  • Holy moly have we got something special to sip on today. We're tasting Bushmills 21 Year Single Malt Irish Whiskey, and we're finally back in the van for Whiskey in the Van Wednesday! Will this rare and super-aged whiskey check all the boxes or will it simply be too weird on our palates? Also, a huge thank you to DK Tucker for gifting this bottle to us and to Kurt from ‪@slbdrinks‬ for providing the sample!

Great video. Just attended an Irish whiskey fest here in NYC. Bushmill was offering their whiskeys from the 10 year old up through the 21 year old (they had bottles of their 30 yo, but they weren’t pouring that one). The 21 yo was really nice, but I (and others, including the Bushmill rep) preferred the 16 year old. Try that one. Slainte

It almost happened when we were in Indiana last year, but we couldn't get the timing right. Someday!

I'm a bit more than 11% Irish, enough to celebrate St Patrick's day! The only Irish whiskey I have is Knappogue Castle 12 year, which is very good. Need to go shopping again.

I picked up a bottle of 2015 Bushmills 21 on sale for somewhere around $120 or so, and I managed to hold off opening it for quite some time. I still have a 5oz woozy saved for a special occasion. While you can tell it's low proof, it doesn't taste watered down, and it is really fantastic. Sad that it's gone up so much in price, otherwise I would buy more of it (: My nosing/tasting notes: "Aroma is inviting, you have fruit along with caramel, toffee and vanilla. It's simply amazing. Taste is full of body, you get nice sweet fruit and wood, along with some spices. Lots of layers going on and every time you take a sip you find something new. Finish has a lot of wood along with some spice and malt. Rated 4.5/5.0"

Hope to find that out at a restaurant sometime to try. Can't afford the bottle but a pour will do. Cheers and glad you're prepping the van. Let the adventures begin.

Bushmills 21 is available almost everywhere. It’s pricey. Love the Apricot note! I get that as well from the Bourbon Cask. Great Review!! Loving all the Irish Whiskey content!

I know it’s no longer a Diageo product, but the low ABV, chill-filtering and (likely) added coloring makes it seem like most in their stable. In principle (and the price) I would avoid it for those reasons. I do have the Redbreast 21 and absolutely love it. But sadly, being currently stricken by the deadly Covid-19 global pandemic virus (you may have heard tell of this on the news) I am unable to sample anything (other than broth and water). I may also be a tad delirious 😵‍💫. So, please disregard most of this rambling comment. Great job though, guys! 🤗

IDL uses artificial coloring as well. Be careful if you are adverse to that.

@@4LeafWhiskey I do believe, and I could be wrong (as I usually am according to my kids), that the RB 21 and RB 12 (CS) are both without colouring and chill-filtration. Can’t speak for the whole lineup, but that’s what I’ve been able to gather.

We only tried a pour of it in Ireland and it was good, but we prefer the 12 above it. Perhaps we were too novice to appreciate the subtlety of it though.

I had a small sample of Redbreast 21 at a Whisk(e)y event several years ago, but other than thinking it was really tasty and wanting more, I don't recall anything else about it. The Redbreast 15 is quite good as well, and has just a bit more proof than the standard Redbreast 12, which to me is a little bit thin.

Have not seen Kurt do a Irish Whiskey review. Why are most Rish Whiskies, especially the expensive ones, bottled at 40% ABV? $300, really?
