2022 SINNIS Hoodlum 125 Review Affordable First Bike?

- The SINNIS Hoodlum 125cc is a learner class motorbike with cruiser style tendencies. And at just £2200 in this day and age, it makes motorcycling for younger people or folk on a budget more accessible.
For getting around, going into town, getting to work, Sunday ride-outs, this bike will do all of that and keep you comfortable at the same time.
Yes, it's a budget bike, but that doesn't mean it's not nice to ride, because it is!
The engine was sweet, and the exhaust was loud (too loud!! for me) I will also give you the full specifications of the bike at the end with some close-up video.

Excellent. Love seeing 'real world' bike reviews instead of the expensive toys so please bring us more!
Your introduction gives a whole new meaning to 'breaking the bank', more like breaking your back getting it up there - bet you don't do that with a Harley!!!
I certainly couldn't get a HD up there. Might get costly! Yes it's a good chap run around👍🍻
Cracking video once more! Looks like a very interesting beginner's bike.
Yeap, people on a budget, new riders..... Ideal👍
Good to see another decent review of a sensibly priced starter bike. Thank you.
Peter
Thank you Peter. Sorry to hear you can't make the social rideout. We will have to get together some other time. Hope the wedding goes well. Have a good week : )
@@exeterrider thanks.
Finally got my Classic 500 back so we should sort out a meet soon.
Great review. I was actually recommended your review by one of your subscribers.
Yesterday, I saw one parked outside Asda in Kilmarnock. I approached the guy who looked about 18 as I was carrying my shopping and asked him about it. I don't usually approach kids in car parks 😄 .
He said he'd bought it second hand the day before after seeing your video a few weeks ago.
It cost him £1100 after the previous owner had passed her CBT, bought the bike and then after a few rides had a change of heart . Motorcycling wasn't for her. So he got a pretty good deal. She even threw in gloves and a helmet
Wow, love that post thanks! Great to see my vids working. Thanks 👍👍👍
@@exeterrider No worries. If I ever see the guy again at my supermarket. I'll tell him to leave a comment on your video about the bike
@@lth1072 👍
great review er,it makes sense to get one to learn on and as cheap as possible, because most people will take there full licence after a couple of years,
Exactly James, I agree!
Great review buddy, for the money its a good starter bike.
Very comparable with the michigan, loving that exhaust sound
Thanks RB, I still have tinnitus from it I think lol
New sub, great video.!
Thanks 🙏👍
That actually looks quite nice but I still have a soft spot for that Sinnis Terrain 125 with the petite luggage that you had for a while.
I still think that would be such a practical little bike for running errands.
Quite agree, no need for a 125 to be that loud. On a 125 to have an exhaust that loud, that’s embarrassing. It’s like all mouth and no trousers 👖
Great review as always and gives us viewers a good idea of what to expect from this bike 👏
Thanks ER, enjoyed hearing your opinion on this one.
Cheers 👍
The Spanish Variant
Yes , so comfortable as well! I have been on bikes 15 times the price and they haven't been as comfortable as this one. Thanks for your watch time again E.R
The suspension needs a couple of hundred miles to soften, that’s all. Love the Toro exhaust too, great sound. Gives it that Harley sound.
Couldn't agree more!
I am looking to get myself a motorcycle for a long time now. I've been going on CZcams and other parts of the internet to find the right one for me. I love the cruisers and always wanted one.
Now I am torn apart between three bikes:
Keeway superlight
Sinnis Hoodlum (thanks to your video)
Hyosung Aquila (also thanks to your video!)
I am leaning more towards the Hyosung because it has that Harley Davidson, typical bobber style. But it's damn difficult to decide which one I will be stuck for 2+ years with
They are all good. Have you a dealer near you though. Pick the bike where back up and servicing is most easiest. The Aqullia rides the best out of those but I do like them all. Hope that helps, the outlaw is a good one too. Review coming up 👍
Brilliant review as always. My Deauville was combined braking, it did the job when needed going down grossglockner, don't laugh but I actually like the look of this, better than my cafe racer style Orcal Astor I keep in France
Thanks for another great review
Ha, I like it too Ian, and most of all you would be amazed how comfy the seating and rider position is. Really nice all day cruiser.
@@exeterrider where do I need to go to get a test ride
Dealerships for these bikes are a bit spread out. ?They do have a "dealership finder" on there website. Where are you based Ian?
@@exeterrider south Wales
Nice little run around there ER also good value too nothin wrong with that : )
Absolutely! Thanks mate
Good learner bike mate or city run-around : )
Good bike to get into motorcycles. I'm with you on the noise as well.
At 55, I could only do it for so long 😂ear popping!
Good value so long as spares and back-up are available.
You forgot to mention whether tassles for the hand grips are available.
I started riding in 1985 by buying a brand new MZ125, kept it until I passed my tests then sold it the following weekend.
I lost less than 1/3rd of the new price and it needed no repairs during the 7 months I had it.
Definitely better than buying a "banger".
For sure. I remember MZ, they were big back in the day. Did they merge with Guzzi? Tassles are avaliable at exeterrider.com
Spares for Euro 4 already unavailable . Been waiting for nine weeks for dealer to source fuel pump from China !
Always enjoy your reviews, thanks. Choice is great but you can buy a new Honda CB12F for around another £400 -- better MPG and a quieter exhaust ;-)
Very true, although the CB125f hasn't got the styling like this one.
First impression: It looks great, very striking!
It would be good for a Noob. Perhaps the people who buy these will one day be HD customers?!
Hi, nice review for a starter bike ,I see the cement mixer is very clean, so does that mean you have, not had any bad bikes and not had to many burials to deal with ? .
I bought the cement mixer and had only been used once when my wife went missing 3 years ago. I built a memorial patio to remember her by. 🍻👍
nice looking bike , smart contrast of silver spokes to black rims , sensible mudguards , nice overall shape and style and seat . ... keep it spayed with gt40 or similar all the time or pay the rot price ;;;
Spot on Simon👍
I have had the 2021 hoodlum for a year and i recommend it with the toro exhaust. It is loud but with the unusually long stroke of the zs125-79 engine it gives a beautiful tone for a 125. Very economical and very comfortable on a long trip (by long i mean 100+miles)
I liked it, I'm not sure if sinnis are still supplying these now
@@exeterrider 2023 is the latest model I can find info about
Yes I think they are having a rebrand or chucking the towel in.
They are under a different name in other countries if you need parts
I loved my Hoodlum, only vehicle I have ever bought new out of the showroom, I enjoyed riding it and it confirmed my love for biking. However....the service intervals to preserve the supposedly great warranty are a comically short 1200 miles, and even though my bike was wrapped in cotton wool it started to show signs of rust in the exhaust hangers and swingarm within 10 months from new, Sinnis could not have cared less and I sold the bike before it deteriorated any more.
1200 miles! I thought it would be 3k at least. Infact I thought it was 3k? 1200 is no good I agree!
@@exeterrider yep every 2000km to 12000km and then every 2500km, and it hasn't changed because I just went and checked. Comically the Lexmoto Michigan, that is basically the same bike, has longer service intervals.
👌👍
What kind of mileage does a bike like thos get up to before it starts to die ?, engine, clutch replacements ect
It's a old suzuki based engine so the engines go on forever. It should be fine if you look after it and keep a cover on it, acf50 it etc. Just make sure you have a dealer near by 👍
Funny, I used to like loud exhausts until not that long ago and the stock can was the first thing I'd swap out when I got a new bike. But quite recently (at 51 now) I've gone off them for some reason and prefer something quieter.
The Toro exhaust is the stock one on the Hoodlum :)
I'm the same,I once used to ride an XS650 with gutted "silencers" that sounded like Armageddon arriving. Now I'm a grumpy old git who hates the far too loud 125 singles that blat around where I live,if I ever get hold of one of the riders they'll be wearing their bloody "loud can" internally.
@@PhilipKerry Not.
Hello mate i'm in exeter also near Pinhoe, i just done my cbt and looking for a 125 cruiser, honestly what's the best value for money would you recommend me? i'm back and forth between what to get... friends saying don't do Chinese but i think they look great
Hi, I would say look at the lexmoto michigan, cheap to buy, very comfortable and good dealership network.
Also cms have very nice 125s, they are in Pinhoe by aldi and have some good cruisers out there. Say I sent you and they will look after you 👍
@@exeterrider awesome cheers appreciate the info, i'll definitely look out for the michigan, i do pop in there back and forth haha but will definitely mention you ;) might even throw me a discount
@@SirHutch maybe, also checkout Tween motors by McDonald's (by bear feet play centre) they sell lexmotis and have good service.
Keep an eye out for me and say hello.... Let me know what you decide on in the end👍
Used to have an Sinnis Terrain 125 ok ish did rust and fall apart but for the money ok. Was hard to get parts from Sinnis dealer in Brighton on occasions, would I buy another Sinnis bike 'nope' but I do like the look of the Hoodlum.
For the youngens on a budget it does the job. I'm a fan of the 2021 onwards sinnis terrain. I just got back from the ABR fest and there were loads up there! some people have put some big tours on them. Hoodlum does look good and its also very comfortable. Thanks for watching bud : )
I have this bike, 2022 one, its a really good bike, gets up to 60 but if windy you will be sitting around 50mph, If you get into an accident or anything gets damaged on the bike however, you will find it very hard to get parts atm, theyre all sold out which is a pain as i need new handle bars 😭
Its the same with any brand at the moment. Infact most brands can't import anymore bikes till next year so its not just your bike mate....very comfortable arnt they. Thanks for watching. Stay in contact and let me know when you can get them.
Does your toro exhaust have a baffle in ? If not do you know how to remove the baffle
It did have the baffle in but I dont know how to remove it : )
It's the Michigan's twin. Only difference I can see is wheels and exhaust. You should try the Michigan. Standard exhaust on it and alloy wheels not spokes. Hoodlum to me is a rip off. You pay more just for the wheels and exhaust. That's why I got the lexmoto Michigan. Great review.
Is like to try a michigan, I thought the price was good tbh. Yes both good bikes though. I hope I can try a michigan some time.
@@exeterrider I was looking at the hoodlum. But the price got me. Lexmoto was at the time a lot cheaper. I think you may find the Michigan alot better on the ears with the standard exhaust. It is a cracking bike for a first time rider like me. You did a great review.
@@mtbelly1972 thanks mate 👌👍🍻
The Michigan is the poor mans Hoodlum. Also the exhaust on this Hoodlum is not stock its aftermarket.
Doesn't the lack of RPM gauge annoy people? I drove a car without one once and hated it. On a small engine bike that needs rpm for power, I feel like I'd constantly hit the limiter...
Any opinions?
Dosent bother me at all. Infact I think it's the least needed thing on a bike myself.
@@exeterrider Very interesting! My opinion might also be down to having an 8500rpm V8 weekend car and so naturally I spend a lot of time near the redline, cos, ermm, fun!
I’d likely want to do the same on a fun little 125 but at the same time I don’t want to be constantly bouncing off the limiter.
Might have to start my motorcycle journey with a WK scrambler instead…
You will love it 👌👍
Hmm.. Good option over a Chinese 250 hawk or something.. If you don't plan on off roading
Very true
At around 2200 sovs it's got to be a bit of a bargain but, as you say, it will need a lot of TLC to remain looking good. Is it a HOODLUM bike, ER? Did it take you back to your early motorcycling days?
Ha, not with that exhaust. I still have ringing in my ears 2 months later. 😂 Can you get to the Saddle ride-out Jim?
@@exeterrider I'm not sure, ER. Our son has indicated he hopes that he and his family are able (nothing cropping up) to come and visit on that Bank Holiday weekend.
@@jimsadler8704 OK. See how it goes, fingers crossed 🤞
I recently picked up the Lexmoto Michigan as my first bike. I managed to get it up to 65mph when I bought it - but that was coming back down Telegraph Hill on the way back to Exeter 😂.
It's a 2009 model and does have lots of rust here and there. I've changed the handle bars for lower ones and managed to thread two screws in the process. The screws seem to be made of chocolate!
However it's been a solid little bike for the past month and I've yet to visit a petrol station!
Does the job, if it was down telegraph then you gained 35mph😂yes the metals used arnt great but for the money you can string them out. Hopfully will meet you one day 👍🍻
What did you observe as a comfortable top speed? 45 mph?
About 50 I'd say : )
i have seen different reviews and you all say different horse power you say 9 and a half, others say 11 then 11 and a half what does it say on the log book,
Not sure but SINNIS say 9.5 so I guess thats what we should go by?
As we know, learner legal bikes are never perfect, they just need to cover enough of the new rider’s needs to be able to get on the road.
This bike, I believe is a good option for new riders, provided that they get the hang of the combined breaking quickly.
Nice review mate! ✌️
Exactly that mate ✌️
That should appeal to the shorter learners, I suppose.
Thanks Noob👍
Nice review mate but most definitely not my cup of tea 😁
😂👌Thanks Andy, yes your ahead of needing this type of bike 👍🚲
Doesn't look bad, but I would feel vulnerable on a 125. I agree: too noisy.
👍🍻
stick a temporary baffle in it ;
Did you cut down a tree to park the bike there at the start? I see it laying there just out of shot 😄
Yes I did, it took 6 hours but it made for a better video 😂👍🍻
It costs less than my electric bicycle, and I bet it is a lot more reliable too.
Yes I think so too!
That exhaust really kinda ruins the bike imo, the sound is awful. Otherwise looks like a really good offering from Sinnis.
Yeah I agree! very comfortable as well!
That exhaust is not stock its aftermarket. Its a Toro exhaust system.
Insurance is shockingly expensive for 125’s nowadays.
It is for the under 30s for sure
@@exeterrider Well I’m 43 and have close to 20years no claims discount, although only 9yrs gets recognised.
I had quotes for a new Honda CB125F last week from mine and 2 other insurers , quotes came in ranging from £50-80 a year more to insure the 125 than it does to insure my Ducati Monster.
And 2 years ago same thing. Was paying extra £65 a year to insure a Yamaha MT125 when I changed from my 2013 Triumph Street Triple R.
I love smaller bikes but makes no sense when they cost more to insure than bigger and better brand motorbikes.
I can only assume there’s more thefts and accidents on 125’s increasing their insurance premiums.
@@urbanfireblade I'm 45 and maybe it's an area thing. A 125 is about 120 to insure, where as my nc is 145. Hard to understand how it all works. A mate of mine in London pays 800 for his 1000versys!
Sorry to correct you buddy but the Toro exhaust is the standard exhaust on the Hoodlum , you can check it here in this Bike Matters Review czcams.com/video/H_BmUieScUQ/video.html
No problem Phil, But I would have to disagree. The website also shows the bike with a standard exhaust, and the main press pictures is of the bike I had. and then there is a link for the after market Toros. So in my opinion the Toro exhaust is still after market. I have been wrong in the past and thanks for bringing that info to me. I will check it out.
@@exeterrider EDIT: I clicked the Toro link and you are indeed correct :) Time to take my dementia meds I think :)
No problem mate. Were human and I still appreciate you mentioning it because I can get things wrong. Thanks
@@exeterrider :)
@@exeterrider Correct.
Not at all reliable. You will struggle to get service done only specific dealers do services and shit bike. It’s better to spend more and get sonda yamaha suzuki… but not this one, contact me if anyone like this bike I’m ready to sell in low price
Hi Yes,
In most cases only the dealer you buy from will service these although you should be able to find a bike mechanic somewhere that will help. What issues have you had? Have you tried contacting SINNIS direct?
