Wish I had never sold it. I bought one while in the USAF in 1968 for $150.00. Put new breaks in the front and cylinders at the wheels. And drove it 50 miles per day back and forth to the Air Base. Put Gas in the tank and oil and filter every 3,000 miles and rotated the tires. Best car I have ever owned.

That is a sweet car hope you still own it 6 year's later. I owned my 1947chevy coupe stylemaster for 10 year's I had many offers from people if I wanted to sell it. I even had many people wanted to take a picture of them in front of it when sitting out side. Just don't see very many of them no more.

Powerglides of that genre had brake bands instead of clutch disks. Easily adjustable on the outside of the Transmission case. Chock all wheels or put the nose against a barrier, start car and put in drive, crawl under and remove the same type of knock-off cover you'd find on front wheel hubs, insert a ring wrench on a lock nut and tighten in a set screw with a screwdriver until the car at idle just wants to tug forward...voila you've done your bit as much as you can do if there's any remaining friction material on the bands. They are not conducive to holding in lo until revs build then shifting to drive....they actually are prone to band breakage when you do that. They're designed to be slush/soft shift and that's the way they should be driven. Gently!

Cut to coils out of the front, 4" blocks in the back and heat the leaf springs, split manifold with a straight pipe on one side. THAT'S WHEN YOU GOT IT

Love it my favorite model fleetline

  • @tonycolca2241

Power glides had a 3.55 rear end 216 stick shift had a 4.11 so the powerglide will comfortably do 60 to 65.

This model of Powerglide in fact didn't have a hydraulic shift body and therefore had to be shifted manually between Lo and Hi. However, they were not designed to be driven that way. The assumption was the torque converter would give enough torque multiplication and for the traffic of the time, it did. Shifting caused damaged and there is an obvious slip in one shift. Powerglide went fully automatic the next year. Also, listen to that engine howl on the freeway. Driving 65 in a splash oiler Chevy for long will give a lot of grief. These cars were designed for 50 mph.

Hand shifting those was unnecessary and hard on them! They started out slow but under normal conditions

IINM the '50 and '51 DeLuxes were very similar except for the chrome trim. Did the radio change on the '51?

    Nice Fleetline.

  • @gilbertchavez2819

Even in powerglide mode your still shifting from L low gear to D every so often is that way of driving better fur the engine n transmission or then to let the gears shift automatically ?

Very nice car is it sold? I own a 1947chevy coupe stylemaster. I always like the 1951-52 because the back quarter panel's come out further than the 1950.
