  • Alvie Kirk stands on a site that has been a place of worship for many centuries. The location, overlooking Loch Alvie, has a tranquil quality and it is easy to understand why the site would be chosen as a place of worship. There has been a chapel here since 1380, and before that the site is said to have connections to a St Drostan.
The church featured in this video was built in 1798 upon the site of the chapel and also upon a mass grave of 150 bodies that were laid out in a neat "head to head" array. The mass grave was not discovered until 1880 when the stone floors of the church were lifted during renovation work.
