There is a certain ambiance about this scene, the lighting, the music. It stayed with me even as a 10 year old to now mid 40s. The only thing weird about it is how few other patrons there are in that pub/cafe, but maybey it's near closing time.
It was supposed to be very late at night …..”What can you tell me about a maniac hacking away with a broadsword at 3 o’clock in the morning New York City 1985??”
Even as a kid...that scene always got me. Great Lambert is so out of world/ out of place there, Queen drags you down so smoothly, the garden, ...that look. Kind of magic! When you got a girl beside you, ...love will go ...anytime.
It certainly gets your attention, it's not exactly standard camera work, lots of weird angles and also the edits and transitions were weird in this movie. You can tell the director came from a music video background.
To be honest they should call a double glenmorangie on the rocks a "highlander" so when you walk in to that bar you can just say: Can I have a Highlander please XD haha
Almost all bartenders in North America mispronounce Glenmorangie. (They pronounce it Glen-muh-RAN-gee.) I've never been sure if the barkeep here is responding specifically to MacLeod's correct pronunciation, as though he's just been reminded of how it should be pronounced.
I don't know who was the character actor as the bartender, but: the way he responded to a regular's extra demand with "..ho!", and then kept looking into her eyes thrice to do the ".. wait, you really want this much".. annd then the way he corrected himself on a prononciation issue that only a TRUE Scotsman would give ("..glennMORangie, right.."). No, for reals, this bartender very well deserves some love, in the character actor hall of famoe, for how stiff he kept his lip in this important scene :)
James Bond = martini. The Big Lebowski = the white russian. Sideways = pinot noir. It's sooo neat when a certain beverage/cocktail becomes immortalized in cinema!
Connor is thristy of Brenda since he saw her taking lab pieces od his iron in the Madison's garage, and she is the only police with brains for discover who he really is. So in their whole scenes: he wants hit, she wants know about his weapon, the katana and why has been used in another era different .
Imagine that you are immortal and you was born in 1518. Now you wear jeans instead of kilt and hide yourself, and why dont you drink Glenmorangie on the rocks? May be you just tired of clean?
Actually, according to the director of the Glenmorangie distillery, it's acceptable to drink their single malt neat, with a bit of water, or with one or two ice cubes.
Maybe not a normal Highlander, but the man has travelled the world for over 4 centuries, tried many booze including his local stuff in different ways. Probably used to it by now.
People getting worked up over the way Connor orders the Glenmorangie. You’re forgetting that he is 467 years of age at this point (1518-1985). He’s probably drank that much of the stuff that he’s ‘experimented’ with the drink and found a niche way of drinking it. He’s seen so many different worlds, cultures, customs….the whiskey to him is no longer a traditional Scottish dram, it’s more of a cocktail of sorts 😂
This Movie is for me One of the best 80's Movies ! Christopher Lambert is good, but Clancy Brown is for me the better Actor in the Movie 🙂 The Church scene is the best 😊
One of my favorite movies, though I never understood casting a heavily accented Frenchman as a Scott and the world's favorite Scottish actor as an Egyptian by way of Spain.
Lambert was big, especially in France and Greystoke a year earlier put him on the map in other countries. I heard he auditioned for James Bond. You imagine Bond with that accent? 😂
If you read into it, Lambert was cast because of his timeless ‘look’. He really looks like someone who has been around for centuries. He has an aura of mysticism about him. A great choice in my opinion. As for Connery playing an Egyptian let’s not forget he was playing a character who was born 2437 years ago, so the Scottish accent (at least in my opinion) is trivial.
Great music, but this scene is confusing. Is she going through a break up, what is she down about? Is he trying to cover his tracks at this point or already likes her?
I think he was just intrigued by her when he saw her collecting evidence at the crime scene. In the script she's described as being strikingly beautiful, which might explain MacLeod's stalker-ish behaviour a little better. (Plus he also wants to find out how much the police know about him.) The original casting for the part was Catherine Mary Stewart, but she pulled out at a late stage and Roxanne Hart (who was mainly a stage actress) stepped in. Although Hart's okay, I never thought she worked that well as MacLeod's romantic interest in the movie.
+KingKaitain There's also the fact that while Connor is over a couple hundred years old and well versed in the cultures, he doesn't have very many social skills that can relate to the modern world. So even when he's trying to make small talk, it comes off as stalker-ish. This was more or less one of the ways that show he is a stranger to this land even if he's been here many times in many hundreds of years. +Golkarian as for why she was down it was because she discovered at the crime scene a metal piece from Connor's sword wedged into the pillar in the parking garage. Since metallurgy in sword forging is a major hobby of hers that she's even wrote some research books on, she was wondering where it came from. In her words, there is no sword in the modern world, that has been folded 200 times. She's down because no one took that factor seriously even the cops didn't know nor cared even though it would have linked Connor to Fasil's murder.
@@KaitainCPS Wow, Catherine Mary Stewart would've worked far better than Roxanne Hart. You're right, there wasn't much chemistry between them on screen. But Catherine Mary Stewart, which is the girl from The Last Starfighter, is a real stunner. Too bad she couldn't play the part. Thanks for the info.
No self-respecting Scotsman would put ice in his whiskey, and he wouldn't do it to make it cold, but to cut it, and Glenmorangie is a whiskey that hardly needs cutting.
The music by Queen really elevates this movie.
Right.
The scene with Who Wants To Live Forever gets me tearing up and I don’t care who knows.
The other highlanders should NEVER have been made. This is a classic
There can be only one.
Or the show.
Highlander 1 & even 3 was Great the others that's a different story
I didn't mean to report anybody I accidentally hit the wrong button
I'm a little drunk and I watched the bar scene of this movie I loved it since I was a kid
"One Year of Love" by Queen is a beautiful and sad song. I
"One Year Of Love"
One of my favourites song from Queen. I love it!
Mat. and Lav. And written by their wonderful bass player, John Deacon.
One Year Of Love is a very underrated song.

Such a sad and depressing scene. Connor was alone most of his immortal life and he won't let anyone get close to him and love him.
Well he makes a lot of dirty Things to Brenda in the movie. So finally found someone
Simply amazing soundtrack to a simply amazing film and it never gets old
Always thought that the background music in scenes affects how we feel/respond to the movie and this scene just proves it for me
Deanna Essam but in reality there would be half a dozen other people at the bar getting pissed, this scene is so fictional.
I totally agree.

*been saying Glen More An Ng ee for years !
That is actually a great idea
This song is incredible and the way Freddie sings it straight from the depths of his soul 💔
This is the ONLY Highlander film.
There can only be ONE: THIS ONE.
Agree.
You nailed it. I can't watch the others they ruin it.
They never made any more.
Canon Fodder
Another great song from the pen of John Deacon
best song ever, John and Freddie nailed it!
Thanks to this scene I discovered Glenmorangie. Thanks Highlander! PS: Never on the rocks, always neat.
Me, too.
Me too ! Also I’m sure a true high lander wouldn’t order it on the rocks !
I totally agree
What is Brenda drinking?
Look like cognac to me
The best love song ever, I love the scene ❤
I love this scene, and I love this movie and Queen! Henry don't fail us!
The BEST movie EVER MADE.!!!!!!!
And also the BEST band EVER.!!!!
Drinking a double Glenmorangie on the rocks right now
1:27
If that's a double, I need to have a word with the bar-stewards around here.
Such a unique film!
Great song.i Love it
such a good part and song....im fallin apart...all around uuuu
look at the lighting of this scsne - it is one of a kind

Quando la scena trova proprio un equilibrio totale con la musica, ecco qui…Meravigliosa!!
Who needs blade Runner with this NY 80s dark landscape
I don't drink and difficultly go to a bar. But, when I think bar music, this come to my mind\o/
Brenda got one of the rawest deals of any of the Highlander girls.
Brenda and Heather, probably Rachel are the only 3 Highlander women. Series and sequels so crappy do not exist for the true fans
pandemic 2020. Who wants to be sitting in a pub having a glenmorangie listening to queen?
James Bond = martini. The Big Lebowski = the white russian. Sideways = pinot noir. It's sooo neat when a certain beverage/cocktail becomes immortalized in cinema!
Magic
This scene makes me want a whiskey
Best scene ever!
The best is the Scene in the Church 🙂
But the Song to the Scene is the Best 😊

💗 that Queen music...
1:18 Best Bit.
A scotsman NEVER would drink a Glenmorangie Single Malt „on the Rocks“. One big fault in an amazing Movie.

Agree with vidright... criminal having ice, might as well pour coke over it too as well as the ice to kill the taste completely
@@MrGolanheights The way to resolve this dispute is to have two.
Whisky is commonly drunk with a dash of water. That's how I drink it.
Not likely that a highlander would order a single malt whisky 'on the rocks'. But hey, Hollywood.
Maybe not a normal Highlander, but the man has travelled the world for over 4 centuries, tried many booze including his local stuff in different ways. Probably used to it by now.
@@Shanethefilmmaker Exactly. The man has lived for 4.5 centuries so he may have ‘experimented’ with booze, to say the least.
When I was married, I set this as the ringtone from my Wife...sweet song & she was a sweet lady...always think of her when I hear this song..
Come back with her. Ask her x a 2nd chance. She can expell the new husband out

Highlander is a great movie
And they should have stopped at that
The rest were terrible
Highlander endgame was good because it was a direct sequel to this so ignored Highlander 2 and 3.
The series was really good
This picture its perfect. Queen in the soundtrack too
hell of a double.

Yes of course
The original is the best and Clancy Brown is an excellent choice as the Kurgan.
she drains that drink pretty quick
0:32 - 0:35 she downed that quick lol
Like the main of us in the end of our depressing days...😵
Great scene
GlenMorangie with ice???

Classic
glenmorangie served in a tall glass with ice.... not really the Scottish way
He's not trying to give himself too much away. The Scottish side and his immortal sense of self-preservation are in constant bickering.
Great movie
Did anyone else notice keep yourself alive video playing in the background
Great scene but the street location of the bar at the beginning of the scene is different to when he leaves?

what was the music video that was playing in the background
+lostone13 The song is called One Year of Love by Queen, who did the soundtrack for this movie.
They didn't do the soundtrack per se; they contributed several songs, and the main score is by Michael Kamen.
Yup. I know.
- A double Glenmorangie on the rocks!
- Glenmorangie? Right!
Deberian subir la pelicula completa en esta calidad seria genial con subtitulos en español
0:08 what music of queen Is?
One Year of Love

This Song is in the Album: A Kind of Magic

The dating scene in 2023😂
Hahah, yeah well, I tried to emulate Connor's flirting strategy as a teenager. Came off creepy and took me nowhere. I had more luck in my 30s. Lol.

Just bought a bottle of Glenmorangie last night.
Nice. I have a 10 y bottle as well.
Surely he would ask for something better than Glenmorangie, and never on the rocks. What kind of Highlander would taint his whisky with ice?
Yeaah! You got it.
David Broughall one that likes it cold. Also that brand may have some sort of sentimental meaning to him.

@Basic_Assumption, 'on the rocks' literally means 'with ice'.

Anyone knows what Brenda is drinking?
Port?
About what is Brenda drinking?
It’s a really good scotch. I by the 12 year old all the time. They have a really good 18 yr old one that’s worth the price.
Jesus Christ he's ordering glenmorangie not Johnny Walker red label
