I have one. Had it over 5 years and finding it hard to replace. Stage 1 since new. Don’t really need anymore. As video mentions just enough to let you drive it flat out everywhere without getting in too much trouble. 👍
@@koldwolf standard exhaust is fine, when you decat it and put a new system on it’s unbearable
Good note on the engine recall. I think any hatches with 400bhp really need to not be called hot hatches and instead hyper hatches or something because it's just not the same category.
Owned my ST3 mp215 from new since 2016, approaching 100k miles, only issues I've ever had are, the boost solenoid went bad, it kept snapping the stock springs (replaced with eibach, no more snapping) and a worn lower control arm rear bush, replaced with poly bushed units. oh and both illuminated sill plates have stopped working and the paint is notoriously pants, chips so easily.
Great car honestly, considering getting something a bit bigger, but if I can wangle it, ill be keeping the fist, as I know selling it would be a huge mistake!
Oh forgot to mention the best thing about this car, its got basically none of the new fangled driver assistance aids beyond hill start assist, for me you can keep your collision avoidance systems and speed limit sign recognition crap, just more stuff to go wrong, which it will!
You hit the nail on the head ref: this cars performance! Approx 200-220 BHP is enough 95% of the time on our UK roads and the handling (slightly nervous ride aside) is really really good. I think you are spot on with your other points too. I have owned one for 3 years now and preferred it's handling to my MK3.5 Focus. A short shifter and roll restrictor engine mount are great cheap additions to consider also. The thing I love most however is no effing stop/start button. The MK8 FiST is also very good.
I can take full advantage of any uk road with a lightweight car under 200 hp, it’s more fun too, you can really play with the car more when it’s not too rapid in acceleration.
I bough my ST from 2016 few months ago I'm the second owner, same cooler as the car you reviewed and I simply love my ST.
My car it's all stock, no mods and I'll keep it like that.
My Fiesta ST is easily the best car I've ever owned. Ok, not the fastest, at least not in a straight line, I've owned a 180sx and a soarer both of which with several hundred more horsepower than a stock ST. There's something about this car that makes you want to chuck it round corners and see how well it can grip hold of the road and as you say you can do this without worrying about losing your license. The suspension is stiff but not bad on long journeys. The seats are incredible, and for a 1.6 turbo it's really economical which as of recent events isn't unwelcome! Brilliant car, for the road I think there isn't much better. The 'hyperhatch' cars don't interest me, because there's always going to be someone with more power, but the Fiesta doesn't try and compete with supercars and pretend to be something it's not. Best hot hatch ever!
@@bongodave13 is that 36 around town? In sixth gear on a motorway run it should do more than that, I get 40 on a run in my 2.0 ST 150.
@@richardburns5925 I would say combined. On the freeway, I get 32-34 mpg US, which would be close to 40 in the UK. I tend to go pretty fast.
@@bongodave13 I get 40mpg at 65 to late 60s, over 70 and it guzzles fuel, only 5 speed so the revs go up over 70.
Nice review , I love mine , owned it 7 years now from new and hard to let it go. This model on a backroad is hard to beat
It’s scary that new hatches are now rivalling super cars of yesteryear. Still a fan of these mk7’s good insight thanks.
This was the most fun car I’ve ever owned. I miss it dearly. Great review 👍
Found a low mile 2019 (last year available in the US) almost two months ago and I'm in love. I just wish they sold the two door here, it looks so much sleeker
Fellow Yank here. I sure would like the 3 door, too. It just looks way sportier.
Gotta love a wee ST ❤️
I have a mk7 Collins stage 2 plus, running 240 bhp with mountune springs, short shifter, put a cpe engine mount on, which makes this car stiffer, better cornering and a lot less torque steer, wouldn't change it for a mk 8.
I have owned mine for over 3 years eith zero issues.. after owning many 80s/90s fords including RS models this was was modern replacement. I really enjoy driving the fiesta its a great little car that exceeded my expectations..
I dont have 20-30k to spend on a focus so this made sense. I akso agree re the power - on pot holed roads with 20mph limits and busy traffic - i can't see the point in 300/400 bhp - you can't realistically use it.
2017 ST3. A real sweet spot. Full stop. Wife has had one from new. A gem.
Great review! 😁 Thanks man! Thoughts of buying one living in Glasgow?
Best video I've seen in a long old time. Very well done sir. It's all well and good telling us how good it is but when you can also make sure to tell us of possible problems that is absolutely excellent
It’s a great car. Exceptional on B roads. I’m looking to go stage one puma take it up to 235bhp. Great video though
I recently done a stage 1 on mine , I would advise you to upgrade the intercooler with the stage one as after a couple of hard runs stock intercooler will suffer from heat soak and your gains diminish unless you let the intercooler cool off before each subsequent run.
Like your video st Fiesta i've had for 7 years I just fitted a new can't belt time And the new time in belt and Water pump.my care has done 33000 miles.
I am descendant of the Douglas clan.
I'm a 6'4 Scotsman. A big lad born and raised in the promised land of America.
This car is a complete blast to drive. Hope to purchase one in next few years
Great video
I’ve just literally brought this car from hilton garage lol what’s it like to drive and is it mapped then?
Im going from a MK8 ST back to a MK7. …8 just spins its wheels …7 was the sweet spot
The 8 has more torque and so requires more throttle management but maybe the lsd that comes with the performance pack would make it a different animal.
Is that Camelon Main Street in falkirk in this video when the type R drives up the road ?
I keep coming back to this car as a great driver option for all the reasons mentioned. Is it viable in 2024? How much mileage is acceptable? If not this, then what other car today gives this kind of driver satisfaction? Thanks for the great video!
Same as mine, has that one been slightly lowered?
So 15 16 17 year st was reliable then ?
You know when people do a clickbait title like this…it turns out the car is awesome lol.
It’s super popular for a reason, amazing handling nice solid hot hatch for reasonable cash, look nice and have good spec and features too, all round good motor and daily for most peoples purposes.
You are a talented narrator.
Really nicely done man.
I’m surprised that the head gasket didn’t blow during your filming content for upload. Has an actual fix for the head gasket problem been found or is the 1.6 just prone to warping?
I don't think they are known for head gasket issues - it was more the recall for the coolant hose upgrade on earlier models.
I have a 2013 with 75k and it's never had a head gasket nor does it need one.
ST7 or Civic Type R FN2? That is the question as Shakespeare once said...I think. ST7 is way easier to modify stupidly but which one handles best?
I’ve owned both. Civic feels a bit more alert but I prefer the ride and handling of the Fiesta. Also feels quicker more of the time
I have to say i love this car, but stock power isn't really enough, many may disagree but the fact the car kinda doesn't really feel like doing anything above 5000rpm and in 3rd gear is like actually slow, kinda disappointed me, but now with a hybrid turbo, a tune and some other bits pushing about 360bhp its lovely, it may not be so balanced anymore, instead that balance of power and cornering is now put in your hands, makes it more challenging to drive but i like it a lot, and it's real quick now, only the stock brakes are really starting to get not so happy now, but could recommend, get some proper tires first though
With my FiST it sometimes happens that shifting with higher RPM (4-5k) goes a bit difficult.. what could that be?
You sound surprised by having the adjustability of lift off oversteer like its a new thing. I guess you have never driven a 205 or 106 GTI? That is largely what made them so great to drive... and now Ford have gone with the exact same handling setup.
When I drove a mk7 ST for the first time, I instantly fell in love with it, it went and handled like slightly larger, heavier and more powerful 106 GTI... which I have had a few of in my life... Its like its spiritual successor and so I had to have one.
I think he meant in relation to modern i.e. much heavier cars, must modern cars have NO steering feel and little adjustability to the chassis performance.
I've got one and can honestly say the handling is great but the power is not. Remap them though and they really do get much better. Stage 2 about 250 brake and you can smoke 99 percent of other stuff on UK roads
I bet Rob, 250 is quite a bit of power for such a wee car! But as you say the handling is terrific. I must agree.
Looking at getting one, only thing is prices at the moment. Coming in around 10-11k you reckon it’s still worth it?
@@jonathantaylor3750 2013 2014 around 50 to 62k miles u think it's worth it?

i just bought the exact same car as you are reviewing!
@@danieldunne3193 haha looking at getting one next week, you had any issue with yours?
I’m I imagining things here, these were 6-7k 3 years ago and now they are 10k? I’ll stick with my 1k Mini Cooper s for a bit longer while I save up another 9 grand 😳
Do you think a jcw would be a better hot hatch?
I'd need to drive one to really say Eoghan! I've never had the pleasure...
Fiesta ST is unmatched in sensory stimulation. Not the fastest but definitely the most driver's car if you're into wee wheelbase and engines.
A good driver in a fiesta st will keep with anything on a twisty uk road and without being dangerous a top car future classic
What's the difference in features between st 2 and st 3
I think cruise control and parking sensors, you would have to check Google
Cruise control, keyless entry, automatic lights, wipers, folding wing mirrors
@@legendlee9 is it the keyless entry ones that are easier to steal? I have an st1 the poor man’s version lol
@@RoundholesinsquarepegsI have a St1 also. Yes, the ones with keyless entry are much easier to get stolen and are those that thieves mainly target.
Power fold mirrors and cruise control can be installed easily onto the ST2 👍🏽but you’ll need Forscan to get them operational
Drive shaft seals
I thought you were speaking a different language in the first 10 secs
U drive a lowerd one man. Look that wheel gab
£6000/£7000? I'd like to know where

@@ScottishCarClan Yeah it's in good condition got a couple of optional extras. Pretty standard price for them now though it seems. Ones up for sale for less seem to have issues one way or another.
@@ScottishCarClan Thanks. And considering Stage 1 CP remap at some point and maybe things like engine mount etc. but I don't think I'll go overboard. But we shall see 😂
I own one and it's outdated 👍even with a stage 1.
Only down side to these cars is theft. So much so in some cases you just can't own one in some areas. These thieves don't care or realise how much damage it really does to an area and how safe people feel owning nice things.
It is a real shame... there are precautions you can take but you are right, its a shame we have to.
Eh. 5/6 grand? . These are 13/14k on Arnold Clark to finance 😮💨😩
