Yeah, Univox wasn't the only brand that got them though. I think numerous Japanese guitars from the 70's into the 80s could be found with those humbuckers. Probably a specific factory produced them and used them in lots of different guitars.

Salutations Austin! In case someone wasn’t paying close attention, the “Explorer” has a 3x3 set of tuning machines that are designed for a standard Les Paul or SG guitar instead of 6 inline tuning machines, so only three (3) of them will work properly. That guitar needs a lot of work altogether, just to play properly. I hope whoever picked it up is able to make the proper modifications to get it to work properly, since they very likely paid way too much for it. With the proper modifications and repairs, it could eventually be a functional guitar, and it seems to have a decent case. The Les Paul also needs some work, but it is not nearly as bad as the “Explorer”. Thank you for sharing this with us all! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸
I've got a picture of Jimmy Page from the '95 tour and it looks like the Les Paul he is playing has a kahler. It r Definitely has two output jacks. That's clear.
Nice archeology lesson , not bad looking project guitars , too bad those trems were put on thems ( at least the LP ) , I almost scored a vintage Fender Esquire many years ago that was taken apart and looking pretty rough but I was'nt as guitarded back then ...shucks ! Thanks Trogly !
I'll bet that Les Paul bounces around in that case. I've got one guitar that has a stereo jack besides a mono jack it's a F200. I also has it's own tuner and controls for levels. That explorer kind of looks like one of those kit guitars or maybe a Drifter knockoff. Don't know on the Drifter version of Explorers but I've known of a few people to have had a Stratocaster Drifter knockoff and they would swear by them. If you could ever find a Strat style Drifter I'd love to see a review on it.
Hey Austin, I found some fret polishing stuff I wanted from your sponsor sweet water but they don’t ship to England or even international!!?? Shame though coz I can’t get them anywhere else!???!!🤯😳😞
Hey Austin . Kudos again for all your videos . I usually view them 22 hours after the fact . Winding down after another nightshift (in Australia) . Something looked odd (to me) , regarding the tuners . I have never played any guitar shaped like that , but wouldn't GIBSON have just put their 6 tuners 'in a line " ? If they did what they did just to be 'different to Fender' , I would say they stuffed up big time . Cheers mate 👍
That looks nothing like an Ibanez 70's era LP case, just to be clear. They are black with metal trim, or the cheaper/later version is black exterior. I have a half dozen of them here and have collected since I was 17 (42 now).
Or you could have the flight case... I have one of those too, but they're pretty rare and usually were only optioned with the professional series like the Randy Scruggs models.
@@haywoodjablowme699 Got a Burnside Blade a couple years ago, it's ok but the 5 way switch is going bad. Thankfully it was only $47. I'm actually surprised it's set neck and has a carved arched top.

Did YOU watch the video? There wasn’t any Les Paul’s made in 1960 to 1968 (if I remember correctly) because of Les Paul’s divorce with Mary Ford. So no, there aren’t any “65” les Paul’s
“Les Paul” was on the SG design until early 63, then dropped for the SG label. Les sued Gibson to have his name removed from the new design. Not only because of the divorce, but Les didn’t really have a hand in designing the SG model as he had in the original! In 67, Gibson noticed that guitar players such as Eric Clapton were using the old bursts and guessing they talked Les into licensing his name again for a new run of the original design of the LP for 68.

The neck humbucker in the "Gibson" Explorer looks a lot like the kind you found in certain Japanese copies in the 70s and 80s.

Alameda makes guitars with 2 bridges like that. They stay in tune fine.

The "Explorer" looked like a Hamer Standard, headstock and all...but the craftsmanship didn't. Maybe an early Hamer Standard import?
I wondered if it might be an Arbor copy
@@fredmerrill4002 That came to mind too, but I only remember seeing bolt on necks on those.
Ahh true, you're right!
Long neck tenon makes that unlikely.
Also the Hamer headstock is shorter & thicker to avoid lawsuits.
