When my son was a little boy, I planted 4 citrus trees. At a family lunch, a relative mentioned 'the traditional method' of watering lemon trees & as a little boy he found it all very amusing, but never mentioned it again. Some years later, out in the back yard I pondered out loud about why our lemon tree was nearly 3 times the size of the other 3 sad little citrus trees that it had been bought, planted & grown with. My son informed me that he'd been nipping outside regularly to test 'the traditional method' on the lemon tree ever since he was little & it works.

When you say “collect it” do you mean use daily whatever the family makes? Or can you actually store urine for that long or any length of time? • @zanaros2606

@@annalisa6135 Storing/aging urine results in greatly reduced nitrogen due to microbes and stuff breaking it down, transforming it into a fertilizer with around 1-1-1 NPK ratio.

Last year someone who shall remain nameless weed eated my beautiful clematis plant! I was devastated! I had read about using urine as a fertilizer and decided to try it. I used a 10 to 1 ratio of 10 parts water to one part urine. I watered the clematis first, then I used a 1 gallon container with the 10 to 1 mixture. I did this once a week for 3 weeks. After a little more than a month the clematis was as big as it was before! I plan on using it more this year because I refuse to pay the fertilizer prices that are out there now!

The younger brother urinated on his brothers sunflower to stop it growing. It grew so big it ended up in the local newspaper. My dad (the neighbor) had 10 foot conifers as a fence and it stood taller than the conifers.

My partner and I keep a bucket of wood pellets, the kind used in hamster cages etc, next to our toilets and we layer our pee with the pellets... add some pellets, pee on them, add more pellets. The pellets absorb the pee, there's no odor and the carbon in the pellets helps balance out the nitrogen. We use it as top dressing and compost ingredients.

We’re taking this a step further with a composting toilet system for our new cabin. There will be no more wasting water by urinating or dedicating in it. With so many people around the world without access to fresh, pure water, I began to think it kind of unethical to internationally polite fresh water this way. We have begun experimenting with urinating in garden paths and tree guilds with excellent results. Thanks so much for addressing this topic. Making a difference in one’s own little corner of the world the with intentional changes, one effects the entire world for better. Thanks for effecting change for good.

I planted everything from seeds I started indoors. Over the winter I added ash from our fireplace to all the beds. All the veg looks amazing compared to last year. We are in upper midwest USA zone 4. It's use as a bleaching agent is mentioned in Samuel Pepys diaries in the 17th century. Hope you and Granddad are fit and healthy now. Have a good growing season.

Good advice. I save all cold water from hot taps and shower and transfer it into the cistern before flushing. I also have stashes of my urine around the garden to add to the watering can. Hope alls going well with you. Regards

You should do a video from planting the seed to harvesting and cooking the final product. It will take at least 6 months to make that one episode, but I think it is perfect. You may want to mix up some time lapse footage into it. I think that is a worthy video for you to make. Spring time is approaching, so I think this is the best time to start making it. That episode should be finished by October.

Do you have access to my private notes or something? This is exactly what I've been building up to for years. I'm not ready to start the cooking channel yet as I'm still developing Grandads Kitchen but I'm almost there...

A great video, thanks. I got told many years ago about peeing on the plants was good, but not the science of it and how to make it work properly. I use urine on my leaf mould and the worms love it.

I can see why someone would freak out if it is put directly on a food product. It is after all human bodily fluids. You generally don’t want that on your food, regardless of how much stuff ends up on your food from major food producers that is actually worse, most people generally don’t like to hear about it.
If someone does freak out, tell them what the big food companies use as fertilizer or maybe something else natural that is grosser. The deer sometimes attack my cucumbers. So technically there could’ve been an animal slobbering on them before picking them. I usually wash my fruit before eating.

I have read that male urine is less acidic than female urine, owing to our structure, this acidity assists in preventing UTIs.
So, I encourage my hubby to pee on the compost pile and am extremely grateful that it works out this way, as I’m missing the hose attachment for effortless dispensing.😉
