  • Out with the old, in with the new. The fender support panel is critical to get fit SPOT ON as it dictates the gaps between the cowl, the door, the fender and the rocker panel. This is where it all comes together.

    Wow! That fender support panel setup was some serious 356 surgery. The Porsche restoration requires a lot of peeling back to make a quality connection. It’s also surprising that the replacement panel was only 70% there. Lots of adjustments required to get it to fit right. I appreciate your commitment to get it right! No meat loafing at Greg’s Garage.

      LOL! Thanks Tom! This is really where the car starts to come together. The whole cabin connects to the front of the car with this panel.

    Building a car like that takes time. Love the way you meticulously and patiently work out all the details. Not afraid to zip pieces away, but not too much... Nice work! Time to get those skis waxed 😁😁

      I think if this was a VW, I'd already have the metal work done! Since its a 356, I'm trying to make this as good as I can possibly make it! And yes... The skis are ready to GO! We may head up to the mountain next weekend.

      That panel is way more complex than it appears! Thank you for the kind words Seth.

    Nice work Greg, good things take time for sure. Cant believe the snow. My sister lives in Colorado, moved there from New Zealand about 20 years ago. I recall the big chill and dump of 2011? 2012? I was up in Breckenridge at the time. Best boarding of my life...and I didnt manage to break any bones. Great place.

      @GregsGarage  Před 8 měsíci

      I believe you get a fair amount of snow in NZ!!! I have skied with a ton of kiwis over the years. We do get TONS of snow here. If you've ever back, phone me up. I spend as much time in the snow as I can. Breck is pretty great, but just a few miles up the road is my favorite - Copper Mountain... You'd love it!!!

      Next time I visit my sis I certainly will do Greg. Yeah Copper is awesome, only been there once but it was great fun. Is that the highest ski field? Got the sense I was way high up there, even some altitude sickness issues ha ha. We get some decent snow falls in south Island NZ. It is a bit more extreme here with crazy access roads and all fields are in the Alpine zone above the tree line. Mt Hutt Canterbury was my mountain of choice but it is very basic compared to Breck and Vale of course. @@GregsGarage

      @GregsGarage  Před 8 měsíci

      @@elams1894 I think Breck is the highest, but copper isn't far off. Breck has a lift that drops off just below 13,000 ft. The air is pretty thin up there.

      Thanks Russel! The door damage is actually a good thing. I am going to re-skin the bottom. It needed that, but I was in denial. Now it's on the list!!!

    Very impressive. That is more a kit than a part. Maybe you pay for the shaping at the center of the panel and they give you the rest

    I’m watching the video right now but I didn’t see when you welded the rocker panels on, something that interested me as I watched your videos. I’m also working on my 59 356A and well I don’t think I have as much rust as yours, but I do have to replace the floor both sides mostly the passenger side. Let me know if you have a video of the rocker panels, maybe I missed it. Thanks BTW you’re doing a great job

    • @GregsGarage
      @GregsGarage  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The rockers are not welded on yet. There will be a video in the next few weeks showing that process.

    • @GregsGarage
      @GregsGarage  Před 8 měsíci

      Agreed. When I did the Ghia, I always thought about the panels looking like the right shape, but they never were direct replacements... The Porsche stuff has been closer, but they all still need work to fit.
