    This movie had Dan Abnett on the point of its writing team. The Ultramarines aren't a problem. I just wish that scenes like this had replaced Black Legion Astartes with human/mutant cultists. It would've been more trouble to animate, I fully respect that, but it would've been vastly more impressive for a small squad of Ultramarines to be holding their ground against thousands of slavering hordes of the Ruinous Powers.
    It certainly could contain members of the Black Legion, but I remember the glory days of the Lost and Damned, where a 20 to 1 ratio of cultists to Space Marines was a high estimate for the Astarte composition of a random Chaos warband. Space Marines, loyalist or traitor, are cheapened when they're represented in bulk, but they're also rather cheapened when there's nobody but them around to gauge casualties.

    Action a little better than I expected based on other 40K film attempts, but wow, contemporary presentations of them don't ever seem to capture the sound of their voices up to par. They should be deep, grating, extremely intimidating and cold, in the way they were originally heard in the 80's; I think that would give them more impact on screen (the main point being, they are often hundreds of years old with their vocal chords worn from centuries of use and postponed aging. coupled with vox amplifiers and other implants). Also, I don't think an Ultramarine would ever dare make a snarky back-talk remark towards the phrase, "praise the emperor." It wouldn't matter what part of the lore, what chapter, what organization or world a 40K film took place in, if they just got the actual characterization correct along with a better sense of atmosphere and cosmic horror.

      This actually makes sense now if they added the scene after this.
      Their captain (who is now dead and possessed by a daemon) probably ordered the black legion soldiers to charge at them and are basically bait for the daemon-possessed captain to appear like he is saving them (when all he's doing is gaining their trust so it can infiltrate the ship)

    • @RafaelC015
      @RafaelC015 Před 8 lety +1

      RazgrizOne Chaos Space Marines of the Black Legion that are veterans of thousands of battles would not sacrifice themselves for a daemon that they owe no allegiance to. They themselves are seeking to become daemons and gain unlimited power, that is a little hard when they are self sacrificed for another daemon. You are referring to the attitude of cultists, not Chaos Space Marines.

    Agreed. To be perfectly honest I think this movie's only saving grace was the fact that they got Dan Abnett to write the screenplay. The overarching plot wasn't much and that it focused on the Ultramarines (considering the hate leveled at them after the last codex) meant that it needed someone of Dan's caliber to make it work. What I wouldn't mind seeing is the Eisenhorn trilogy or the Ravenor books made into movies. And possibly Ciaphas Cain into a tv series.

      @ImperialGuardsman1 Před 7 lety +1

      Well, crunch-wise they even don't have to be AP2, because well, crucnh-wise every weapon has some chance to punch through any infantry-grade or battlesuit armour. That means that as of 7-the edition even the humble laspistol had a chance of punching through terminator armour and dropping it's user dead. Don't actually have the latter chance now, since terminators are 2 wounds now, however now a sufficiently massed lasgun or bolter barrage could wreck a battle tank or even a titan.
      That's for crunch-wise.
      Fluff-wise armour tend to have weak spots that could be exploited. Par example, Imperial Guard's issue lasguns likely won't penetrate Chaos Space Marines' power armour's rigid bits (that made of reinforced armoured ceramite), however, lasgun shots on full power have enough penetration power to punch clean through the aforementioned power armour's joints and other weak spots, with, for example, shot to the neck joint capable for dropping the traitor Astartes dead instantly (the lasgun's beam penetrating the armour on the neck joint and then burning a hole through CSM's throat and spinal column).

      Why would I ever enjoy a movie of this quality? It wouldn't matter if it was star trek or star wars, it'd still be a miserable movie. I'd at least expect it to be on par with the Clone Wars 3D show, which swung between good and decent, but was of far greater quality. But still, that's a guilty indulgent of mine. If I wish to watch cinema and completely enjoy it, I bust out by Godfather collection or Looper.
      It is a shame though we're unlikely to get a W40K movie on par with say, Star Wars, even Attack of the Clones would be better than this. Hell the DOW movie intros had more detail than this, same with Space Marine.
      (Although that's if there is even actors alive who could play W40K characters, it might have to be CGI simply because Ron Perlman is the only actor I can think of who looks like one.)

    There's a bit of propellant at the back, the rest if I remember the schematics right was about half explosive charge and the rest a very dense material + extra touch sharp tip stuff for penetrating properties. So that the shell can explode inside.
    The armour is pretty strong, but it's also designed to retain mobility. Bolters are some of the strongest handheld firearms available to adeptes astartes, hence these results.

      Like fluff wise, they are the coolest, game wise, that's all a matter of how you play. But here's the crappy part, if you were to make a movie, like released in theaters and stuff, who else would the main character(s) be. The Ultramarines are sorta the embodiment of a space marine without the extra need for fluff, which is why they were the chapter in the Space Marine shooter. Enough people could watch this movie without raging about the fluff needed to get it going. However, it could work if an obligatory back-story scene was made. I have often thought about which chapter would be best suited for wold-wide film distribution and unfortunately the list is quite limited, because most people will not be die-hard 40k fans, so it would have to go with the Ultramarines or some successor chapter with no fluff attached to them.
