There And Back Again : Hauser Geode Beds And California BEES!

  • Today we journey to the Hauser Geode Beds in hope of finding a decent spot to search for geodes. The road there was an uncertain path for most of the trip, but we eventually did find the main part of the geode beds. I do find some geodes, but the hunt is cut short because I get swarmed by some very thirsty honey bees. The desert there is in a drought and water is very hard to find for both man and beast. I have a separate video of just my bee encounter that I posted earlier on my channel. I did leave the bees a nice water hole of water that hopefully helped them out for a little while longer.
    If you visit the beds, please be aware the bees are only thirsty (and possibly hungry for sugar water too) and won't sting you unless you hurt them. Maybe you can put out some water for them (away from your vehicle) and if you have any sugar water to give, I'm sure they would be much obliged.
    Here is my Hauser Geode Bed Bee video in its entirety if you are interested: • The Bees Are Thirsty M...
    About Aquachigger:
    I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
    metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my CZcams "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.

    I went to the Hauser geode beds a dozen times with pals in the 1990's to collect them. The beds cover an extensive area but the diggings are always in the hills. The volcanic ash bed with the most was softer than the one you were picking at. Pals collected buckets of small ones (2-3 inches across). The small geodes were always solid, no hollow center.. But cut into thin slabs, they are beautiful. I have a couple halves on my office desk. My best is a 9 incher with a hollow center.

    Excursion to Corn Springs road off hi - way 10..followed the springs road to springs, then the road goes behind the Chocolate Mountains. Rocky with sand washes...goes too good area,all volcanic cones , blue, purple round rocks. Younger volcanic cones , some geodes have not " matured" to hollow crystal formation.... Best part is you do not have to dig. The geodes have been eroded off the bottom off the cones. Just pick up want you want. This is a good time of year to go there, can get to 115-120 F in the summer...! Good luck !

    Just re-watched this one as I really do enjoy the desert. Reminds me of a time when I had daily access and I would either head to the mountains or the desert. Took a bad spill in the desert, hitting a rock that threw me from my bike. Learned it wasn't a good idea to go as far out as I did without anyone knowing where I had gone. I'm not always a fast learner😜. I've seen plenty of geodes, but this is the first time I've seen them in their native habitat. 😉Bees seem to follow you wherever you go! • @aserta
    @aserta Před 2 lety

    The geode layer would be everywhere in that area, actually. It's just that in that specific spot where people dig, it's exposed to the surface. I mean, the entire zone was covered in ash at some point. Not gonna bet on it (sometimes it's pretty deep) but could've stopped at 2:20, dug a hole down and likely found it right smack in the middle of the road.
    Figured this in Tunis, where there's an exposed vein where they were digging geodes by basically cutting the back of it, and going across the whole exposed face (something like ~10 meters or so). And you could see the entire laid ash undulating up and down, sometimes nearly peaking up top, sometimes dipping all the way down where the new floor was.

    Wow! I used to find Geodes in a entirely different environment than that. I found them in cracks of a solid limestone creek bed in Southwestern Ohio. It seemed that where cracks intersected each other was a good place to find them. It was as if certain minerals would get stuck in those areas and collect over many years (since the creation of the earth) and then build up to become a geode kind of the way a pearl is formed in an oyster. They are irreplaceable (once you find it and remove it from its crack in the limestone, another one doesn't grow back in its place). This horizontal bed of limestone was only covered with water part time. Water would run down its gentle slope very slowly and sometimes only where the cracks were. It is possible that there might be some I haven't found because they are under water. I don't know for sure what causes them, I was just guessing. I wish you could of been with me back in the 1970's when I found them. Your videos are fun to watch, but you didn't look like you were having a fun time. Lol :)

    Watch out for those bees! Great video! I think a hand sledge and wedge would make getting the geodes better, the thunder eggs when cut in slices look way more beautiful then in raw state, least that's what I have found. I would look for stone out croppings and little cracks like what you were in to see the layers. I am wondering what part of Cali you are at? I had gone way out to Amboy crater and found some out that way years ago, but man what a long ride! I think they have some open mining in Blythe that allows people to go through their tailings, but that's probably too far north from you.
