  • Today was our first full day in Berlin, and we spent it exploring many of the well known tourist sites and buildings. Using the underground and walking we found Berlin to be a very easy city to navigate around on your own.
The sites we visited and which are included in this video include:
    1. The Brandenburg Gate
    2. Reichstag German Parliament Building
    3. Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
    4. Stroll down Unter Den Linden visiting shops!
    5. Berliner Dom or Berlin Cathedral
    6. Mary's Lutheran Church
    7. Berlin Tower - we did not go up
    8. The Red Town Hall and the DPB Cup
    9. The World Clock in Alexanderplatz
So, a very busy day, with food and coffees too, and a lot seen.

Thanks so much Dave. I'm struggling getting the motivation to process the footage but I will get there slowly but surely. Sadly, we've had to postpone our trip to the Lake District in September and move it to May 2025 - we've had to do that as we had a major diary clash looming but we will definitely be back. So for this year we will have to watch the Lake District through videos like yours! All the best, Ashley

Love the video Ashley, we visited Berlin last September. A very interesting city with a lot of history.

Thank you Paul for your kind words. We spent 2 full days in Berlin and a will have a video of the 2nd day out shortly. We loved the place and enjoyed being able to get to all the siters and places ourselves, at our own speed. Regards, Ashley

Mighty stuff. A lot of memories came flooding back there of what I had forgotten of the place, the world clock, the Reichstag Building (don’t know how I forgot there), and Alexanderplatz was the main subway I used. Well captured as always, them buildings have some amount of history about them. I’d say there was a good step count that day 👍.

Thanks Geoff, we did about 20-25k steps each day in Berlin even though we used the underground a lot too. The history is everywhere in Berlin, we were pleased that it's been preserved and remembered so well. Didn't go up the tower though, 30 euros for a lift and a view, plus an hour queuing didn't appeal to us - if it was 5 euro that might have been different!! Thanks again for watching, regards, Ashley

Second time watching and writing a comment, almost finished both and we had a 3 hour power cut last night, so lost it all😡. To summarise I said I was impressed by some of the buildings but found it hard to associate them together with the horror of what happened in the 1930s. I did not like the concert blocks at all and (imo) I would have preferred a garden of remembrance where people could sit in quiet contemplation. I did like the cathedral that was stunning and the dome was unbelievable and well worth all the steps to the top for that view. Agree on 30 Euros for a trip to the top of the tower, to see a view you have already just seen. Didn't see the significance of the Neptune Fountain but it was an impressive sight, as was the World Clock. Good tour, especially if you were carrying a couple of those great sandwiches you showed at the end! Cheers Alan

Thanks Alan, always love your humour and honesty. I thought the concrete blocks was a bit cold and unemotional too but at least they had something substantial. The trip to Auschwitz was a lot different - spoiler alert - got to 1000 subscribers this week so did an ad hoc video on the iphone with some dog walks - I'm still amazed anyone watches at all but then TV programs are so bad!! Thanks again for all your support and encouragement, Ashley

Hi Ashley, cracking view over Berlin from the top of the Cathedral. No problem for you climbing those steps after all your mountain walks. We have seen plenty of the Brandenburg Gate on TV recently due to the football. Plenty to see in Berlin, a good start to your trip. Cheers. Eddie.

Thanks Eddie, great to hear from you. Yes, we didn't realise at the time that the city was getting ready for the Euros! I climbed quite a few towers on this trip but no mountains alas. Hope all is good with you and Carol. Due to family reasons we've had to move our Lake District trip from September to May next year, all will be revealed why soon! But we've also had to move our New Zealand trip forward to going in November this year instead - hopefully we'll get your weather then!! All the best, Ashley

@ashleyjarnold Hi Ashley, New Zealand sounds fantastic, it is somewhere we would love to go. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos from your recent trip. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

I'm too slow at the editing!! We've both had very bad colds in the past 2 weeks, Andrea is still not at her best but hoping she'll be ready for a few more adventures in July.

@ashleyjarnold I know what you mean about the editing, I have loads of footage from Lake Garda last year which I have not done anyway with.

I have 14 days of the holiday still to edit!! Just done a short video with our daughter's dog that I was looking after - I hit 1000 subscribers this week - so have done the video as a thank you and to landmark the occasion. I don't really know how it's happened - there is hope for everyone!!
