These post Zeppelin collaborations with top artists that Page did, offers a tantalising glimpse into alternate versions of a band that Jimmy was destined to create after The Yardbirds. It could have been any one of a number of superb singers like Rogers, Terry Reid , David Coverdale or whoever. Doesn’t matter what the band was called, or who was in it along with Page, it would’ve been hugely successful. Jimmy had a vision I think , which could have been expressed in any number of ways and gone down several different routes.

I think Page does things just to make people wonder, in a good way I mean. I read an article once where he said he didn't know scales yet I doubt if there was a scale he DIDN'T know.Watch him play for 5 minutes is enough to realize he does. I also read that he "couldn't" do barre chords, yet I have seen him do them often including here. I sometimes wonder if he forgets that he knows damn near everything worth knowing? Brilliant!
Actually page never do full barrè chords, he does them or with the tumb on the E or he does a powerchord without the full barrè. Nothing to weird for a mostly self taught blues based guitarist. A lot of blues /rock guitarists of the same era have the same "deficit"
I read that article. He was dripping with sarcasm. This was when EVH had just hit the scene, and the musical press was tripping all over themselves as if speed of play were the sole criterion defining a great guitarist. He was prickly in this interview. I love Page. His legacy has much greater breadth and depth than EVH's, and I really do appreciate and respect what EVH brought to music
