Hey! Go see your doctor and ask what you can do to prevent this. Educate yourself about on the signs and symptoms of esophageal cancer so you know what to look for. There are a lot of lifestyle changes and medications you can take to improve GERD and Barrett’s esophagus that can drastically reduce your changes of esophageal cancer. Try and be as proactive as you can.

If the United States doesn’t do screening on this , how is cancer considered, unless a biopsy is done on that growth .?( tumor)

Thank you for this clear presentation. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 esophageal cancer nine months ago (adenocarcinoma and poorly differentiated neuroendocrine - which I understand is rare and aggressive). I've been treated with chemo (cisplatin & irenotecan)/radiation/esophagectomy at MSK and just had the first of 12 immunotherapy treatments with nivolumab. I'm encouraged by the potential of immunotherapy and remain cautiously optimistic about the future.

I was just diagnosed with adenocarcinoma esophagus cancer have yet to be staged. First pet scan to be done was cancelled do to the place not having the medicine before the scan they ran out. Reschedule for a week later now waiting to see oncology doc again to see how or if it spread. Now almost a month and a half not knowing what stage is got me stressed but few more days will see oncology doctor again to see where this goes.

@@sherrihicks6743 they say T2 or t3 it was cough before it spread. Now a week into radiation and chemo then a sergury after to take whole esophagus and part of stomach and lymph nodes. So I won't be in the same situation years from now. Have 6 weeks of radiation and 5 treatments of chemo they say it's a low dose chemo . I am only 39 so they don't want to leave anything behind.

Did your mum have a pet scan or ct scan to prove that she was clear. I am a public patient as opposed to a private patient in Australia so my oncologist insists there is no need for scans unless I am showing symptoms ie. inability to swallow easily, weight loss or breathlessness.

  • @Alpha_7227

As a non smoker and just very occasional drinker my oncologist just put my cancer down to bad luck. So much for science and physiology. Is there any hard evidence on whether oral sex plays any part in esophageal cancer. Why can't you suggest by the age of 45 all men have a routine endoscopy to check the condition of their esophagus. Easy screening test I would have thought. Thanks for the video, love the slides, easy to understand. I would like to know now what were my bio markers. I am taking nivolumab once a fortnight now after having surgery and cross therapy earlier. I was told by my surgical team that I was clear of cancer after surgery as far as the microscopic eye could see. I pray that the immunotherapy can keep the beast away.

He would end up throwing up which was very odd for him. We thought at first maybe it was rich food or too much. His stomach would feel bloated too. We went for a scope figuring he need his throat stretch. But Dr said he had cancer where the esophagus and stomach connect. They figured he had it for 3 years. But no issues until last February. It took him fast, at the end he couldn’t even have water with out it coming back up. I pray you don’t have this, I will keep. You in my prayers. My husband was only 67. Hope this helps.
