it is definitely a big job to bring a steam locomotive back to life again and you feel so proud when she moves again under her own steam

Takes a bit more than a lick o' paint to restore an engine! Interesting to see that this segment was actually filmed.

Could you imagine the health and safety lot’s reaction if they saw you jump off a still moving engine like that, today! 😂😂

Some guys were using those rivet guns all day....doesnt bear thinking about what toll that takes on your whole body.

I think this would be from a live edition of Blue Peter broadcast on Monday 7th January 1985, although in the BP archive the film is described as 'Matlock 80080 Loco'. Also on that edition were a Space City model, the totalisers and appeal news, an interview with ice skater and ballerina Katherine Healey who then performed 'Don Quixote', something described as 'Sylvia Gardiner Elvis Model' and a repeat of Simon performing as Elvis on a 1981 edition of the show. 'Matlock 80080 Loco' was apparently filmed on the 11th and 12th December 1984.

Yup. I don't know exactly the date of the TV transmission which was recorded on the videotape, and then decades later sent to me in the post by a stranger as it featured my train. Please be kind.
