The Pilbara Regiment main aim, apart from the obvious, defence, is to watch out for illegal migration; people entering by boat, which is very common and illegal fishermen mainly from nearby Indonesia.

Worth a look at the other two regional surveillance units - Norforce at czcams.com/video/zp05TnPIuKA/video.html and 51 battalion FNQR at czcams.com/video/2U9rouKldsE/video.html - each is unique.

Ha ha. Ive worked with the Pilbara Regiment (not as a member of the regiment). The Pilbara Regiment are reservists and are good blokes - although in my time they were mostly aboriginals.
This looks like a recruiting advertisement. Its not a good time at all. Most of the time its harsh and its hot out there. When its not, its usually wet and horrible. Its also remote like most people cant imagine. Id say its one of the better experiences as a reservist - because lets face it, the army generally treats reservists like shit - because the regiment has a bit more of an operational role and you get to do stuff that would require a reservist from most other units to do a short-term regular army rotation.

Mate the Reserves were the best years of my life until a 6m fall from a ladder at home ended life as I knew it.

@@zalired8925 Im sorry to hear about your fall, although I am disabled as well (bad parachute landing - and other injuries). I know lots of blokes had a great time in the reserves, but its not all enjoying the views and playing sports, like this video suggests.

@@tileux Only if there's a recruitment video to be made. A bad landing can do some shocking damage from the jarring alone. Cheers mate.

Australia has a huge problem with illegal boats from Indonesia - particularly fishing and people smuggling - and Sri Lanka too! The criminal captains will usually take a short prison sentence rather than pay a fine and they are fed and housed, for free, by Australians which is unfair! The Boat People are not genuine refugees, and are no longer welcome in Australia (we have waiting lists for genuine refugees), anyone who can pay $5-10k for a dangerous boat trip can pay for a visa application! Australia financially and emotionally supports all our neighbours, unconditionally, illegal trade helps nobody! The information gathered is critical! 👍
