1)It assumes that Gaster was around during Chara's time in the underground when it could've been way before that.
      2)It also assumes Chara's intentions
3)It is not implied that the buttercup pie was meant to be poisonous it just happened to explain how Chara knew they were poisonous
4)Asgore does not use the 6 human souls he just collects and contains them
      5) the timeline for who did what and when is janky for Mettaton,Undyne, sans and papyrus
      6) The determination experiments were an alternative to killing humans as Asgore didn't want to and they could've been at any point in the timeline
      7) Alphys does not have a crush on Asgore
      8) We don't know what Flowey did when he first woke up, that is just random theories

  • @Seraserastria
    @Seraserastria Před rokem +587

I don't think I've ever seen such blatant misinterpretation of Chara's character. Chara is implied to have fallen down that hole in an effort to uh, not be around anymore. It is implied their hatred of humans might have stemmed from how they treated them. They LOVED their monster family and NEVER wanted to kill a monster, they wanted to save them because they thought they were better. Monsters helped them, humans hurt them. It's the mentality of a child. Asgore was ACCIDENTALLY poisoned, which is where they got the idea to unalive themselves, so Asriel could take their soul. With their combined souls, they could leave the underground, where Chara wished to kill 6 more humans. The reason is that the barrier keeping the monsters underground can only be destroyed by 7 human souls, and since Chara counted as one, they just needed 6 more. Asriel didn't want to kill anyone, and refused to kill them, but was mortally wounded by the attack and died just as they entered back into the underground.
They didn't mention Asriel's death, which led to your confusion on Asgore's motive. He didn't attack humanity because of the pie, it was because both of his children, and their souls, were lost forever due to the humans murdering them. Also he never used the souls he killed to make himself stronger? He kept them in storage, so he could only use them when he collected all seven he needed to break the barrier keeping them underground.
While there is no definitive answer for why Sans is as strong as he is, many assume it has something to do with Gaster, the former royal scientist. The reason for this is because both his and his brother's origins are unknown, and one of Sans' attacks is called a Gaster Blaster. The reason I believe Sans is so strong is mainly due to knowing how to manipulate the game. He is statistically the weakest monster, but he plays the game to his advantage. He can only do one damage, but he doesn't let you have invincibility frames, and fills your screen with attacks. He can attack you while you sort through your menus. He even prevents the player from doing anything, since he understands that in turn-based combat, nothing can happen if he decides to just not do anything.
Alphys does not hide her experiments because of Flowey, it is because of the Amalgamates. She felt indescribably guilty, having turned people's loved ones into horrifying monsters. She would hide away and become a recluse, scared of facing the families she destroyed.
Flowey has Asriel's essence, or whatever, because Asriel died on those flowers. When a monster dies, they turn to dust, and Asriel's dust spread over Asgore's entire garden. He died here because Asgore has his garden right next to the exit out of the underground, where Asriel just returned from.
Yes, Chara does worm their way into Frisk when they fall onto the grave. Chara is heavily implied to be the narrator of all the flavour text in the game whenever the player interacts with anything. Chara's outlook on life is changed depending on what the player does, with the narrator being accepting and friendly during a Pacifist run, but becomes more and more deranged on a Genocide run (where the player kills all the characters).
And no, Flowey does not have Chara's soul. Once Asriel's body dissipated both souls essentially stopped existing. Flowey is Asriel's dust + Determination, no soul, no emotions. Chara was thought to be completely dead, but at least a small piece of the soul hung on within Chara's grave and then became part of Frisk. Also neither Toriel nor Asgore know who Flowey is, throughout the entire game. Maybe in some previous timeline, but not anymore.
Papyrus isn't a nonce, just socially inept. First off, he doesn't know Frisk is a child as they have no way of telling how old a human is, having not seen one in their lifetimes. Secondly, he never held romantic intentions for Frisk, he was just told that romance is the next level after friendship and applied it literally, having never had a friend before. Thirdly, he was the one to admit that he doesn't feel any romantic attraction towards Frisk, and doesn't even know what the hell a date is. No weird behavior involved other than just being a bit dumb.
Also Undyne never invites Frisk, she feels embarrassed that Frisk had to save her and hates them for it. They only became friends after Papyrus, being socially inept, brought the two of them together and forced them to hang out, where they eventually became friends.
Frisk battles Muffet because she was tricked. It's implied that Flowey gave her false information that Frisk was a spider racist, and Muffet resolved to kill Frisk for insulting the spider race (also because Flowey promised a lot of money for Frisk's soul). This was resolved during their fight, and Muffet realises the error she made.
They also missed the part that Alphys tricked Frisk as well. Alphys asked Mettaton to attack Frisk, so she would be able to guide Frisk safely and be a hero in her own right, emulating her favourite characters from anime, as well as hoping to be useful to someone for once. Mettaton betrays her in the final fight against him, locking her outside and planning to steal Frisk's soul and escape the underground, but he has a change of heart as said in the video.
They really skipped Photoshop Flowey there, huh. So Frisk battles Asgore in their climactic fight, and Frisk spares Asgore right at the end. As they breathe a sigh of relief, neither one of them truly wanting to kill the other, Flowey pops up and gets the last hit in on Asgore. With Asgore dead, Flowey easily steals the 6 stored human souls. With these souls, Flowey transforms into that monstrous beast, Photoshop Flowey (or Omega Flowey, whichever you prefer). Flowey, with his newfound power, kills Frisk over and over again as they constantly reload their file, waiting for the player to give up. But after a while, the human souls are able to fight back against the one possessing them, and free themselves from Flowey, providing aid to Frisk and defeating him. Frisk spares Flowey's life and leaves the underground, ending the game with a Neutral ending. Flowey pops up at the end, speaking directly to the player, telling them they can get a better ending if they use their power to reload their file once more and help some other monsters who need it.
Flowey's plan was actually to have the player bring everyone together, and once that was done, Flowey could absorb all of their souls, along with the 6 human souls from before, at the same time. The souls of all the monsters in the underground are equivalent to a single human soul, meaning that Flowey now has the equivalent of 7 human souls, which is the strongest anyone has ever been in the Undertale universe, bringing Asriel back as what is essentially a god.
Sans doesn't escape Flowey's bonds because, as I mentioned earlier, his power is pretty much just breaking the fourth wall. Also likely because Flowey has 6 human souls at this point, a power that Frisk only defeated because the souls rebelled against the one who possessed them.
And yes, both Frisk and Chara are non-binary. Toby Fox exclusively uses they/them pronouns with both of them. While one can make an argument that at least one of them is meant to be a player surrogate, the characters are more fleshed out than simple character-inserts, and I would argue that at least one of them is meant to be their own person.
We have no definitive answer as to how the humans reacted when the monsters returned. Since racism never goes away, I would imagine that they still face heavy discrimination, but it is now an era where we do not have the magic to seal them away again. Or perhaps we do not fight them out of fear. Or maybe we have progressed enough as a society since then that we don't hate indiscriminately.

    Few explanations to some misconceptions:
Well you see the reasons monsters lost the war is because humans are actually far stronger due to having physical power, while monsters are mostly made of magic.
Gaster is actually not known by anybody in the canon timeline and is mostly fandom speculation, however there are certain events that can happen where you have a CHANCE to see what is thought to be Gaster. This happens when a new game is started, the game rolls a random number between 1 and 100 if it is a certain value he appears in a room in one of the areas in the game.
Chara actually wanted to free all the monsters with Asriel by using their own soul and getting 6 more to destroy the barrier, they made a plan with him and poisoned themselves with the buttercups. After which Asriel absorbed their souls. When on the surface the other humans had misunderstood the situation thinking Asriel had killed Chara. Chara wanted to use their full power to protect both of them but Asriel refused. After getting away with Chara's body and getting home he died in the garden spreading his dust in the garden.
Toriel left not for the plan but because Asgore could go to the surface after getting a soul, going out getting the 6 souls and freeing everyone peacefully and instantly instead of waiting and letting their people lose hope.
As for Asgore he didn't need the 6 souls to be powerful as he is a Boss monster (Boss monsters are only much more stronger and resilient.)
Sans and Papyrus are implied to being incredibly strong. This may be due to Gaster, since there are fan theories that painting Gaster as their parent or at least Sans an assistant to him. This is due to Sans using weapons called 'Gaster Blasters'
Papyrus wasnt friends with Undyne until she started to train him. The reason it happened is that one day he went to her house and begged her to let him be in it when it was midnight. When she shut the door on him she saw him still waiting there so she gave in. But instead of fighting she decided to teach him to cook instead, because he most likely couldn't kill anyone even in the heat of battle. This is proved through him being the only monster you CANNOT die to (Because Toriel can still kill you if you aim it to happen.)
As for Muffet she was just there since she wasn't intended in the story (She was a Kickstarter boss that got added in.)
Frisk is implied to have the literal soul of Determination itself, giving them the power to completely take the reset and save functions. Since well... all souls of humans possess determination but they all have different traits, such as Kindness or Justice or Bravery to name a few.
No Flowey has NO soul to speak of. However Frisk is implied to have woken Chara's soul up when they fell. Chara follows them around in True Paci, watching them and encouraging them, being the narrator.
No no one knows Flowey is Asriel. He did that exactly once and after that he thought to go under 'Flowey' as to not stir up any unneeded emotions they have.
Undyne is not grateful she just leaves. It is because of after hanging out with Papyrus he calls during the chase with Undyne if you wnat to go hang out with her. If you do then she will invite you both in. Papyrus dramatically leaves, and gives Undyne a challenge to befriend you. You hang out with Undyne and cook, before she tries to fight you but she sees the compassion and quits. The two leave the house (Because it got set on fire.) and Undyne goes to chill with Papyrus.
Muffet fights you because someone hired her to kill Frisk. Also it is because if you dont get a donut or Cider she'll think you greedy for not supporting spiders.
Alphys actually stops calling at one point since she had wrong blueprints and maps of the Core. (Not het fault btw the Core's layout is possible to shuffle around as needed by workers.)
No actually Asgore is needed to be killed since he is a boss monster and only those souls persist for long enough to be absorbed by humans.
After defeating and sparing Flowey and walking back to the start of the core Undyne calls to get you to deliver a letter to Alphys. Then afterwards Papyrus calls and tells you to go see Alphys' lab and then you get to the true lab from there.
Flowey at the end has 6 souls making him basically god level in strength Sans cannot defeat a being that strong. He is strong but not enough to face 6 souls of humans.
Asriel does not live at the very end alas. He let all the souls including the human ones go back after breaking the barrier.
Its... unknown how the humans reacted to the monsters... but most likely well? Either that or they built them their own city or something-
The reason monsters were even imprisoned was because of monster's being able to take human souls, and the humans were afraid of that power.
All in all i recommend seeing the Genocide as well
Or at leas tthe diffrences it brings!
I assure you it is worth to know.
PS: Sorry for the essay hah.
Edit: The Barrier is locked by soul power and THAT is why Asgore needed 7 souls, it takes the power of nearly every monster in the underground just to get ONE human soul.

The reason the humans are more cool with monsters is probably due to the fact that humans no longer use magic and seem to have forgotten that they can wield it at all as technology improves, because human souls can't use magic (though obviously they found some other method). Also, they feared monsters in the first place because a monster can harvest human souls, but a human can't harvest a monster soul because they shatter too fast to be used, literally only being able to stick around for like a few minutes or so. This is because human souls have determination, which makes them linger after death, while monsters can't naturally have that, or at least can't have as much as humans, because they'll melt if they do have too much.

The theory is pretty well put together and leaves very little for debate. There's two parts to the theory, but you only really need to watch part one to understand it (part two is just a follow-up, reiterating and building on the original points made). Chara is such an overlooked character, and they're really not as bad as they initially seem.

*Proceeds to describe Chara as having always been a villain, who loves no one and will do anything for bloody revenge.*
I'm not saying that, if you believe this, that your wrong (even though I disagree). However, most everything surrounding Chara is theorized. You CAN'T declare to understand Chara's reasoning behind certain actions without it being a theory. Some people think Chara is evil, others think that Chara was just trying to help, but went about it in a VERY wrong way. For a video claiming to be sticking to facts, it saddens me that nearly right out the gate, they DON'T do that. Chara is, arguably, the most controversial character in the game. There are so many unknowns surrounding their story - the "why's" of their situation and actions go mostly unanswered. We're only given context clues, based on the viewpoints of OTHER characters. There's no first-hand account from Chara themselves. So all we can do is speculate.
As far as cannon goes: Chara wanted to leave the underground - whether that was to kill humans or help free monsters is up to debate - they poisoned themselves so that Asriel could take their soul. Chara, in Asriel's body, carried their human body to the human village. When the humans saw a monster carrying a dead human child, they attacked. Chara, in that moment, wanted to kill them. Asriel refused, took back control of his (their?) body, and returned them to the Underground. They both died.
Many years later, the game commences. Chara's spirit is reawakened and attached to the player character. Depending on the players choices, Chara may turn "evil" - also debatable, depending on how you view the bad end, and Chara's actions and words in response to what you've done.
That is cannon, without speculation. Chara's past will forever be up to debate, so one shouldn't claim to understand their reasoning while also claiming it cannon in the same breath. The FACT of the matter is we don't know for sure, and likely never will. All we can do is speculate.

My Undertale lore might be a bit shot but:
Something the video never mentioned was that I think Humans are actually super powerful against monsters. I think it's said somewhere that one human can singlehandedly kill an army of monsters.
Also I think I remember hearing that Asriel's dust (Monsters turned into dust when they die) was spread on the flower bed that would eventually grow the flower that'd become Flowey.
Also Flowey DID commit suicide, that's how he realized he could restart the timeline.
Also Flowey started out being nice and trying to help people, it's only until he tried and did everything that he finally decided to kill out of curiosity.
Also, I'm not sure if Sans had any involvement with Flowey's genocide run. At max a bait and switch about Echo Flowers. Not sure where that came from.
Also, Flowey absorbed everyone's soul (Monsters and Human souls, minus Frisk), that's how he's able to come back as Asriel and also why he doesn't come with the gang to the surface. He says he'll turn back into Flowey now that he released everyone's soul.
Also, I don't know Chara's (Or Frisk's) gender. I assume they say gender neutral terms because Chara's supposed to be you (They take whatever name you input, with Chara being the real name) but idk really. Nothing directly says anything.
Also, no I don't think there's a real explanation to Sans's awareness of things. There's hints and ideas of something but nothing affirmative to my knowledge.
Also, I really don't know Chara's deal. They just exist in one route/the entire game despite being dead for a long time, I don't know if they had an influence on Asriel once absorbed, that feels like a fanon thing.

Man this timeline was really off. I've been a fan of undertale since 2017 and there were multiple plot details that they either glossed over or completely got wrong. Mostly the stuff to do with Chara, it's is heavily implied that they were an abused child or something along those lines who tried to end their life by jumping down the mountain, also are implied to be the narrator of the game and in different runs they speak very differently. For instance in the pacifist run they're very cheerful making jokes and refer to a dog food bag as half full while in the genocide route they're cold, uncaring, and refer to the dog food as being half empty (while also laughing about killing dogs). They're also not particularly evil? I mean if you complete multiple genocide runs in quick succession Chara even calls out how disgusted they are with you and how you should go do something else better with your time. They're honestly one of my favorite characters.
There's also a ton of other things they got wrong. Like how are you going to make a video and at the beginning say you're only sticking to canon but then actively insert your own personal headcanons and just blatantly say the wrong things???? Like, Chara didn't purposefully poison asgore they just got a cup of butter confused with butter cups.
There are so many other things wrong with this video but this comment is already long enough.
TL;DR: this timeline video is stinky booooo Miss represents the entire story.

Read a bunch of comments correcting a bunch of the wrong stuff in the time-line video, but one thing I didn't see anyone pointing out was that the humans won the war not just because humans are stronger than monsters, but also because the monsters didn't take a single human soul. A monster with a human soul becomes an incredibly powerful being, and a monster with *seven* human souls becomes like a god. But the monsters didn't take *any* human souls in the war. There are a few lines of dialogue that can be found talking about how some monsters think humans must be made without compassion, and you know a monster is a monster because they care, so I think one can infer that the monsters didn't take any souls because they were too compassionate to do so. Unwilling to do something they considered so heinous even at the cost of the imprisonment of their entire species. Kind of reminds me of zombie movies where someone asks 'what's the point of staying human if we lose our humanity in the process?'. The Monsters of Undertale, unlike most humans in zombie movies, chose to keep their morality even though it caused them to loose the war.

for a video claiming to only base itself on canon facts it surprisingly leaves out a few very important canon details and also bases itself on fanon theories when it comes to Chara and Gaster-
Truth be told, we have no clue *what* exactly motiveted Chara, but the game more so implied that they were on the monster's side, and wished to set them free, then them being a venguefull being that wished to destroy all humans no matter the cost.
As for why Frisk and Chara go with the "they" pronounce, it's just what the game has given to them. I don't think they ever had a canon gender, and their genders were supposed to be interpreted by whatever the player sees them as. However, this is not the case for Deltarune's main protagonise Kris, who canonly is non-binary
As for Gasters role in all of this, this video also mostly bases itself on fan theories. There are a lot of implications surrounding Gaster; but as far as we're aware, no 100% official answers. For example, the game heavily implies he was the royal scientist at some point, but the way of finding this secret is rather obsucre, and might as well be linked to a different timeline or universe bleeding into the cannon timeline. If he ever truely lived among the other monsters in this universe/timeline, everyone (except Sans possibly), has forgotten about him. ngl, pretty much anything Gaster is specualtion and fandom theories at this point in time. though he does bleed in with the story of Deltarune so far as well, mostly surrounding the secret bosses so far.

Sans isn't that powerful, he's actually the weakest enemy from the game because he has 1 HP, 1 ATK and 1 DEF. His battle is the hardest because he's smart, he keeps dodging and because of KARMA (it's like a poison mechanic) and probably because of something to do with Gaster
