- What not to do in Police Quest I plus other observations. Because of time constraints (10:59 absolute limit), scenes and dialog are heavily edited, cut, and/or sped up. Oddly, this is the longest video of all the games. Game over sound is mostly reduced to one beep.
There are some scenes I didn't add such as drinking beer on duty, firing gun in holster, losing your personal car, running a red light, or losing in poker. I'm pretty sure there other scenarios I missed during gameplay.
It's not as [graphically] intense as PQ1VGA & PQ3, or detailed as PQ2 but hey it's still PQ nevertheless. Enjoy.
That's all for Police Quest videos for me. PQ4 and SWAT series have been done by others so go look it up if you want.
First video uploaded intentionally for the widescreen format. Cropped the title bar and a bit off the bottom and got me a perfect 320x180.
First time I played this, I was using a Tandy 1000 using a 5.25 floppy and I had to hunt and peck the letter on the keyboard.

I had a pirate copy I got off a friend on a 5.25" floppy. It ran on my 25Mhz 386 running DOS 3.1. Classic memory.
I found my first copy among a pile of 3.5" amiga disks
When you stop the blue car, you and the suspect can both shoot each other at the same time. The message will say, "If it's a tie, you lose."
I remember once making a suspect stop, put his hands up, and...
And...
I shot him!!!

Haha it was so fun to save and then fool around in this game. You got most of the good ones. I loved going to the bar and ordering drinks while on duty

Part of the game is obeying police procedure, violating it ends the game. Part of the "procedure" is doing a walk-around/safety check of your car before getting in it and driving off. Failure to do so gets you a flat tire shortly after leaving the station. Game over. You're not "dead" but you didn't follow procedure so, Game Over.

@@brianstraight9308 Maybe Lytton was more relaxed with their laws on police wearing towels? Remember this was a long time ago and most of us who played this game had previously found three famed treasures to restore a kingdom and made a knight into a king. 😄
There's 3 more deaths I remember as a kid playing this, one when you load your gun and type fire while you have it holstered and you blow your foot off.
The other is if you lose all your money playing poker.
Finally, in the last part, if you radio for help AFTER you walk into bain's hotelroom, you get killed just as your backup shows up and shoots Baines. It says you die in the line of duty.

Good times, basically my first ever english lessons.
One that hasn't been mentioned on comments nor on the video: if you fall from the highway while driving, the game will remark you're playing Police Quest, not an helicopter simulator.
you forgot about:
failing to safety check the patrol car
walking back into the station with the nightstick before you change jobs
failing to get the money after getting changed for the hotel operation (which you don't realise till you try to check in)
A couple others; running past a red light, crashing on the highway's walls, having alcohol on duty
I have such fond memories of this game, driving was crazy hard but fun.

8:55 You can indeed die by falling into the river in this game. Overall, it's as if this Police Quest game is meant to be an Edutainment tool for future Police Officer or Police Officer in training. Honestly, no random break down if you didn't check your car? It's just 'No Check, Will Break Down'. Isn't the job of the PD's mechanic is to check its cars? And not the in-duty officers?
Can you imagine a scene like this in a Batman story? The Joker phoned Gotham PD that he'll commit a crime at a certain place; then a squad of Police Cars quickly rushed to the scene without 'Check Car'. On their way, the cars lose their wheels and the Joker got away.
That being said, the game does NOT penalize you from having sex with Helen/Eve, it just doesn't give you any point for ticketing her.
..and I always wondered why those other two cops just watch as you drown! Guess Sonny was the odd man out. 😄

@KiethSomataw99 Strangely for a Sierra game, no. There are no high places in Police Quest 1 to fall from.

@TehEPICD00D Hmm, I guess "fatal" isn't an accurate word to use. It probably would get him fired, though, and since you have to stay on the force in order to complete the game you might as well be dead.

9 years layer XD, but there are debugging tools integrated in the game, they are activated by alt+d or something like that.
