So nice to see her muckin about doing her thing and having a laugh without the mask on! She's beguilingly enigmatic, hiding Annie Clark behind whatever her current St Vincent persona is but then there's the odd thing goes up on CZcams where she's just a relaxed brilliant musician and singer and song-writer and articulate mischievous slightly shy person and it's really heart-warming. Saw the tour in Brixton - first gig of the tour and she hadn't quite relaxed into it (hell of a technical show). I guess she was aware also of the still-unproven risk she was taking in stripping it all back to such an aloof apparently minimalist show - really little acknowledgement of there being an audience - and the nature of the subject matter and the weight of everyone's assumptions about the rawness of the content of the new album and indeed the almost perfect wholeness of the new album (tells its story beginning to end then stops - how could that be followed with a jolly encore?!) - and awareness presumably that the direction she'd chosen could alienate some of the crowd who had come in expectation of something closer to the over-the-top shenanigans of previous tours (none of which I'd been to, but I'd seen clips!) - ALL THAT stuff she must have been coping with made it look to me like she was slightly ill at ease. Brilliant show but it was like she was performing without a safety net! But then the reviews came out and were generally positive, and word would have spread and the fans going to the next dates would have a better idea of what to expect, and she presumably would be growing in confidence about the technical side of it (getting past the "what the hell's next?" barrier to enjoyment!) . . so that by the time she got to Dublin it seems she was readier with a quip and a smile, able to let her guard/mask down a bit. Would have liked to see a later gig. Something else really interesting about this clip is that there are a couple of low-angle shots where she actually looks like David Bowie (the trench-coat robe helps!) whose mantle many a critic has said she's taking on. Interesting. Must be awful being so in the public eye and having your every clip analysed (like I'm doing now) and having to be pleasant whilst responding time and time again to the same stupid questions - which is part of what the album and tour are about and what her series of spoof all-purpose interview answers are lampooning. Brave woman - risking biting the hands that feed her - refusing to conform to the trajectory anticipated by her fans. She's fascinating, mysterious and super talented and I hope she sticks around! I'm not generally someone who identifies as a fan of anybody but she's certainly got my attention and I've looked at more clips now than I'm comfortable in admitting. Caught myself talking to my daughter (a rock diva herself about to emerge from her chrysallis) about the whole St Vincent phenomenon and had to pull myself up because I got embarrassed how much I knew about her.

I can tell by reading this very long comment, that you are so totally cool and a renaissance man, and a hipster on steroids.

    She’s so talented. I need another word. She’s “Bowie-ish”??
Also, is she in drop D? That’s pretty inside. Most real guitar players end up around drop D. See John McLaughlin and George Harrison.
    She’s a good guitarist.
