    Great setup brother. I'd swap the SFP to RJ45 connectors to a DAC cable, for 10GBE. reason 1, for heat, the SFP converters heat up. DAC cables or if you did short FIBER with LC transceivers would not be warm.
    Ubiquiti gear is fun and super addictive to get into the ecosystem. Im sure youll fine tune it down the road. Adding their Aggregation switch (8 port full 10Gig) between the UDM Pro and your current switch will be a nice upgrade too.
    As another FiOS Customer, run the UDM Pro as your main Router, and go from WAN on the FiOS Gateway to LAN on the UDM Pro. You only need the FiOS gateway for Video. (have them swap your COAX to Ethernet) your capping your max speed over COAX.

      Very helpful comment. I have a UDM Pro and a PRO 48-port Switch. What would adding an Aggregation Switch (8 port full 10Gig) between them do/accomplish? Thanks!

    • @crazycoastie
      @crazycoastie Před měsícem

      @@views40 allows it to be the “core” switch. With its large switching capacity. It can take all your 10g and 1g switches and aggregate them to the UDM Pro.
      If you don’t have more than one 10g switch, then it’s not really a benefit.
      Also allows you to run port aggregation (both SFP modules) to the Switch Aggregation. Double throughput or fail over. Look up some vids.

    Would love to see this set up a bit further! With the separate network for the smart devices, does one need to be logged into it to control it from their phone or do the networks communicate together?

    • @TyDaSpace
      @TyDaSpace  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You do not need to be logged in. Your Phone will be on the main network that can reach all the other networks but the other networks cannot reach your main network. Firewall rules prevents those devices from accessing your important devices like phones and laptops and security camera but your phones and laptop can talk to them.

    Great video!
    How do you make all the smart devices work with each other if some are on the IoT network and you are connected to the Main network?

    • @TyDaSpace
      @TyDaSpace  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks, something called firewall rules. It allows devices on the main network to reach devices on all the other networks but devices on the other networks cannot reach the main. It’s just one way.

  • @dawidlelito
    @dawidlelito Před 2 měsíci

    why you do not use DAC cable to connect UDM with switch? Or normal sfp cable and have 10GB connection and port isolation (on currency)

    • @TyDaSpace
      @TyDaSpace  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Dawid, very good observation. that's also an option but what had on hand during this install was SFP. We are still planning to do more upgrades to this rack later. This is just the basic. There are so many ways to go about this. DAC is an option if you don't already have sfps, SFP with Copper cable is also an option. In my own setup, I used Fibre SFP with Fibre Cable between my switch.
      We will be upgrading the rack to a 42U rack with bunch of of audio controls and ether lighting switches. Stay tuned for the upgrade.

      @@TyDaSpace very nice plan for upgrade. My previous home network using fully ubnt hardware but now it is pfsense as main router and firewall then connect to SFP+ Core switch and from it move to 24 enterprise model. I very do not like firewall rules in UDM

      Yes, I did that in my old house in this video
      czcams.com/video/umU-arnHV9Q/video.html
      In this video, we are actually adding more network runs (about another 48 runs) across the entire house for all the doorbells, speakers and other things but we got an electrician this time to get the wiring to those places. I will be releasing upgrade video when it is done. It is definitely possible but time consuming especially when it is something you don't do much. The electrician got the wires to all the really weird spot really fast and easy.
