      @@hideogaming4553 You can say that about Florida baseball in general. Look at the Rays. They had October baseball at home and still couldn't even sell half their tickets. They had homefield advantage throughout the first round and still couldn't even get 20k fans to show up to a single playoff game coming off a 99-win season. That's compared to other states who have teams selling well over 30k tickets to regular season games. The problem is Florida has too many transplants from other states who care more about watching their favorite team in meaningless Spring Training games than they do watching a Florida team in games that actually matter. They like living in Florida but too many of them grew up rooting for another team and that's likely never going to change.

Marlins fans still didn't show up last year and they haven't shown up this year either. When fans of any team won't show up during or even immediately after playoff seasons why would the owner invest more money into the team? The lack of attendance even during playoff seasons proves that there aren't *enough* Marlins or Rays fans and Florida as a whole isn't a viable MLB state.

    Regarding Samson's comment on every player becoming a free agent every year and why the MLBPA doesn't want that (even though it sounds good for them)...
    This came up in 1976, and Marvin Miller's opinion is if every player becomes a free agent, it will actually lower salaries for mid-level players due to a glut of supply. The strategy he laid out is to have fewer free agents that pull massive contracts because of the limited supply, which sets the market rates for arbitration, giving mid-level players healthy pay raises, which further increases the market, making it so free agents get even larger contracts.
    6 years of service time until free agency, combined with 3-4 years of arbitration was the healthy balance to hold back supply of free agents enough to drive salaries up.
    Also, as far as it goes for fans, having every player be a free agent every year would be horrible in terms of being able to cheer for a star year after year. Most fans would not enjoy this. As far as Samson needing a casual fan outsider to give him a north star in terms of public opinion, players constantly changing teams every year falls into that category of things casual fans would hate as they wouldn't even know who the players are for their team.

The title here should be on the description of the main show. The thumbnail should include something about the episode insetad of listing the names of the guests/hosts. No one is going to click on that and it says nothing on what the show is going to cover that day. Draw people to the long form content, then when you see spikes of engagement, clip those as highlights. A lot of great content and potential here but no one is seeing it. Why *did* the Marlins void their team option to keep Schumacher? All that option did was give the Marlins leverage. I get they don't plan to keep him but why not just decline the option at the end of the season? Why go through the trouble of voiding it now if they don't have to? Did Schumacher agree to take a lower salary or pay cut for this season in exchange for them voiding it now or something? That's the only thing I can come up with but that has never been reported as far as I know. Outside of that what could possibly be in it for the Marlins to void their team option so far in advance?

      The new Marlins PBO didn't hire Schumaker. They may want to move on with their own choice after this season, but saw no reason to replace him right away. They may be interested in him staying on, they may not...

    • @dorothygale1104
      @dorothygale1104 Před měsícem +2

      When a team has an option, they can void it or announce they aren’t going to exercise the option any time they want because it is their option. Schumaker didn’t have to agree to anything got the Malins to void the option because he had no control over what the Marlins do with the option.Void the option is nothing mote than not exercising the option and the Marlins can make that decision any time they want and they don’t have to wait to the end of the season to announce they are not exercising (voiding) the option because the option is totally under the team’s control. Samson hinted at a possible reason for voiding the contract (actually he said he would fire the manager) and that is due to comments that were bot in line with team management’s trade and rebuilding. Most teams would just fire the manager if they felt he was not in line with management (at least publicly), but maybe they don’t want to pay a new manager to step in for the rest of the season???? At least the manager knows where he stands regarding his contract and he can plan knowing he win’t be back next year for sure.

    • @matthew01234
      @matthew01234 Před měsícem +1

      @@dorothygale1104 I know they *can* void the option whenever they want but I just don't get how it benefits them to do it this early. I mean... What if the Marlins end up playing much better than we all expect the rest of the season and it's enough to make some other team become willing to trade for him. Now they can't trade him because they voided the option. I'm not saying that will happen because I assume it's not. The thing is that's only an assumption though. I just don't get the idea of closing doors or burning bridges (aka voiding *team* options) before you have too. You never see this happen with a player. Teams always wait to see how a player performs as long as possible before they void a team option unless they are getting rid of that players right away to clear a roster spot. As you pointed out the Marlins aren't getting rid Schumacher this year though. Team options are *always* a good thing for the team. What do the Marlins have to gain by voiding it this early? What do they have to lose by waiting until the end of the season if they are going to let him manage the team that long anyway?

    • @matthew01234
      @matthew01234 Před měsícem

      @@positively_broad_st3780 I posted a response to someone else above but if you read that this is sort of an extension of that reply. I think manager contracts aren't always disclosed like player contracts are. So the only thing I can come up with is maybe the team option for Schumacher also came with some sort of buyout like often happens with players. Maybe he decided he didn't want to stay a Marlin and wanted to be a free agent at the end of the year and maybe the Marlins decided they didn't want to keep him after this year but also didn't want to pay another manager on top of what they pay Schumacher. I think all of those things are likely in fact. So maybe the Marlins said, "Since you don't want to be here next year anyway we will make you a deal. We will guarantee that you will become a 2025 free agent *right now* if you guarantee us we don't have to pay you a 2025 buyout *right now* " or something along those lines. Since we don't always get to know every specific detail of front office and managerial contracts I'm thinking their has to be at least some kind of potential monetary benefit going to the Marlins for them to guarantee Schumacher 2025 free agency this early in the season no matter how he and the team perform the rest of the way. There's a good chance we never find out though since he's a manager. I'm still dying to know the specifics of the Atlanta Braves record breaking 8-year extension for their GM Alex Anthopolous. At 8 years long it has to be the largest and most expensive GM contract of all time. That happened months ago and they still haven't released the specifics of that contract either.

Public is already supporting the team with season pass purchases, reg ticket sales, overpriced concessions, and team jersey/merchandises. That part is already understood…because that’s how a fan can support their team.

      AJ is ALWAYS a little much, it his personality. He does have some baseball knowledge, so it is the price to pay. YMMV
