    I have just started learning but you have taught me a lot. I didn’t know anything about guitars and I bought a Squire for $100 on Facebook marketplace, it sounds awful so I bought a carbon fiber Nova Go non electric, it sounds ok from what little I know. I figure I will wait until I play better and know more before I buy try to buy electric again. Maybe I will try to work on the Squire using some of your tips and buy new strings for it. I really enjoy your videos thanks!

    I think those saddles lock into place when intonation is set with a provided Allen key so they won’t move,it’s supposed to improve tuning stability,it’s a good idea and works. 9:29

  • @RobTackettCovers
    @RobTackettCovers Před 8 měsíci +1

    Wow, man, paused at 3:22 to comment...that thing looks spectacular...and it appears to have maybe a floating Wilkenson trem on it, too...which is one of my favorite floating tremolos ever...I used to have this Carvin DC400 (one of a few I wished I'd never parted with), and it had a Wilkenson on it...and with the locking tuners on it, once you put a fresh set of strings on it and got them good and stretched out, it would stay in tune, even with extensive trem use...back to watching...editing in after getting to your dislike on that particular Wilkenson bridge...mine had allen head screws to hold them in place, and I could loosen them on the one I had and nudge them one way or another with a little effort to intonate it without loosening the strings...but that one, I don't know...looks like it would be hard to do without loosening the strings, as you say...

    Microphonic passive pickups can easily be fixed by wax potting them. The active pickups though are already sealed in epoxy, so you cannot wax pot them; but they SHOULDN'T be microphonic because of the epoxy. Like you, I am not a fan of active pickups so I don't have a lot of experience with them; but until your video, I didn't think they could even be microphonic.
    Regarding the frets... I think those ball end frets look nice but I've never seen an instance of them installed straight. I see the same thing on this guitar. The fret ends aren't lined up along the edge of the fretboard. At first I thought they were quite an upgrade on these cheaper guitars, but now I think that they are easy enough to make apart from the guitar, and easy enough to install, that it saves the manufacturer money, which is why you see them so much. A talented luthier can do a much better job the old fashioned way, but it is a lot more expensive because of the labor involved. I'd rather have normal frets that aren't done as well, because I can finish the fret job myself. They do prevent sharp, sprouted fret ends though, which is a real turn off to less educated or less capable guitar buyers.

    That is one beautiful guitar!
    That said, those parts - tuning machines, bridge and pickups, are as too often you say, "straight trash".
    But yeah, for the $, it's a killer deal. If I had an extra $300 to spare, it'd be sitting under my leftover christmas tree, just in time for the New Years party!
    One of my guitars came with EMG's, but it was a yard sale find and a killer deal complete with an Orange amplifier, so I wasn't going to complain. Instead, I sold them both on Reverb and made a few $. Active pickups just aren't going to work for me since I mostly play blues and rock (70's and 80's), but I'd totally swap out for some decent humbuckers and call it a great deal, however I'm definitely one of those guys with a bad back who plays standing up, so a 10-12+lb guitar isn't going to work for me. My limit is 9lb, but I prefer them to be under 8, otherwise it's one or two songs, and I'm swapping out for another axe.
    Thanks again for an entertaining and informative video. Hope to see you on the live show this Saturday!
    P. S. I've been messaging you on email about buying one of your kits, but I would like to have it complete with a set of those Catbuckers.. If you can do that deal, I'll drop the hammer on the body and neck today.
    Love, peace and greenbacks from N. Idaho! ✌️🤘🔊🎶🎸

    The tempest guitars are so close to excellence. My biggest hang up is the frets aren’t centered in the neck😖 and the tuners suck. I don’t recall my pickups being microphonic tho. I’ll jack with it again and check. LEO JAYMZ PLEASE FIX THE FRETS. They need to go to the end of the fretboard and be centered!

    I have a technical question Scar. Ive had my Charvel ProMod with a Gotoh 510 tremolo for 5 years. Ive used D'addario NY/XL 9-42 for the entire time of ownership. I recently wanted to try Paradigm Ernie Ball 9-42 strings. As soon as i started tuning i was already happier with them. They were clearly brighter, more resonant and better feeling. But when i got to the D string however,..... something was bad off. I ended up having to back the D saddle all the way to the last thread on the screw. And its still flat on the intonation. Ive tried loosening it and untwisting it. Ive tried tweecking the neck relief. Im all outta ideas. Any knowledge you can share would be helpful. I love the strings.
    P.S. It would intonate perfectly prior to brand change. And all the guages are identical in both sets.
