Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.
When I first watched Bailey Sarian’s series I was completely hooked, I loved how she had combined two of the things I’m most passionate about and delivered it so well. She totally inspired me to take the leap and do the same thing on my channel, so all credit for the idea goes 100% to her.
I’m from the UK and will be covering cases from both the UK and internationally, let me know if there are any cases that you’d like to see from me! More cases will be coming soon so please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

Hey Danielle, I wanted to let you know my patient just recently passed away unexpectedly and we loved watching your videos together. She loved your accent and thought you told stories very well. If you see this by chance could you add a butterfly to you background for her. She loved them. 🦋 She was a blessing to take care of and oddly enough she didn’t think the concept of people being interested in true crime was weird. She told me to turn up Mile Higher Podcast when I put it on. Anyway, love you Danielle keep up the videos for all the beautiful humans watching! ❤️🦋

Understand, we're looking at the subject of school bullying 50 years later. We've evolved since then. The 70's were still the period of children are seen and not heard and boys bullied by their dads for getting being beat up in school. I'm not excusing his actions, rather reflecting on a point in time and how is was. She spoke of how he had a tough time getting his dad's approval so certainly his dad was the type to say man up so seeking his parents support, as we do today, wasn't how it was done....back then. Surprisingly, or not, we'd think there would be less serial killers in this day and age, but they still exist and mental illness is the culprit instead of upbringing. Despite the known outcome in court for a serial killer, they still think studying, copying, or acting "to their nature" claiming insanity will get them off the hook while the rest of us dread getting pulled over for a faulty tail light. A fix it ticket is a hassle we don't need. Lol

I lived in a house where a young girl (aged11) was murdered. God bless her. Her mum said she was happy we were moving in as she knew her daughter was in safe hands. There were a lot of strange things going on. So sad. I sometimes go to her grave as a mark of respect. Her mum passed and they are buried together xx 😢

Our house is definitely NOT a serial killer’s house, but we found out as we were moving in a young man was murdered by his “friend” in the back bedroom in 1990. We were able to find some old newspapers articles about it, but that’s all. The young man’s family continued to live there until it went up for sale 6 years ago. It doesn’t bother me or my husband. Our kids are grown and have moved out, but they swear it’s creepy and dark.

I can't tell you how many times I was jumped by other teens, it sucked. I hated high school so much. It was the worst time of my life. Literally made me depressed enough to attempt suicide. And then one of the teachers leaked it to the students and they bullied me for trying to kill myself.

I do think over the years there had been a lot more attention towards bulling but it still happens way too much.

@@marnie9063 😒that's why I hate teachers tbh I use to work in the school system and ik it's not easy for teachers to have there eyes on the kids, but some teachers suck at stopping bullying. Or even intervening, I witness them talk to the bully and the kid whose getting bullying at the same time and on the bus the kid was bullied even more. It made me soo mad seeing that. Anytime I see that I always tell the kids to stand up for themselves don't be scared of nobody and if they hit you just hit them back, and anytime they say they'll get in trouble I'll tell them no your not cause I won't report them for doing that. You know anytime I went back on those buses and work with them kids again and I see them kids I talked to, they always say what I told them worked I just smile because ik I just helped a kid from ending up with some serious issues as they get older. I feel like schools amd parents should teach there kids those same things then bullying would be less of a issue. I had cried and begged my parents to let me stay home, because as a child, i felt like they were sending me to school because they did not love me, because no one loved me. Kids would beat me with rocks or sticks, and would rip my clothing off or kick me in the chest or ribs regularly, steal my things, break my things. I was terrified of every other human being. I'm an engineer with anxiety.
Most of the time the 'bad feeling' is actually an architectural issue - drafts, poor lighting, even the aspect of the home can change the 'feeling' of a place.
For example - when you are in a brightly lit restaurant with clear open views across the room and then the bathrooms are off down a corridor, with only artificial lighting, your line of sight it cut off by stalls - it can feel really creepy. However if the bathrooms were down a corridor with windows or even artwork, then the bathrooms are separate little rooms, with high small windows, instead of darker stalls you feel more secure.
If you ever feel scared in your home then seriously consider the way it is laid out and how the light travels.
For example I switched my home layout - my bedroom is in the front of the house and the livingroom is in the back. This is because my garden is more private - making my living space more private during the day.
It also means I get up with the light and I get the evening light in my living room and garden.
Anyhoo I hope this helps someone Xx ❤️

What's important is that you don't box yourself in. Say 'I'm me, sometimes I get anxious' rather than 'i have anxiety' or I'm an anxious person'.

I do believe so too. For many people antisocial behavior develops from the environment and childhood, when we are very vulnerable and impressionable.. when we don’t know how to handle our emotions and situation. And although psychopathy can be genetic, there are a lot of people with that diagnosis who never hurt others, because they grew up in healthy environment that gave them tools to happier life.
I wish people would think about that more, so we can actually prevent tragedies from happening, only jailing people as a consequence won’t help.

You can't tell in your picture, but the blade is sharp and insanely thin (so thin that they bend with relatively little pressure) and the blade is only attached by a twisting clamp on the top of the pen, which anyone who uses them regularly could tell you that the blade is CONSTANTLY coming loose. The part about school shooters being bullied isn't true. If that was the case, a lot more sccool shootings would've been perpetrated by queer kids, overweight kids, disabled kids or black kids. These are the most likely to be bullied, but we see that they're not the school shooters. It's about entitlement. It's brats who are throwing tantrums that cost lives. While school shooters may believe that they experience social ostracization and bullying in school, it is wrong to blame bullying for their heinous crimes. There are many victims of bullying in schools and very rarely do they kill their peers. In fact, LGBTQ+ kids, kids of color, kids with physical and learning disabilities, and class-disadvantaged kids are most vulnerable to bullying. Yet, they aren’t the majority of school shooters - around 90% of high school or elementary school shooters are white, male and upper middle class. Stop perpetuating a wrong narrative.

That’s what I’ve always told my children since they were very very little and now I have 2 popular teenagers that are very kind and stick up for other kids that get picked on and it makes me so proud of them. I would tell them that if the kids look a little dirty or don’t wear cool expensive clothes or are overweight that it’s not their fault and a lot of it is because of their parents or home life and maybe they don’t have a lot of money or whatever and I would let them know how sad it is for that child and they grew up very kind and big hearted. I’ve made a ton of mistakes raising my kids and I had got addicted to pain pills that doctors put me on which I really struggled with but one thing I know I did right was how I taught my children to treat others. I feel so horrible for bullied children and adults, sadly it does still happen in adulthood! 🤦‍♀️

We have mountains of evidence that there is a correlation between insecure attachment (often observed in adopted children) and poor socioemotional development. I have no doubt that even a person born with certain tendencies, if adequately nurtured, would never act on them. I think people like the idea of "evil" being this thing that exists in a vacuum, or murder being something random like a tornado or an earthquake, because it absolves them of social responsibility. Which is not to say that those who do harm are not responsible for their own actions. They are. I just wish people were more willing to acknowledge the fact that mistreating people causes them emotional trauma and contributes to negative outcomes. No one is born a serial killer. They might be born with certain tendencies. But some percentage of their fate is in the hands of their caregivers and peers.

Occasionally, I will see comments like "why are we focusing on the killer, who cares what happened to them, they wanted this attention," but your comment is the Why. The wrongs that we commit (abuse, bullying) against others always come back in some way. We are always helping shape what the people or world of tomorrow will be like. Not everyone who goes through torment/neglect/hardship becomes a killer, or even a shitty person, because again: nature, genes, propensities, personalities, etc. But some do, and it might have been avoidable, or partially avoidable. I like to learn about the killers because it seems like in retrospect there are a lot of areas where if different choices had been made by the people around them, they might have at least harmed less people, or had better tools in their emotional/psychological toolbox to deal with whatever was going on with them inside... I don't want the same mistakes repeated, if avoiding them could save even one more person.

I was really bothered by “ children are so cruel” .. some just are. But majority learn bully, abusive, mean behaviors that make them who they are as children and that isn’t their fault. “Children are so cruel “ we as humans are not necessarily inherently bad, it is mostly taught. When you started talking about him cutting up his victims in pieces and leaving them around NY freaked me out. I live it CA now but in the 80's I lived in Brooklyn, NY. I remember one time going to my grandmother's house and there being a large police presence a block away from where she lived. I heard someone say that they found garbage bags with human parts in them. I was in my early teens. I was so freaked out. I totally forgot about that until I heard it just now and all those freaky feelings just crept up again. Love your videos but this one just had me in knots. I believe this was the same killer. I think he is just NY's most prolific killer that has been caught. There has been a serial killer in NY for many many years, that dumps his bodies in Long Island. One theory behind this killer's ability to remain elusive is that he is in law enforcement.

A sad fact, but police in fact, do not take the death of a sex worker as seriously. They have no desperate family members calling everyday for updates, no worries neighbours asking for some new news on the case, and generally, no friends that feel safe enough approaching authorities to offer a character witness. The police feel less pressure to solve these cases. So they are pushed to the back while others get solved. My friends dad used to say his colleagues referred to them as ‘filler cases.’ Cases that would get looked over during break or some ‘down time.’

    • @doombuggy123
      @doombuggy123 Před 2 lety +8

Ok, but tell that to Olivia Benson. Just kidding, I know law & order has glamorized police work and their effectiveness. But anyway, most SWers that work the street are victims of sex trafficking. Not in the “Taken”-Liam-Neeson-kidnapped-in-a-foreign-country-by-a-massive-network-of-human-trafficking-going-on kind of way, but more like the Cyntoia Brown/being groomed as a young teen by an older guy and eventually being pimped out kind of way. For that reason and because of everything you listed, most of these girls do not get reported as a missing person. The average lifespan of a sex trafficked SWer is about ~25. And even when their family is looking for them they’re hit with “she probably just ran away” or “she’s technically an adult now and we can’t make her come home”, etc.
It’s so gross that their cases are taken less seriously. Like they already have experienced so much trauma and now they’ve been victimized again and you still won’t do a damn thing to protect these girls and women??? Homicide is homicide, it’s gross to call it a “filler case” just because it’s so common. That’s probably why we have so many active serial killers that we never catch. There are so many fundamental institutions that need to change in order for these crimes to stop happening. One would be to legalize SW so that SWers can work in safe, secure buildings with body guards or some kind of security and not have to work the street. That doesn’t really solve the underlying problem of sex trafficking, but at least victims wouldn’t be dying out on the street or going to jail for being a victim.

Exactly. There was school shooting in my town a few weeks ago cause the kid was bullied. Doesn't make it ok but I definitely think if the bullying was stopped the shooting wouldn't have happened

@@chillipepperfiend1657 Yes absolutely. I was bullied in grade school & who got sent to the office or had detention for (supposedly having an additude) when I wasn't even literally looking at anyone. I saw a Documentary on bullies and I was cringing bcuz the principal called in the parents of the kid getting bullied, not the bullies. It's truly handled wrong. I think they should ask or put them in therapy (bullies). I 100% agree with you my friend. So sorry for the school shooting in your town 💔🤦‍♀️

I've seen quite a few killers talk very matter of factly about their crimes as if it were completely normal. The one that sticks out is Richard Kuklinski. Fascinating interviews to watch.

Out of all of the true crime youtubers I’ve watched, you are by far the most compassionate and respectful towards the victims. I feel like too many people talk about these despicable crimes as if they couldn’t care less about the people who suffered through them. Making jokes and being so flippant comes off as so disrespectful and that’s why you’re my new fave!

I don’t like to make light of this case... but as an over-40 viewer wondered how I was familiar with the name but not the case... before realising Elaine on Seinfeld had a boyfriend who shared the name Joel Rifkin, and she talked him into a legal name change.

@@mihaelamaya6941 in my experience adults usually say "good, that will teach them to toughen up" or even start the verbal abuse themselves. They rarely intervene, and most times adults at home don't even know what happens to their kid/ what their kid is doing to others at school.
Kids tend to follow so if you, as an authority figure, single out someone in the group as different, they will start to bully that person, even if they didn't have an interest of doing that before

hi Danielle, i was doing some research for A level criminology and found a case about Silje Redergard, its a case from Norway, and i think its so interesting because of the similarities between this case and James Bulger, but the different treatment of the killers- i think it would be an interesting case to cover

    Hi Danielle.
I've subscribed to your channel and appreciate the meticulous manner in which you approach each case. I enjoy watching your videos and what I learn from each one.
I wanted to comment on the subject of "bullying".
You mentioned that this particular person was bullied by his peers for a significant number of his formidable young life and due to the lack of support at home from his father, this may have contributed to his behavior and choices later in his life.
I do agree that when you have no one to protect you and when your back is constantly against the wall, it is easy to retreat into your own world, doing your best to appear "invisible". It wears on you, and the idea of "normalcy" and having a life free from tribulation starts to become like "Alice" on the other side of the "Looking Glass"; as if "normal" is what other people have and you are only watching from a distance, through a haze that is your wretched existence.
I can tell you from personal experience that bullying is indeed a terrible thing to deal with when the school does nothing to prevent it. It is especially difficult when you, yourself are not equipped to fight back against those who target you.
I, myself, dealt with bullying of a sexual nature, a rumor that was started by a popular boy, about me, when I was barely 13 years old. This was prior to starting the 7th grade. It was back in the 1980’s when "sexual deviance" was not tolerated and looked upon with disgust, if not morbid fascination. This rumor was complete with a catchy nickname that followed me from 7th grade until I graduated from High School.
When I was told by my friends, at 13 years old, what was being said about me, and that this rumor involved me doing things to myself with foreign objects (forgive me, I'm not sure if the exact terminology is allowed on CZcams), ie. "Ma#&*@bation",
I was compelled to ask: "What is that? What does that word mean?" When it all happened, I was too young to understand the meaning of what I was accused of doing.
    I had barely reached puberty.
I hadn't even approached sexuality and was, at 13, being accused of being a sexual deviant.
At that age, I just wanted a normal life, normal dates, the process of courtship, marriage, kids, a house, the whole deal...but for me, by high school, I was popular in the worst way. Known at other schools, not for grades or sports, but because of an unfounded sexually deviant rumor that some stupid kid started because he thought it was funny. Those kids, at other schools, didn't even know me, they just knew the nickname, the story behind it, and, of course, were compelled to believe it without question.
I am absolutely not defending this man. I, unlike him, had the support I needed at home to "weather the storm".
I had parents who taught me to be strong and live through the turmoil telling me: "these people are just a phase of your life and one day will be gone. You'll never have to see them again".
But good parents or bad, good upbringing or rotten homelife, dealing with bullying has a lot to do with the personality characteristics of the person themselves. I, unlike Joel, saw a future beyond school; knew there was something waiting for me after all the torture was over.
I truly believe that regardless of what you were born into, it's within the person themselves to decide what to do with the hand they've been dealt and how they choose to handle the world around them from that point forward.
I cannot tell you the abuse I suffered did not have lasting effects on the choices I made beyond High School, because it did. I spent years comparing myself to the people who abused me, as if my station in life had to match theirs, or better. I tried hard to make a label for myself, become something, anything to erase that girl I was, that name they called me for years...
But the most significant thing that separates me from someone like Joel is the profound lesson I learned from years of cruelty at the hands of my peers.
And that is this: To NEVER treat ANYONE the way they treated me, and to ALWAYS show compassion to humanity whenever possible. Because there is simply not enough of it.
Thank you for you videos Danielle. And thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be heard.
