When WNBA was launched out of the 8 teams most of them were named around thier NBA team like Houston Comets, Sacramento Monarchs, Orlando Miracle, LA Sparks & Chatlotte Sting.
Ive been watching WNBA way back when they were on LIFETIME and 27 years later theyre entering a new era around Caitlin Clark & Angel Reese

Nothing stupid about it at all, they're obviously just saying the fans in those cities would have a built in fandom and a sort of familiarity with the team, They exist off the NBA anyway, now not getting that is pretty stupid.

I mean, I definitely see the argument for having their own names, and creating their own identity. But this argument isn't crazy. If they shared a name, it would probably come with some subconscious fandom.

I don't know the finances...but IF the WNBA is losing money, than I think making the teams like Lady Lakers would be a good idea to bring more eyes to the sport and maybe more seats filled in the arenas....IF the WNBA is break even/ profitable or even losing a little...than I would think it would be best to stay "separate" with the names.

The bell curve is a curve. Why am I saying this? Because it gets wider as it goes down. Why am I saying this? Because its better to take a risk that you may have an unpopular view than to retreat behind views that are known to be inside the bell curve. And by the way. You might be surprised to know that you're in an echo chamber and the bell curve isnt where you think it is. Again. Its better to take a risk if you arent sure it is going to be unpopular but you also know its not automatically scripted as popular speech
      Some might disagree.

  • @jesterchesterfield2374

What does two analyst opinion have to do with the nba supporting the wnba every single year. Without the nba, the wnba would not exist, but Rick is trying to say that the nba doesn’t support the wnba. Just because of these two analyst opinion on opening. Pathetic
