  • There is no language for the grief a parent experiences when they are losing their child to dementia bit by bit over months, years or even decades.
    What do you call the loss you feel when your child is sitting in your lap, but they no longer have the ability to play, to eat, to walk or to talk? When they no longer know who you are?
    This is just one of the challenges of childhood dementia. All children with dementia die from their disease, half by the age of 10 and 70% by the age of 18. But before they die, families grieve for the many losses, for what childhood dementia has stolen away.
    This video features Noah and the voice of his mum, Jane. We are very, very sad to share that Noah died when was aged 8.
    Please consider supporting Childhood Dementia Initiative this end of financial year to bring to light the challenges no one should have to face. Donate here:

    Childhood Dementia Initiative works to:
    1. Transform research and increase research activity. This includes driving a shift away from researching just one childhood dementia disorder at a time to researching multiple disorders concurrently and sharing expensive infrastructure between research projects to speed up progress);
    2. Improve care and quality of life for children with dementia. This includes amplifying family voices about what they need and engaging with health providers and professionals to build understanding and improved support for families who report it's difficult to get the care they really need;
    3. Advocate and build awareness so that childhood dementia becomes a health priority. The fact that you're watching this video is a step forward. Nothing will change if no one knows about childhood dementia.
