Hey everyone, hows it going I’m Jeremy and Welcome to the string showdown where I like to compare 2 sets of guitar strings to mainly find which ones you all like better. Today I have a set of strings from Thomastik-Infeld called Spectrums. These strings are from a maker all the way over in Vienna Austria. the other pair is from D’Addario called Xts in phosphor bronze. Both sets are actually phosphor bronze so it will be a good comparison. The XTs are a premium string set much like the Thomastik- Infelds but they are significantly cheaper so I am curious to see what you think about that.
Just a little note: Everything is recorded the exact same way as far as mics, mic placement, on my Taylor 812. It is a bit of a smaller sized guitar as far as depth goes so it lies a little bit brighter than let's say a dreadnaught shape. Basically, I am trying to keep out as many variables as possible.
Also, I would encourage you to use earbuds or headphones if you really want to hear detail. Anyways, let’s take a listen to a few more examples from a percussive style of playing, a slow arpeggio, and some finger picky type stuff. The differences in strings usually stand out in the slow arpeggio. There is just something about the tone that is most apparent in that example. I think it is just the ability to listen to the tone without anything else getting in the way. Alright, lets Go!

Even on studio monitors, it's very clear that the TI's have more of a creamy saturation that is simply beautiful on acoustic. The XT's sound more dry and "woody" in comparison, which to be fair, might be what some are going for. I've personally used both strings and prefer the TI's myself, but to each their own. This is a great comparison video! This really lets the undecided get a clear side-by-side.

It’s great to see you’re doing videos on string brands I haven’t heard of, we definitely need more competition in the string game!
The D’Addario XT strings on my guitar are slightly growing on me, however, I still think I’ll switch back to Elixirs. Speaking of D’Addario, a new acoustic string line from them called XS is coming out somewhere in Spring. Will you be doing videos on those? Incredible video once again, Jeremy!

I'll add those to the list. I am compiling new strings so I can batch record everything at once. I will probably release some new types of videos in March. I am thinking it might be guitar licks, and then maybe some live streaming of me making backing tracks. But, with this channel I will go back to familiar formats too. String Showdowns will be a staple and will keep appearing. Thanks again!

Hi Jeremy, I heard you from Maryland, where did you buy Spectrum Bronze strings in Maryland, do you shopping strings in Maryland Guitar Centers or other stores? I shop in NJ Guitar Centers and only have Daddario XT and Elixirs, I cannot find spectrum bronze strings in NJ, and New York City.

I found them online but I forget exactly where. Most likely Amazon but it might have been somewhere else.

    Nice playing.Thomastik Spectrum Bronze more ringing/lively.Less compressed/brittle/nasal sounding than D'Addario.Less clanky/metallic too.More resonant/warm sounding/musical IMHO.Bite the financial bullet....it's time to release those rare moths from your wallet.😂.

I was an elixir guy for years but I’ve switched to XT’s . After several months the strings discolor under the fretting hands but it’s had no effect on the sound so I guess it’s a non issue .
