I've seen him in concert a dozen times. Of course he always plays this. He says there are two kinds of people in the auditorium. Those who have all his albums, and their significant others who got dragged along. And they probably have never heard anything of his but YOTC. So he plays it for them. Also, he says, he makes all his money off that song, so it has allowed him to live the lifestyle he loves -- touring and playing music. Every time it's different, never the same as the album which is total perfection, but always great to hear.

been a fan since '69. back then, he was acoustic folk and told stories about life. then, in '76, he brought out the folk/rock album, year of the cat, and completely refused to have anything more to do with his earlier work. he won't even say why. he is the master story teller. this whole album is masterful, having been produced by alan parsons, who had produced dark side of the moon. he once said that he had wished that he the voice to become a 'real' rock singer, strong and husky, but i'm so glad he didn't, as he became the totally original artist that he is here. road to moscow is a great song of his

I saw Al Stewart a few years ago live and he east still fantastic, it was a double header gig with Iain Matthews and both of them still have it. When they played year of the cat at the point the where the saxophone played, the saxophonist appear at the back of the theatre and and walk through the audience to the stage it was amazing. Dominica has it spot on at its best music touches the soul and makes you glad to be alive and there are still people out there doing it of all ages, and despite nostalgia you have always have to know where to look : listen for it despite many people rise tinted view of the past.

The point about those ties were there were so many bands of this quality that every week there would be an album coming out that you needed to get... I loved Al Steward then and I still love his music... And he's still touring. Which is the wonderful thing.
And yes, I still play this album.. take it off the shelf and let my mind float back to those times... Keep on Rocking.

The problem with today’s music is, it is all controlled by computers. They use beat tracks instead of real drums. The vocals are synthesized and manipulated with filters and electronic processors , half the time the people aren’t even good singers to begin with. Because everything is computer controlled there is no room for spontaneity or musical expression. All the music sounds the same and it’s boring and repetitive. Thank God there are people like you. Keep up the great job. Cheers from Canada 👍🎸🎶😎🇨🇦
