- This is the first video in a series about selling #vintage on the website Ruby Lane. I've had a vintage shop there since July 2021 when the pricing structure changed. I love it!!
Here is the basic lowdown of Ruby Lane. What it is? What can you sell there? and How much does it cost??
I forgot to mention in the video to add your questions and comments and I will try to address them in the next video!

Hi Shannon Had no idea of the changes; never even thought of Ruby Lane due to the factors you mentioned but definitely going to check this out before I go forward with renting a booth Thank You
Awesome!
Thank you for the great video. Looks like Ruby Lane will be a good fit for all the vintage items that I don't want to sell on eBay. Really enjoying your content and appreciate the quality of information.
Thank you!
Thank you! 🙂 Will consider Ruby Lane as an alternate to Thrilling.

Hey Ms. Pish ;-)
Thank you for the great video providing the overview of RL. After my mother passed, I have many many vintage items from about the 60's to 90's. My mother had very good taste and money to purchase things over the years. So there was no way I will be giving this stuff to the Goodwill. I have given may items to family members and am looking for a platform to sell them to a good home. I am not looking to be a permanent shop, but only temporary in order to sell my items. Etsy seemed like overkill and even RL may be a heavy lift(?). On the other hand, Craigslist users only like the word 'free.' What might be the best and easiest platform to start on? Thank you again for the video and will be watching the next one. Michael.
Hello, thanks for watching! You could also consider eBay. Many do well selling vintage items there and it probably has the biggest audience. Another option is Mercari- it is pretty simple and they just changed things to have no selling fees (fees are passed on to the buyer).
Looks great! I won't sign up for A paypal account unfortunately 🧐 thanks for sharing
I started on ebay in 1997 now I want to try ruby lane.
You have lots of experience!!
I sell on ebay, etsy, and poshmark. I really hate etsy's search engine--searches turn up mostly things that have no relevance to my search terms. Also the 10-photo limit is a major pain, especially when you're allowed so many more photos on other platforms. Listing is also more time consuming--categories are not intuitive, etc. I could go on. But I'm still there...
It’s definitely my least favorite!
Do you cross post the things you have on Ruby Lane?
I currently do not because there’s no software that will do it for me. I wanted to experiment with RL also to see how well it did as a vintage platform.
Well done! Can one sell new, current fine jewelry, or does jewelry need to be vintage? Thank you!
I believe jewelry needs to be vintage
@@pishposhreselling Thanks!
I was wrong! But there are limitations- can be contemporary but needs to be listed for $100+.
Go to Listing Requirements under Sell tab. 👍🏻
@@pishposhreselling thank you so much! I’ve had Covid now, so haven’t had a chance to look at the site very much.
Feel better!! @@carolheringer5513
Does Ruby Lane collect sales tax for you?
Yes - that is why they require you to have a PayPal business account.
Sorry , I just noticed this video now, do they require a credit card on file?
Yes I believe so because there are charges if you do not list 15 items in the month.
@@pishposhreselling thank you !!
What is the name of your Ebay store?
All my stores are down in the description - under the Linktree link. Thanks!
How much can I earn per month on average on RL ?
I can’t really answer that I’m sorry. Depends on too many factors. Your items, your consistency, your pricing. It’s a smaller venue than say, eBay so does take awhile to build up.
Hi Shannon!
My wife and I have been following your RL posts eagerly, like there may be hope. We've become very discouraged towards ebay and etsy. RL looks like the alternative. However, there are steps in the getting started that we are not sure about. For example, I think you said that to keep your shop active you have to produce 15 new listings per month! Do they reaize that that's impossible as an artist. She cannot, in any way, create 15 new listings in a month. A year mayby. Please advise, and where's the best place to ask such questions (we haven't started the process yet...).
THANKS!
Hello! Are you only selling original artwork? My experience with Ruby Lane is only with vintage. But the 15 item requirement is only to avoid paying the $25 maintenance fee. If you're okay with that, less than 15 items is fine.
Adding items regularly is beneficial on most selling sites to keep your shop visible. Have you done much with social media? It may be helpful to build a following and you can direct them to whatever selling site you are on.
Thank you so much for your prompt and in-depth response! We find your videos very informative and deciscion-worthy. Kim thought she heard there was a minimum price of $25 required on every listing. Is that true? I don't recall seeing that in the video. Keep up the excellent, earthy and profundity of your work!
No there are certain categories that do have a minimum price requirement. Like jewelry for instance - If I remember correctly...must be at least $10.
Thank you so much for the feedback!!
Kim says: Great! Thanks so much for your fast reply and keep the great videos coming! Larry says: we are going to do this! See you soon!
Supplement with purchased items is an option.
Thank you!
