This is actually in my top five songs of everything from Steve Perry. You can hear the passion and hunting pain come through his voice and eyes.
Steve has never married but continues to write and record his music. As you notice , his style of singing is absolutely heart felt!

Still listening to Steve in 2024. I cry every time I hear this song, makes me sad that Steve never got married but he is not alone he has his beautiful daughter and his two grandchildren. I always pray for Steve that if he doesn’t know Jesus that he will.
Peope believe he wrote this for his mother, but during his concerts when touring for the "For Love of Strange Medicine", he told the story of this song, and it was written for his ex-girlfriend Sherrie. She is the one he wrote "Oh Sherrie" for. He said he came home while being gone for a while, and there was a voice message on the phone from her. I believe that he was with a different girlfriend at the time. He said that he didn't call her back, but he decided that it was still okay to miss her. That is where the idea for this song came from.

Steve Perry now and forever will always have the most perfect voice ever!! Glad to have been a child in the 70s and teen in the 80s when Journey was at their best!! Steve is AMAZING live also!
This song was about his former girlfriend Sherrie. But you speculated on how Steve is now. Steve said that he believed he had a good heart but that a heart is not complete until it is completely broken. The loss of Kellie was devastating to him. But he has. chosen to keep his promise to her and not be isolated as he was before meeting her. He is sharing his music with us all again, making the world a brighter place. He seems to be in a very good place in his life now.

OMG...I have not heard this song since my husband died 6 years ago, and I believe this was heaven sent at the right time. It just brought me one step closer to reconciliation and peace with losing my best friend, soul mate, and love of my life. Thank you!
Just so you know, Steve is 74 and NEVER married. Neal Schon married 5 times. Jonathan I think 2x but not sure. Lots of hurt in all those years to write about. This one is so beautiful! Want to listen to Steve's fun side....listen to his duet with Kenny Loggins "Can't Fight It" and the audio "Can't Stop"! LOL Can't Stop is so fun!!! Oh also "I Believe" off Street Talk"!!! Want to hear Steve SOAR, listen to "Somewhere there's hope" off FTLOSM album. Jonathan Cain said in an interview that Steve "bled" every time he took that stage! Steve only knows how to sing with the HUGE soul God gave him. I for one am so so thankful Steve answered the purpose God put on his heart! Listen to Journey's last album with Steve "Trial by Fire". You will hear God in that album!

When you made the whole speech about experiencing time with loved ones, however long, it made me think of Kellie. She and Steve were only together for a year and a half but he seemed to truly cherish every moment he spent with her. I've heard that he was even going to marry her, but unfortunately she passed away before that could happen. I hope and pray they will see each other again someday. (As well as everyone else Steve has lost. RIP.)

There are more really great songs from "For the Love of Strange Medicine" album and really great songs from Street Talk, Traces, Greatest Hits, The Very Best of Steve Perry, that really show what Steve can do. He even has a new Christmas album, "The Season". We'll get into some incredible Journey song's another time. steve perry has some good songs on his first solo album "street talk". it came out in 1984. i feel that steve perry and his songs are very underrated.
Wow, I haven't heard this song for years! I bought Steve Perry's 'For the Love of Strange Medicine' album when it came out in 1994. I was a teenager at the time and I really loved that album, and the song 'You Better Wait' was a hit and I suggest checking that one out, as well. After this album, Steve would release one more album with Journey ('Trial by Fire' in 1996) and then basically disappear from the music scene for the next 22 years. He finally released his third solo album, 'Traces' in 2018.
I definitely recommend checking out "I Stand Alone", "Oh Sherrie", "You Better Wait", "Strung Out" and more recent "No Erasin'".
In regards to Steve's Journey era, "Suzanne" is a small gem really worth listening to :)

Steve never married, he was an only child he lost his mother while he was with journey. After he left journey he met a girl named Kelly Nash they were together for a year and a half and she passed away to breast cancer, Steve never got over that
I saw an interview where he said she made him promise to not shut the world out and keep going before she passed.

He never married, Sherrie, the girl who he wrote the song, ‘Oh Sherrie’ was his first love, but his crazy career couldn’t sustain the relationship. They went their separate ways (another song about their relationship). He met a woman who was terminally I’ll & they were together for about 2-3 years, after she passed he grieved another 2 years & then in 2018 he started writing songs again. His latest songs are a clear indication of his heart breaks. Just some fyi ❣️
He also dated a woman for 9 years; Robyn, in the 1990s. I bc hope she inspired this song

Hey Devin, he did have a wife that died. If this song is about that wife, she had him promise before she died to go back to his music. He didn't make music for several years after she died.

I did not care for this Steve Perry song. Just a little too melancholy for me. His voice of course is lovely, but for some reason I could not find the melody in the song. The host however is outstanding and I enjoy listening to him very much. He would make an excellent Life Coach
