Oh Lupita dear African child .. you are an inspiration ...Blessings galore to you ..
This is absolutely the most beautiful thing. Honestly, soon as they panned over to Lupita sitting with the young girls in front of her- I started tearing up. REPRESENTATION MATTERS!!
Mae that’s so true. The media is a huge influence on perceptions, likes, dislikes and many other things. When you can see yourself being portrayed as beautiful or smart or the princess or the heroine... it MAKES A DIFFERENCE
As a white blonde girl I must say, dark skinned people you are SO BEAUTIFUL! I am constantly stunned! Please embrace your beauty, it inspires us!
Thank you so much!! Much love to you❤️ Your skin is equally beautiful
💜💜💜
Yesss Im an adult with no kids but I wanna get my hand on a copy of Sulwe 👏👏👏
Me too
She is extraordinarily beautiful, and a huge part of that IS her beautiful skin tone. It makes my heart ache that she couldn't see it.
that's common with women (some men too) to find flaws no matter what. Glad some can save themselves like Lupita did, and make people aware that you can present yourself well, and be gorgeous.
@@MrVariant I know it's common. That makes it even more sad. And, yes. I'm glad she has gone on, moved past, etc. and has become a lovely example for others to see.
@@MrVariant its more common with dark people. stop trying to erase that
@@msdri98 I'm not erasing anything. You're telling me small breasts, eating disorders, and flabby stomachs are non issues? This is simply another one, that some people need to cling to, rather than bail themselves out at first respect.
But lemme guess, because it's black everything else don't matter. You surely ruined a thread, ironically neglecting that these other flaws could affect black women too. Then somehow want to feel attractive despite the negative aura you single-handedly created.
Sulwe means STARS in our mother tongue LUO. Wapi Wakenya, likes hapa. Joluo, Jo Acholi, Jopadholi, Jo Shilluk, Jo Anyuak, Jo Nam, Jo Alur and many others, ket uru likes ka, Waher Lupita. Not forgetting our cousins Jo Dinka kod Jo Nuer....One love!

Black women you are very, very beautiful.
Her childhood pic is so cute🤗
The first time I laid eyes on her I thought what a beautiful woman. I saw her in 12 Years a Slave and she looked terrible in that movie because of course she was playing a slave. But even at her worse you could still see how pretty she is. Now we see that not only is she physically beautiful, but has a beautiful spirit. I am sure buying this book for my niece. She is a beautiful dark skinned child and I want her to grow up with self esteem. Although my niece is told by a lot of people how pretty she is. Having the right type of self esteem is important for all children.
Lupita is a most captivatingly gorgeous lady and most beautiful, i admire her talent, so sorry she felt inferior as a child growing up, so thankful she is promoting a children’s book w/ a positive message, a good role model.....
After seeing those little girls smile at Lupita that goes to show that she’s doing a damn good job at what she does. She’s beautiful and she’s an inspiration to so many I will always love and support you Ms.Lupita🙏🏾❣️
She's such a fine and beautiful young sister. What a shame that many tend to bleach their skin just to blend in and/or be accepted.
Lupita you are a very beautiful, dark skin black woman.
She’s so eloquent it’s amazing
Lupita you are beautiful, talented, smart and wonderful
To look like she does, and have her intelligence. Who said looks and brains don't mix?
Much love lupita from Kenya.. representing the African child...
lupita you are EXACTLY who you were made to be!! The world would be boring if there weren't a little color in it!! :) Keep inspiring us all QUEEN!
she's so well spoken.
She is gorgeous I adore her, timeless talent and grace.
Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls
Your back against the world
I never trade you for anybody else, say
Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls
The best thing inna di world
I never trade you for anybody else, sayPose like a trophy when Naomis walk in
She need an Oscar for that pretty dark skin
Pretty like Lupita when the cameras close in
Drip broke the levee when my Kellys roll in
I think tonight she might braid her braids
Melanin too dark to throw her shade
She minds her business and wines her waist
Gold like 24k, okayTonight I might fall in love, dependin' on how you hold me
I'm glad that I'm calmin' down, can't let no one come control me
Keep dancin' and call it love, she fightin' but fallin' slowly
If ever you are in doubt, remember what mama told meBrown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls
Your back against the world
I never trade you for anybody else, say
Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls
The best thing inna di (about the) world
I never trade you for anybody else, sayOh, have you looked in the mirror lately? (lately)
Wish you could trade eyes with me ('cause)
There's complexities in complexion
But your skin, it glow like diamonds
Dig me like the earth, you be giving birth
Took everything in life, baby, know your worth
I love everything about you, from your nappy curls
To every single curve, your body natural
Same skin that was broken be the same skin takin' over
Most things out of focus, view
But when you're in the room, they notice you (notice you)
'Cause you're beautiful
Yeah, you're beautifulThe men dem gon' fall in love
With you and all of your glory
Your skin is not only dark, it shines and it tells your story
Keep dancin', they can't control you
They watchin', they all adore you
If ever you are in doubt, remember what mama told youBrown skin girl (brown skin girl)
Ya skin just like pearls (brown skin girl)
Your back against the world (oh)

This is exactly how I felt going to school. I’m not dark but I always wanted to be white. This hits home soooooo much. She’s amazing! Also it didn’t help that I was so into rock music. Then I found him I Hendrix and more and they saved me as well.

Awesome.
Sulwe means STAR(NYOTA) in my mother tongue
Where are my LUO people at 🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇿👌Tanzania
Love from 254
Colorism is very prevalent in my country and even though we are the same race, everyone , since a young age, is pressured to be light.
Even though I am someone with light skin, growing up, my skin was tan(as a kid) and even though, it was just a tan, someone from my family, who met me for the first time due to certain circumstances, told me I couldn't be part of their family because I wasn't fair enough, like my parents.
That's when I felt so small. I felt so weak and like someone was throwing me away because of my skin at that time.
My incident cannot compare to the people who are born with dark and deep tones at all but that one incident hurt me so much that it's still so fresh in my mind.
I am in my 20s now and no longer in that situation but I ended up meeting some little girls, whom I would consider to be light-medium skinned, like me, to be constantly told that they aren't light enough.
They are young kids and yet someone from their relatives/family would tell them to apply home remedies, in order to get rid of their 'tan' or 'dark skin'.
I watched the video where you read the book and decided that whenever I get kid, regardless of what skin colour my child ends up being, I will make them hear you read it or read it to them myself.
I wanna let them know from a young age that they are amazing the way they are and them being themselves is enough, regardless what anyone says.
Thank you for writing this book. Really appreciate it.
Night or Day, to me, everyone is enough the way they are.
Yay❣️❣️
Good show love it
well done girl
Beautiful woman
Sulwe is a LUO noun meaning star. We call stars as SULWE . So in luo we don't have a plural for sulwe, it can be one or many
That I like

Am from Kenya most people are dark few are light how you end up feeling like that I don't understand, and luo tribe are even darker, storytelling is one of the way to capture people and when you make it more emotional the better. You got the people there and the fact that you are born with privilege just be grateful but we all know color doesn't matter when you are in Africa
Wivu ni ya nini if may ask ?she is black and beautiful .
@@millicentochieng8554 she is my role model and I admire her very much, but let's be honest here, why feel you are black when every other person is black, come on get real here.
