loss of private owned business. He's even trying to suspend the payroll tax. I hope Americans choose freedom. I how they realize there's a difference between equally of result and equality. I hope they realize equality of result isn't liberty.
@ WTAF do gêner identities have to do with socialism? Socialism is an economic system, not a code phrase for everything your ignorant ass doesn't like
January 6th 2021. This song is so true today!
The truth hurts brother
Song that rips on both left and right wing parties, I love it, anyone who decides that fate of other people is a dictator or a follower of a dictatorship
Luke came to the office where I worked in Miami for a deposition. We had 200 court reporters around Florida . I saw him first apparently and took him around to make proper introductions to all the girls. His belt buckle was open as he was coming from lunch. The office had a thrill and I escorted him to his appointment. Perfect gentleman. Peace and love.
there has never been a more appropriate time for this video to be shared on social media... lol glad to do it
Who would think this song would hold so much weight in 2022..
Me
2023! Its on my itunes hand-picked playlist
Cause shit don't change, kiddos
This is one of those old videos i saw as a 5 yo kid and fully understand now
The first Hip Hop Song I've ever heard in Germany, then Vanilla Ice. Timeless masterpiece, I love it.
the heroes we need in 2022. these younger generations dont know how much we had to fight to freely express ourselves.
Yeah my generation is so ready to throw away the rights fought extremely hard for just to feel good and not hear anything that they may disagree with
2 live crew for president
government of the people, by the people, for the people,
A masterpiece. Legendary is an understatement
And it is worst today with cancel culture.
RIP Chris. So glad I got to see them perform a couple times live. It was just Brother Marquis and Fresh Kid Ice due to the Luke fallout, but they still rocked it and was a great show
I haven’t heard this song for a long time. Brings back memory!
35 years later PRICELESS
@3:47 says it all !! Embarrassing nowadays what some could of learned from then, and not do now...
This song will go down in infamy!!!!!!
I think the thing that pissed these cops and politicians off the most is that these guys were smarter and knew the law and the constitution a hell of a lot better than they did. They also had a much better attitude. "If it's not hurting anybody, why do you care?"
I was in high school listening to this. And love all their music. And still have the taps.
These guys knew back in 1989 what no one seems to know today...
Talk To Em🙏🏾🙏🏾.... You Ain't Neva Lied!!!
Wow. True classic!
Was thinking same thing, the LEFT needs to hear this
Rest in Peace, Brother Marquis
Nikki Minaj needs to thank 2 Live Crew for allowing her to say the foul stuff she says. If they didn't fight this moment, nothing would be Parental Advisory.
i remember when this was goin on
I lived through this case back in the day, all these years later.....still a fire trac.
Trump singing "banned in the social media"
2021 and we are riding strong
I take great honor into being a white man raised in a hood of black men and I am now a product of my environment and I am so very thankful I wasn't raised around white people
Jajajaja
I grew up with 80s to early 00s Hip Hop, how am I now just discovering this track?
You were on a different planet
2 love forever... Much love from old fan here. Oh and this song got some damn serious BASS.
Jah ruckus approves of this message!
2021 n here
The songs of black people have the right to sing what you want
2023 !!!! .... Still listening to this classic song 👀
2 live spitting knowledge...thats the difference from old school rap and todays stuffs.
love the sample they used from bruce springsteen's famous song 'born in the USA'
It’s hilarious that this song is actually more patriotic than “Born in the USA.”
@@adamsangry Bruce's born in the usa is a protest song. Criticism on the USA military industrial complex
@@georgekoo5886 this is also a protest song, in the same vein as Bruce's song
He was flattered by it
Real Hip Hop....

The 2 Live Crew Eazy e and N.W.A
We were those kids. 😂😂
I remember them being banned. My friend boot legend thier nasty as they wanna be tape for me. I was so sad when I lost the tape. I remember people getting pulled over for listening to it. Lmao. So happy to hear this old but great song.
Classic
That is true this is America you have the right to listen to whomever you want to and I remember when this song came out I played it long and I played it loud and I agree 100% with what they said they got banned because of their lyrics and their music they're not abusing women like some artist I'm not going to mention talk about raping and killing women and other things that are heinous they just sing about things they felt like singing about and to me I will listen to Live Crew and all these other great rappers because I don't see skin color I don't hear anything but music and if they want to use adult language in their music I say go right ahead because that's under the constitution of freedom of speech long live this great music by two Live Crew been long live all the other great rappers that came after 2 Live Crew as long as I can find this music I'm still going to be a huge fan God bless them all
This song, Banned in the U.S.A., was released on May 3, 1990, 2 Live Crew's lead single from their fourth album of the same name. "Banned in the U.S.A." was also released on the alternate version of the album, credited as Luke's debut solo album, titled The Luke LP. This song is a reference to the decision in a court case that the 2 Live Crew's album As Nasty as They Wanna Be was obscene. (The decision would later be overturned on appeal.) Bruce Springsteen granted them permission to sample/interpolate his 1984 song "Born in the U.S.A." for it. It contains a sample of a Ronald Reagan impressionist proclaiming the United States' government to be a government "Of the people, for the people, by the people."
This is the 2 Live Crew's biggest chart hit has absolutely no cussing, no profanity, no explicit lyrics. This was in 1990. About 32 years ago.
Those guys were right then. We have all but lost 1st amendment now.
Amen
Rip brother marques
