      that was a good problem ..tried my best explaining that and trying to find a shortcut...not sure how to do this any other way

      @@Mathodman20 yh, I've solved lot of sat math questions. Although I've failed some, looking at their corrections made me grab immediately but this question was different 😮‍💨😢

    Hi the solution is correct but there is a much easier way to do this, that took me around 1 minute.
    The prism's surface area can be written as
    360x + x^2 = K
    since the height is being doubled we just adjust our formula and get
    720x + x^2 = 92/47 * K
    This is a simple system of equation, and just graph this on desmos as
    720x + x^2 = 92/47 * Y
    360x + x^2 = Y
    and find the intersection which gets you 16.

      This is incorrect.
      1) The SA for an individual prism is 2x^2 + 360x (includes both top & bottom) which equals K
      2) The total SA for both prisms is 2x^2 + 720x (includes 1 top & 1 bottom with the other top & bottom not counted since they are on the inside attached to each other) = (92/47)*K
      3) Very difficult to do this in Desmos and find the intersection because the graphs are so steep. You need to first set the 2 equations equal to each other (or substitute in) and then you can enter that into Desmos.

    K is S.A of cuboid with height 90 and 'resulting S.A' is of cuboid with height 180.
    (92/47) × K = resulting S.A
    (92/47) (360s+2s^2) = 720s + 2s^2
    solve this and get answer
    s=8

      that is a lot faster haha...yea I am not that great with memorizing and remembering formulas but they definitely help.

    Rigorously long question there. Does the ACT ever give these kinds of questions out because I feel like these kinds of questions may take more than 2 minutes for me

      this was an SAT. There are only about 1-2 questions there that are tricky and long. The ACT doesn't really give wordy problems like this one.
