My first visit to Mumbai (Bombay) back in 1989. Video was shot on a Panasonic S-VHS cam corder, copied to computer, and edited in Final Cut Pro on an iMac. Original video is an hour - now cut down to 8 minutes to show the most interesting parts. At the time of this trip, all I knew about India was what I learned from watching the movie Salaam Bombay.
This 8 minute video is a small part of a two hour video. Maybe I should upload the whole two hour tape.
You should.
Please upload the whole two hour video. It reminisces my childhood.
yes sir please upload

Thank you so much Sir While watching dis video I was imagining like time machine. Now a days people are taking money for old Bombay videos and u upload it free. Gr8.
I love that there's no background music in this and you can feel the atmosphere ♥️👌👌

Great video . I recall all those Taxis ,many used to have numbers like MRK/MMK/MRL .
Advantage of that era was, city and traffic was much discipline than today and people used to mind their job.

Yeah now the traffic is just horrible
Purani yadein taza ho gaee

The movie poster of Salaam Bombay ! Wonderful movie...
One of my favorite movies - having no idea of what India was like, and with this movie playing in my local movie theater in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I must have watched it a dozen times to try to understand what I would find in India. Finally got a copy of the movie that plays on USA video systems.
To add to what I wrote below, VHS as I recall was 240 or 270 lines of resolution, while S-VHS was more like 400. The best format at the time was ED-Beta, which I couldn't afford, with well over 400 lines resolution. Combined with a good lens, I was very satisfied with the results. The "issues" were all my fault, not the hardware.
I miss my childhood 😭

I love my bombay very beautiful video ur new subscriber
Please spread the word - I'm in the USA, so I don't know how to reach people in India who would appreciate this video. Thanks for the kind words!
I remember in 89 ....sitting and eating ice cream on Marine Drive, as a kid.
Making a video like this in Bombay in 89 would be one years worth of sundry expenses.
I feel the breeze, the clean air.
Since I just arrived from the USA, my initial impressions of Bombay were similar to what I would feel a year or two ago, but the "reality" in my video is much nicer than what I have seen in the past few years. I had a wonderful time. I hope when the virus is gone, I'll be able to come again and enjoy being there as much as I used to. As to the camera, it was one of the most expensive video cameras available, as it recorded in S-VHS, "Super VHS", which gave the recordings much more resolution - as I recall, 400 lines per inch, compared to 270 for standard VHS.
It feels so good.:))
Just few days back we had a long drive till Marines. I am trying to guess all the areas of Mumbai. It started of with Bandra cause you can spot the famous Lucky restaurant. I also spotted Pramash hotel from Dadar.
Thanks👍
thank u so much.

Nostalgic😍
1989's Mumbai is looking like 2020's Indian Villages..
It actually did
But people with no masks😂😂
Nah villages now look much better
Every Indian city looked like a village in that time. Imagine how the villages in that time looked 🙄
Really good
Thank you god jo mera janam golden era saal 1989 me huwa really kya kushiya bara daur tha 😊
This year i born in mumbai......❤👑
The good quality is because I recorded the video in S-VHS, rather than VHS.
Nostalgia!!!

I want to travel back
Thank God we got out of socialism and after 1991 the government open up the Market for foreign investment and today we are living much life than our parents did. Still we need lot of improvement but due to privatisation and globalisation, we have better opportunity than past.
Best video

Very advance that you took the video, that's great n how you felt when you visit that place n how is the people, did you faced any difficulties while taking video
I had recently seen the movie, Salaam Bombay, and was fascinated - that was all I knew about India at the time. No, I had no difficulties at all while taking the video. It's only now that I'm back home, and I have so many other cities where I filmed India, still on the S-VHS tape, and I know I ought to do something to get them digitized and posted. Visiting India back then felt like visiting another world - everything was SO different from what I was used to. I think somebody in India with enough "presence" should or could find a way to distribute this video so that many more people can see it.

I see a lot of poverty too
Who else is watching this in 2020?
Probably not as many who would like to. I'm back in the USA, and don't know how to spread the word in India that this is now available. Maybe someone can post the link, in whatever language is best, in one of the Social Media sites? Once enough people learn about it, more will get to see it, but I don't know how to post about it in the appropriate places in India. I will return to India as soon as it's safe, so maybe I can ask about this when I'm back.
@@MikeMyers00 lol did u return to India ever since?

Hi Michael, I am a filmaker from Mumbai, I am making a short film for father's day. Its about a boy who came to Mumbai with his father in early nineties., Just wanted to ask and request you to allow me a couple of shots from here. I would be greatly thankful.
Sure, that sounds fine. Please do two things though, give me credit for the photography, and please send me a copy of your short film. Good luck! Meanwhile, I hope to upload the entire hours-long video that I made to CZcams, when/if I get time. I'll leave a note in these comments when/if this is done.
