If so I would recommend checking in the forums since a ton of people have asked this question and if you use the search you are sure to find an answer. I will see about making a full Google apps tutorial to make this a bit more livable but it will take me some time.

The possibility of rooting is really the best reason for getting a XiaoMi Projector. Thank you for the video showing the steps in doing so!
Thanks for tutorial, but it's really worth mentioning allowing third party applications in projector settings besides USB debugging. In my case USB debugging was, is and stays on by default. After resetting to factory settings, going through all setup process, connecting and allowing third party apps made Magisk installation successful.

Thank you for the tutorial bro! At first everything worked out fine but after installing Magisk and starting the Projectivy Tools App it said "device not rooted" even though I changed the Accessibility settings.
Then I found out that I just had to change the superuser rights settings in the Magisk App, and I enabled the superuser rights for ProjecTivy Tools(also in the Magisk App).
After that it was finally rooted and all functions were unlocked.
Also extracting the ...batman zip did the trick for me, but maybe that was just a problem with my specific model...
Finally excited to see if the root may bring the input lag down to a enjoyable game experience!!!
If anyone knows some tricks how to bring down the input lag to a minimum please let me know :)
glad it worked, I gotta talk to spocky about the superuser thing bc it's supposed to ask you via pop up msg to grant those rights but it doesn't always come up. There should be a monitor mode you can select to drop the input lag you can also disable all processing in user mode. Also upgrade the firnware as the latest ones have lowered latency a bit as well
Where did you find that option in Magisk? i am still not rooted and i hope your solution might help me !
The biggest challenge was to find a cable mouse and an USB hub :D

Awesome tutorial and thanks so much for your guidance and tips. Finally got everything to work flawlessly. Trying multiple usb sticks did the trick for me as I was finally able to boot into twrp. Also faced error 127 while flashing magisk but was able to install magiak manager apk and then install patched the boot image. All good, neat and clean leanback ui. Thanks again, only question is that I hope the next Mi update doesn't affect this?
You need to roll back to stock launcher to install the newest firmware, that afaik is the only drawback
I have the sane problem. Fengmi 4K Projector. I get stuck with error 127 when flashing Magisk. I read that I have to mount the System partition as well. This stops the error 127, but it after boot it doesn't ask if I want to install magisk.apk
Any assistance would be appreciated
@@nicholascross1961 check your projector model on the forums one of the fengmi 4K models is not supported.

Oke, so all the newer versions of Magisk (evertything after version 21.4) don't have that zip file anymore, only the source ZIP. The source zip doesn't work when installing Magisk. So use the 21.4 version as in the vid and you should be good to go :) Also make sure your thumbdrive is FAT32 formatted. You can use Rufus if that needs to be done
Actually, the APK is a ZIP file. Just rename the file extension from .apk to .zip and it'll flash fine :)

For those trying to root Xiaomi Mijia Projector Youth Edition, I managed to install Magisk using the Magisk V.18 that comes with the TWRP (rainman) and instead of selecting USB Storage at the Mount menu, I selected Internal Storage, and selected all options (CACHE, SYSTEM, DATA, USB DRIVE). Maybe this helps someone. All the other things were done just like in the video.
Also, this may be a dumb question, but I can still install apks as I wish, not only through ProjecTivy Tolls, correct?

I could only install magisk v18, cause v23 said invalid zip file. However when I tried to update it from magisk app to v23 my device was not rooted anymore. Could you please help me out to avoid v23 to run invalid (error:127)? I have a xiaomi fengmi m055dcn.
if you want to root a batman device (in my case 4k 1s) you have to use magisk 21. x or lower or the magisk installation will fail every time !
Hi, thanks for the guide. All steps were successful, but after I installed google services and restarted the projector, ATV launcher was replaced by stock Android leanback launcher. Can I replace it with an ATV launcher by freezing it from Project Tivy Tools , but keep the play store and other google services?
I tried this and work for me - freez google leanback launcher from ProjectTvTool and set ATV to be prime launcher with HJ launcher, now home button is working again. Every gservices works fine to.
Hello everyone! Great video! I have a 4k mijia. Just learned about the new 11.1.4 samsung dolby atmos. Would love to hook it up and use the hdmi arc, but this projector does not decode dolby atmos even while using flagship Roku Ultra. The new succesor does allow dolby vision and atmos. Is there something we can install to help with this update and rip the already written software with out having to root? Maybe a simple apk? Is it the roku or projector? I'm content with OG software.

Please help...After the command "adb reboot update". I am getting a screen with title "THE MIJIA PROJECTION SYSTEM" and options to Reboot, Wipe Cache, Wipe User Data, Wipe All data and Restore System. I don't know what to do. How to get the screen with the slider.

Τhis guide has a big mistakle and a lot of people take a 127 error on magisk install. You have to mount USB AND SYSTEM in order the installation to procceed.

@@Official_Zenuh I don't think this root method applies at all. As for your issue that second forum link has very knowledgeable people who are in a better position to assist you. I'd check if there is an English translation method there and ask if you indeed need a fw update.
after all the steps, even if in twrp seams "done", after reboot there is no magisk there... I even tried version 18.0 and nothing. Can someone help please?
need more info, projector model, what firmware you are on. Did you check the pinned comment. Have you tried doing this 10x times because it can take that many tries or more before it takes. etc etc
@@cr4zyw3ld3r when I wrote the comment I was near 10... At the end I did on the next day. I tried again the 21.4 magistik version and it was installed. Then I installed also the tool and I was able to use it for a while. Then I had a black screen bug and I had to roll back to factory settings thru fastboot. I did 2 more tries and no luck for installing. And as I am lazy, thinking about a TV box 😅 any advice?

@@ys7098 I use either my xbox or my nvidia shield. But you have to keep trying the install and try different usb sticks, these projectors seem to be very particular about the type of usb used

sounds like a usb stick issue as I state in the beginning sometimes you have to try very many before it works
I tried to format the USB stick as FAT32 and then it start working for me. If you don't have this option in Windows. You may try this program: guiformat.exe

Hello, I'm not sure if the Lune has English menu options. You'd have to check online.
Ok so used the push method to copy the files to mi projector youth edition 2 (as doesn't work with any USB stick, and also have only 1 USB port), yet is still doesn't reboot on recovery.img or use twrp file. Any specific location to copy those files into?
i dont have one to check, but ask on the forum in the vid description. I would also recommend a keyboard that has a built in track pad and usb hub for dual usbs. That will give you more options.

Hey man, thank you for the video. I have followed all the guys and was successfully ADB connected to my xiaomi youth miproled1. I cant connect the mouse to use it as there is only 1 usb port. You said I need to use command push. Can you please elaborate on how to do it? Thanks

Thanks for the tutorial! I have some problems tho:
1) There is no "Instal Magisq" window after reboot, i had to go on USB and install it manually from APK
2) Later, i do not have those "Freeze apps" option etc. When i go into device info, in "Root Acces" it says "no".
What could i do wrong?
I found that installing Magick v18 first then updating to a later version fixes the root issue. So I would give that a shot.
Dear friend , i have xiaomi laser 150 projectoe. I already rooted for three years. Now i forget and press the update system. So project reset itself to update xiaomi firmware after run for 50%. It stop and reset automatic. Do you have solution for this matter?
you will need to factory wipe the projector. Then if needed run the update while still on stock rom. Then do the root. But I recommend checking the forum I linked to make sure that the new firmware does not block root.

I can see the apps within the play store when whenever i try to install an app from play store i get this error "Can't Instal app" Error code 910.

You need to check the forums there are some good replies there. However the general consensus for most people is due to outdated TVOS on these PJs the Google play ver they have is too old and thus a lot of things are broken. Hence why most use an Nvidia Shield, XBOX/Playstation or another modern Android/AppleTV device.

Thanks for the video. I recently purchased Xiaomi 4k 150" projector in 2023- it comes with stock mibox interface and everything runs pretty smoothly. My only issue is that it gives me very limited display setting such as keystone correction and focus. I can't find 3D or HDR or Resolution settings anywhere.

Resolution is in the engineering menu, HDR is probably not on your projector depending on model. 3D has also been removed on newer 4K models.

It does support HDR but not 3D. You are correct they removed it.

@faizi521 that's weird, I'd ask on the forum I linked the firmware creator knows more than I do.
@@faizi521 are you still on the Chinese UI? If so yes I recommend using the English UI the chinese menus even translated do not make a whole lot of sense unless you can read the language.
@@faizi521 also keep in mind that allowing HDR passthrough is not the same as presenting the content in HDR, my version of the projector will play HDR content but it does not actually display anything in HDR.

I have heard some usb hubs can work but you should search the forum I posted in video description. Pretty certain it has been answered there.
I had exactly the same problem and I found following workaround. Install some file manager app on projector and copy magisk directly into device memory. Boot TWPR from USB stick when screen slider screen appears plug off stick and plug in mouse. Probably all required files from stick are loaded into memory at the begging and there is no need to keep it pluged. The rest of process is the same as in video. I just done it on the same device model and it works.
how Did cr4zy do the switch from USB stick to mouse? He suggests in the video to just plug in your mouse, but there is only one USB port. I tried to unplug the stick then use the mouse, but then the menu was unselectable. I had to restart my projector and now it wont let me connect to ADB anymore i get a connection refused error.
@@Snowjockbc you need to search through the forum I posted in video description there is a solution for single usb projectors there. Alternatively try the method @Daniel Skup is suggesting above by copying the magisk files to internal pj storage. It will just mean that you will need to select internal storage vs usb when doing the final steps for root.
@@danielskup7485 can you show me how you mount internal storage. I had put magisk on Internal Storage by ES file manager but can't find in TWRP. Also try many hub.

As mentioned to many others it's likely usb stick incompatibility. You need to try many different sticks until one works.

after running the reboot update on ADB my projector goes on the Android recovery instead of the TWRP screen you show on video. Any idea why that happens or what to do next?
probably usb stick incompatibility, it cant find the files, the only solution is to buy a bunch of small capacity sticks and try, alternatively ask on the forum linked in description which ones worked for others.
I own the Xiaomi Short throw white 4k laser projector. I bought this projector back in 2018 to use for shows behind myself so there would be no shadow. I went to use it for a music video with my camera and literally, the SCAN LINES pulsing are so bad. It really shows even when I take my camera's Shutter speed all the way down to like 6 shutter speed, which is ridic. Do you or anyone know how to check or change the hertz if needed or maybe there is some other way to shoot this 24FPS with a regular or at least decent shutter?! I also had to do the android phone hack to get English in there and work the settings so I know it's giving me weird android information which is just confusing. Will this help me to do this and reroot the projector so I won't get the weird pink/green pulsing scan line? I see them just a little in this video which is not bad at all compared to mine on camera. I would be FOREVER GRATEFUL if so! Thanks

Thanks for the tutorial, but just won't root my Wemax A300. Tried a USB stick until one worked, but flash (11:28 mark in video) doesn't take upon reboot.
Sometimes it takes me 15 tries and diff version of magisk before it works unfortunately it's a bit of a crapshoot

After root procedure, the boot up time has been increased significally. Any ideas how to reduce it?
beyond switching the startup screen timer to a lower value in the engineering menu and using a different launcher unfortunately not much to more you can do. Your best bet is to ask the root creator on the forums I linked.
Hey, I have copied the zips files but its not showing them in the usb when I'm connecting to the projector, showing the apk files but not the zips that I have added, any idea?
are you talking about Magisk? that should be the only zip file on the usb the rest should all be apks, like I have said before you need to try many, many usb sticks until one works and make sure its correctly formatted. I went though at least 25 different usb sticks until I found one the projector liked and would boot the recovery from.
does this let you color calibrate the projector? also if at any point we want to install stock rom how to do that?
Yes via eng menu. You can use stock from from recoveey

No the rom isn't designed for those projectors

Yes you can set this option in projectivy app. I forget the exact steps now but you can check in the settings of the projectivy and you should find the option to auto boot to certain input

Unfortunately Alvin that model is not known to be supported at this time. However you can check with sp0cky the creator of the mod on the forums linked in video desc too see if he has it on his roadmap.
Magisk shows error 127 while installing and magisk manager doesn't show magisk. Please help
this is standard when the pj doesn't like the usb you are using, you need to try a lot of different brand ones and ideally 8gb or smaller. If the error persists then chances are high you might be doing something wrong during the process. You can ask for additional help on the forum I linked in video description.

I don't believe that you can. It would require a custom ROM. But you can ask on the forum in video description. As gor hdmi you really want to make sure that the ports on both devices are going using the correct spec. I don't think some hdr or very high reftesh signsls are supporyef by this pj.

hello I have read that some older Android TV OS systems are no longer supported by the Prime Video app and unfortunately I have not seen a workaround other than to use something like a firestick or game console and use the app on that instead. You might be better off asking on the forums I linked in video description.

At the ADB connect step, I don't have the USB Debugging popup prompting on my projector (but ADB manages to connect correctly).
When I do the restart right after, nothing after, I have a scary black screen and that's it the projector is stuck at reboot (which is corrected when I force shutdown and I restart).
What am I missing something here? How can I manage to connect ADB properly?
Did you enable usb debug from android menu earlier?

hmm got to mount section at 11min in.. however cannot tick "usb drive". clicking on the "select storage" shows USB drive (0MB). I guess this is what you meant for trying different sticks?

Check that model number against the known working models on the forum in vid description. Also try multiple diff usb sticks

Yes I have heard that you need to open up the PJ and trim down the plastic on the top part of the case as there are long riblets on it that push down into the video cable causing an issue like this. But if it's not that it may be that you are seeing a hardware issue. There is a guy working on a solution for us since sending it back to china is not really an option.

there is also a solution here using springs but I would not recommend it.

@@Tomtech29 unfortunately afaik opening the pj to fix is the only solution that's worked for folks on a number of forums. There are two manufacturing defects one with tall riblets that rest on the video cable and the DMD bracket bending from heat.
Hello, everything was working fine but somehow i think i changed some display setting (like some unsupported resolution) and now the projector just shows black and white cross bars, not even the boot logo....any guidance?
if this is happening during boot, then likely you will need to blow it away start fresh via the recovery menu. However some users have reported startup times of up to 15min which seems to affect some models.
@@cr4zyw3ld3r thanks so much for your reply. I have reset the device multiple times from the stock recovery and reflashed everything from scratch. Unfortunately, it does not get seem to be able to connect the Google authentication servers. If I try to sign into CZcams, it says unable to contact Google servers. Play store does not even show up within the list of available apps. Trying to install Google services from the "install third party apps" menu also fails. I feel there needs to be a compatible "zip package" for the Play services which can be flashed from TWRP...
@ashutoshsharma6302 yeah I gave up on trying to install Google play services bc projector hardware is pretty slow. I use an nvidia shield or my consoles for media playback instead. But if you want a solid fix the android forum post I linked in description should have enough active people to help you.

HI, my projector was working fine, but after sometime the HDMI ports are not being detected. Otherwise the projector is still working fine. Do you have any solution for it ? i guess it is a software issue rather than hardware as all other things on the projector is ok. Does this thing explained above solve my problem? My projector is a chinese Wemax one Pro 7000 lumens
It could be possible that this will fix it, but it's hard to know without knowing the history of your unit. You can definitely try it

Hi need your help. My xiaomi laser project working 10 to 12 minutes than visual will be off but sound is working.
Could be two things, faulty psu or DMD cooling plate is bent. I have a link to custom plate in the comments below. As for psu you'd need to take it to a pj technician for repairs

please make sure you try VERY MANY usb sticks, these projectors are particular about the stick used. Also make sure the stick is properly FAT32 formatted.

I always boot into the Mija setup menu and not into the recovery file. I am confident that i have the right files. Any possible solutions?
I recommend to continue trying diff usb sticks and make sure that they are properly fat 32 formatted.

Its not needed, the same steps still work.
at 11:30 it shows "Updater process ended with ERROR: 127", so in your case it did not really install it/rooted.

@@cr4zyw3ld3r Thank you for the fast reply. I tried that around 20 times with the latest Magisk 23 without success, then it worked using Magisk 18 by using it a few times.
Before I tried all versions from 18 up to 23 without success, I don't know why it's working now by doing it over and over again.

@@dosde yeah I found that Magisk can also be hit or miss with this and some models like the 1080p model seem to do better with older versions. Glad you got it sorted through! I am by no means an expert just thought id share my experience

it should but check the forum in video description for all supported models. In most cases if the the root fail you can flash back the original rom via recovery menu

yeah unfortunately since this pj is on android ver 6 a lot of newer apps just are not compatible. So Aptoide or another store are your best bets
Hi. I tried updating the same xiaomi 4K projector model as shown in the CZcams video . In the CZcams video it shows error 127 after Magisk installation, and I also got exactly the same error during my installation. However, no pop up screen to confirm after reboot, and nothing in the app section screen. How can I fix this problem? Thanks in advance
I would recommend trying multiple usb sticks make sure they are fat formatted.

@@MK-9151 yep its in my pinned comment but. I think I will re-edit the video to include this step since it affecting people quite a bit. However afaik the 127 error is sub related these pjs are very picky about the stick used for one reason or another.

Funny thing is, I was able to install magisk. However, after I reboot, I don't see the pop up window "install confirmation" like in your video. Instead, when I browse to apps, I see magisk icon... how can I install in this case?
You can go into the magisk app itself and click install. But ideally you need to see the confirmation. It took me 4 tries to get it to come up. Each time I had to frag the Install and bring proj back to factory settings

@@joeyye1741 when this happened I went to the app store and got the Go Keyboard to use in place of the stock one, but any other keyboard should work. Just go into android settings and set default kb to whatever you downloaded.
@@cr4zyw3ld3r I didn't like gboard, so I downloaded leankey keyboard and worked fine. Google service doesn't work (always stopped running, it's annoying). Without Google service installed, everything runs smoothly. By the way, does it take long to boot up the device? Mine is really slow (definitely slower than before the root).

@Katka Macicova If memory serves you need to hold the menu and back buttons on startup to get into recovery and factory reset so you can start fresh

hi brother really need your help now, i flashed the projector and half way throughout something happened. im unsure what. and after that projector when turning on shows the logo and turns off after. if im trying to enter recovery mode it shows the logo turns off and on with logo and off again indefinitely. right now i think the boot file is corrupted and i have no way of entering recovery mode or getting anywhere with the projector, therefore cant even get the pc to see projector as well. anyway or method to force flash the projector with new boot files. right now im unsure if the remote is even connected to projector. thanks so much!

@@cr4zyw3ld3r hi sir. i’ve brows through the 100over pages. but from what i’ve gathered is if i’m unable to enter recovery mode, the only last resort to try the the old way to root using the hdmi to usb method to try to get information from the projector. or have i missed something from the forum that you have in mind i could try. i think what i need to be able to do is to flash the projector with a workable rom which i’ve downloaded from the forum and tried from said method there. there seem to not be much options left and i’m straight up struck by what happened to me 😭

So I have connected trough a USB hub a Keyboard and a USB RJ45 dongle.
After completing the first step, I was able to update my mi box s.
After the update wifi was available and functionnal. a

How did you get to the screen at czcams.com/video/tz_dIEAcj14/video.html when I do ADB reboot update it reboot the projector and then the project gets to the normal chinese launch screen not the TWRP, am I doing something wrong?
It's likely usb stick incompatibility. Make sure it's formatted properly and try many different types of sticks. I find these projectors are particular about the ttpe used and won't boot some usb drives.

@@cr4zyw3ld3r Ok so my model is the MiProjL1 and to be sure that can't have the firmware changed to have 3d and or is there any reason for me to root it as per the video? Also there is a very high pitch electronic "dog whistle" type sound is there any solution to that.
@@tarkuscox-smith4278 to my knowledge no way to re-enable 3D on those models, but you can double check via the forums. The noise you are experiencing is likely due to the internal fans. Which in theory can be fixed with a wax lubricant like what you would use on a bicycle chain. However this would require that you open the projector and service the fan one by one.

@@Ripcurl777 the DLP chip is 3D capable but the rom on the international version is not compatible with thr Chinese models due a different board with different cpu ram etc. AFAIK no one has cracked it yet so you'd need to do more research.
hey mate, so suddenly I'm having the HDMI input issue. though the projector has not been updated or even connected to a network since the original root more than 1yr ago (going by my old comments in this video). can't find the HDCP reset option in the engineering menu either (even after updating to the latest projectivy launcher)
any ideas??

@@daft009 Unfortunate, in this case you may want to do what I did. Uninstall magisk thereby also removing the root and run the FW update on the PJ. Then you can reapply magisk, keep in mind you will need to find ver 18 first.

so today I went back to factory xiaomi launcher/rom from the projector recovery (plugged in power to the PJ while holding back & enter).
did an update on the mitv launcher etc so I'm still 100% back to to stock.

@Xantron Games so at this stage I recommend running a full restore and start over. Also make sure you connect via ethernet to you PJ when you run adb.
@Cr4zyw3ld3r I need your help on the Xiaomi 4K projector. It started restarting on it own while we are watching programmes. I had reported it to customer support but they haven’t been forth coming so I found some instructions on the internet and they recommended you reset the projector to factory default. I did and after restart the screen become blank although project is on. When I press the the key with three lines snd hold , a flash comes on and disappears. I need help
This sounds like the cooling unit has separated from the DMD there are two solutions one of which is discussed here www.projectorjunkies.com/xiaomi-4k-laser-ust-projector-repair/ the other is to use springs to tighten the cooling plate to dmd
@@cr4zyw3ld3r thanks , I need to fix the blank page problem first to monitor if the restart problem still persist. I had reset the projector to factory default settings, but when it boots , I don’t see anything showing on the screen although the lamp is on. I think the boot process had a problem. I was expecting atleast a boot with the original Chinese settings. Note that when the projector arrived it had preinstall western English settings. What do I do to restore the projector to see the settings/ apps /homepage etc.
@@FranklinAdzimah you may need to do factory reset a couple of times, however I think you have the lamp heatsink issue I noted above in which case not amount of reset will solve it since the underlying problem is faulty hardware from factory.

The rainman device can take 4K input but with scale it it down to 1080p no problems

DOes anybody have any tipst to get lower latency? I have a batman , and i also have another problem if i use hdmi 2.1 i only can use 4k hdr 30hz i cannot use 60hz with my windows desktop (3080ti fresh install ) or even at my old macbook pro 2015 and i also cannot change the resolution back to 1080p, i only can change to 1080p 60hz if i turn off the hdmi 2.1 by the menu.

You have to set the input to pc or computer and disable all image enhancements there are options for this in the new ui with the projector tools app. But keep in mind lowest tested latency is still around 60ms.

I set everything to off even dynamic contracst and color in the new ui menu.
I think its more than 200ms right now pretty laggy.
But the 1080p mode isnt working at hdmi2.1 more problem for me :/

@@SadaWeb I would consult the mod creator on the forum I linked if you are still having the latency issue. But also check to make sure you updated to the latest firmware on the pj. They fixed a number of issues with latency in later fw revisions. I am not sure what you mean about HDMI 2.1 the projector does not have any HDMI2.1 capable ports. What is your setup like are you pushing from your PC a 1080p signal over cable to projector and getting no display? You may want to check windows display settings and Nvidia control panel to make sure you are not sending some odd refresh rate that the pj does not support.

mine is a xiaomi 4k codename"batman" , in the build in menu it has a hdmi mode switch maybe im mistaken and it is a hdmi 2.0? but the essential that this mode is off it only knows 1080p and no hdr at all , if it is on its only knows 4k 30hz and hdr and its strange cause in the desc it is capable for 60hz too.... also i saw in the dump txt files in the second post on the xda and for the batman 4k 60hz hdr is in the list so its really strange :D just because of this i reinstalled my windows system but that isnt a solution and also try with 4 expensive hdmi cabel to :D 2.0 and 2.1 versions too so its a real mystery.... but thats for the 60hz
If i type any other resolution of refresh rate the screen goes black ..... iam also suspicious that the windows update download a bad driver for the projector but i cannot find any driver files that i can force the windows to use them :/ but the same thingy happens on osx too.
Windows setup is 9900K 3080ti nvidia brand windows setup and new studio driver ( also tried game driver too)
