The key word here being ‘radical’. Where’s the ingenuity in the production, structure or lyrics? Kanye West has had a long and storied career that I would argue is more defined by his cult of celebrity than by his musical achievements. He’s made a couple of great records that bridged a divide between pop and hip-hop in a fresh and clever way and he puts on a good show but he’s hardly breaking any new ground with DONDA. It’s all smoke and mirrors - the marketing strategy will remain the most interesting aspect of the release.
